  • Hey gents/ladies/folks since I was gone so long if there was word I missed it, are the Loose Cannons getting a continuance/etc? Spoilers, word of god on a schedule, a fate, hints, etc?

Seperately, were the cannons all strictly Dyna-hosts only, or were they ALSO mutants?

  • I believe that the Cannons are a victim of Bek's infamously flighty muse.

As for also being mutants... Evan might be, but I doubt the rest are.

  • Yes, I AM working on the next Loose Cannons story. Sadly, I'm slogging through a slow bit on that. That's how it goes sometimes- you glare at a screen for weeks, and then when the dam breaks, you're churning out chapters at a time. At least I know where I'm going with this part. The hard part is making the bit that's gnawing at me WORK!

  • I'd make snarky remarks about how many stories Bek has to complete, but my own work list involves more then a few hundred thousand words of stories that are only, at best, three quarters done.

  • I did not mean to set off the "stop bugging me about it already" bomb, I apologize. I had no idea if word had come down or not, due to my long absence, and I couldn't find an existing thread on the topic.

    Thank you!

  • that wasnt the "stop bugging me about it" bomb"

that was the "trying to get the muse to cooperate" explanation

honestly Im not much better. none of my stories make it out of the burn pile until after they ate completed by the canon THERE IS NO CANON CABAL

  • Is this where I chime in about the XX+ stories and parts of stories in some stage of contemplation and completion amongst the canon authors? That I've documented at least... among the Whateley and Library categories... not to mention the others they work on outside of this site...

and, yes... I DO remove the stories as they're published... these are ACTIVE/PLANNED stories... AND not just the plot for the future ideas of which there are easily three times as many (or more).

Whoops, sorry my mistake! Forgot to add the smiley ;)

But to put it in perspective, our current schedule of three posts a week has seven weeks worth of completed stories in the pipeline, and there is about another months worth of stories already in various stages of review by the authors, not to mention the stories we haven't even shown each other yet!

  • Honestly I'm surprised the pace has held so far, as I expected the situation to be back to 2 per week by now. But it seems that the authors are going strong and almost finishing stories as swiftly as they're made public.

    Awesome effort, authors. :cheer:

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • The return of authors (especially JG), combined with hitting year two releasing a flood of waiting works and Gen 2 hitting their stride are all doing their part.

How long it lasts only time (and EE, and Elrod, and JG, and Bek, and Morpheus) can tell :)

  • I was actually checking out of curiosity just before I read this. Our queue is actually a couple stories LONGER than it was when we started the 3 a week schedule. Only a couple, but still, the conclave of muses behind the (there is no) canon cabal has just been relentless this year so far.

  • Never mind it's possible some canon authors who are still around but haven't published any tales for a while will be hit with a burst of inspiration in amongst the renewed burst of canon activity, or the (more remote?) chance of absent but contactable authors returning to the fold, or authors who've run out of inspiration for a particular character of theirs giving permission to others to write POV scenes (probably still acting in an advisory role for the character), or even some background characters stepping into the limelight - either with POV scenes or full stories (and with Imp giving us a taste of what kinds of things some staff members get up to in their personal lives, plus the occasional POV scene from Liz and Amelia, it's feasible more staff members will be shown in more depth).

(Gah, the amount of times I had to tweak the above to avoid writing "possible" for every scenario!)

I have to confess I find that schedule a bit strange. Not that I mind the two on Monday, but if you were doing three a week I would have thought a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, as many webcomics do, would make more sense.

Releasing requires an Admin (either Kristin or Warren) to schedule the releases, and babysit to make sure they work.

Since this means Kristin basically does the releases alone, and gets really busy with their job, our releases are scheduled around when Kristin will most be able to babysit them.

  • It has to do with Kristin's schedule, and when it's easiest for her to push the stories public.

Also, while the 3-a-week schedule is still going on, it's not necessarily permanent. (Our original discussion of the concept was actually guessing at about a month of bonus stories.)

  • Well, one last catching up later, I can only say that I hope that your muse is extremly talkative about the Loose Cannons, Bek (If someone has a better suggestion for a team name...). Or about Jadis, Silver Ghost and Vamp. I don't know if they're solvin their problems before arriving in front of Champion, but I bet their story will be a most juicy one, both here and inside the verse.

But as these guys are packing up for their roadtrip of doom, some speculation. I on't think I'm risking much by saying that Evan (eh, what name would he use when he's a she?) is a probability warper on top of everything else, but what about that MCO Agent Haime? Front for Doctor Blank or his business partner? And if if he's a real MCO agent, is he going with or against Swive (I bet the fallout for this guy will be cataclysmic)?

