No, we changed that, remember?

We decided they were just going to kidnap half of the student body instead, turning them into super-powered half-mole slaves to bolster their army with in preparation for taking over the world.

Yes. By the way, the best Gen2 speculation is on Elrod finally coming clean about Locutus, the borg in his closet.

More probable is that AJG Consolidated is a large multinational, but seldom heard of outside investor circles as by then it'll largely be a holding company, with the companies / products it owns retaining their branding. All the 'traditional' cottages will have been extended, and will be connected to the tunnel network. Some of the above-ground teaching facilities may have been redesigned and/or extended. Among the more conventional subjects on the curriculum, the head of the art department will no doubt leave a lasting impression on her students, and on the walls may be a parody of Paramount's portrait (we know students have to pay it a visit, but what about staff?). Within Poe Cottage, "Kimba" may be a synonym for craziness, although of course no-one (other than Bella if she's still the House Parent) will have met the Kimbas themselves - their most prominent escapades may have passed into legend, and the details as recounted bearing little resemblance to reality.

I thought Invictus was a guy... The codename just feels masculine to me... All Roman and meaning 'Unconquerable'... Gender Bias-thing at work?
I totally missed her real name, "Tanya Wright". I was just scanning like: "Neomagus, Neomagus... There! Invictus!" and I guess "your mother's replacement" wasn't a big enough hint.
EDIT: So, Neo, is your Purple-Hair Girl Forum Pic supposed to be Invictus, like how Elrod and Astrodragon have what is obviously their characters as their profile pic? Well, yes, it makes sense to assume that it is