I'll also support Astrodragon's proposition of giving cookies and/or cupcakes for the authors. The idea of even more stories waiting than two monthes ago is a really nice one.

  • Okay, this is as good a place to announce this as any: the next Loose Cannons segment, after a LONG hiatus, has finally been finished. It's a LONG segment, and it's pretty dang chewy. It's being edited and fitted into the posting schedule, even as we type/read/ listen on a vocalizer.

Where are they headed? Well, as mentioned in the very last part of 'Perfect Storm', the next part's title is:

  • So having re-read Perfect Storm ahead of it moving on to Vegas, I've got a few things to muse and say, if you don't mind.

Starting with Part 1, I found myself curious as to the processes that the scientists used to force the proto-dynamorphs into the kids. I suspect (and they're nothing more than suspicions for me at this point) that the first stage of the two was somehow inducing MGC activation and manifestion in an extreme case of burnout. Only once it was triggered did they then add the proto-dynamorph to the subject - I think that the dynamorphs require access to that initial massive burst of regeneration to mature, or something else beyond my ken. Could also explain why so many of the kids got an Exemplar-like makeover, but little or no other powers thus far in evidence. Could be that they had their inherent mutant powers overloaded and burned away, leaving only the dynamorph contributions.

And before moving on to part 2, I was mildly surprised to see a name drop for Professor Reaper, which caught my eye this time around as he's no longer just a name for us readers.

Moving on to Part 2, I find myself reminded exactly why I really don't like the KoP, as I'm presented with the very same scene that first established my opinion on the organisation as a whole. Am I biased and is it possible that they're not all as bad as Swive's crew? Hell yeah. But I think in this case the bias is rather justified. Thus far at least.

It also gives me a kick when all the acronyms think that these kids are being lead by an expert due to their successes, knowing the reality that they're going in with nothing but a decent plan, a whole bunch of improvisation and a big helping of odds mangling.

Not too much for Part 3 to mention, other than that report early on that mentions the notable parents of some of the kids. Continuing with my assumption about them all being mutants, I'm curious now if there's any connection to the theory that gets thrown around a bit. Nimbus' plan, if I recall correctly? Or at least what Ayla observed during mingling. Probably also worth bringing up that the three mentioned (Evan, Rox and Chris) now qualify as "It's Complicated" regarding gender to one degree or another.

Finally for Part 4, I don't have much to muse on other than drawing comparisons between UNITY trying to induce PSI traits - along with what live subjects were seen - and how that might possibly be a little related to Generation 2 and two certain groups affiliated with Nazis... Could just be coincidence, or they might all share a common root.

Now for Vegas, where things can't possibly go horribly wrong! Did I say wrong? I meant right. :-p

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • One interesting point is that Evan appeared to have a minor odds-mangling trait even before being subjected to "the process."
That, together with their rather odd Dr. Pyg-derived two-step process, suggests that the villains cover story (that the kids were chosen because they were near manifestation) might not be a total lie.
Maybe they can't predict manifestation, but Dr. Pyg found some way to detect manifestation rather early, before the usual symptoms become noticeable. I mean, there's some evidence that not all manifestations are sudden and showy; if, say, Evan was having a slow and gradual ramping up of his odds-mangler power, that might be the reason he was caught -- it was already detectable with the right equipment, but still weak enough that he hadn't really noticed it.
Also, if this was Dr. Pyg's process... does that mean that Delta Spike is a Dyna-Host?

The gender-flipping that several of the Cannons went through might be a side effect of Dr. Pyg's tech, too -- one that the Dr. enhanced to get his hareem of bimbos. "Mr. Bland" removed the bimbo-creating enhancements but didn't go as far as spending any effort to avoid this occasional side-effect.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Given the way that Delta Spike interacts with known manifestations of Dynamorphs I'd guess that she is a Dynahost. In fact If I recall correctly it has been pointed out that she is a dynahost.
I hadn't thought about Even being an odds mangler before hand, but that does make sense in a way.

  • And the bad news don't exactly stop there for the Loose Cannons. With the way the mysterious 'benefactor' talks during the part 2, I have the sneaking suspiscion he culd be Nimbus, and that's definitely the sort of enemy the Loose Cannons don't need. And I think Haine could be related to him or at 'best' Prang, both of them would want to sway the authority towards an as lethal as possible reaction, so the LCs don't go to them and remain alone... and easier to capture.

Highly likely it's a yes, given that it's a Golden Gate Guardian Member, in San Francisco, etc...
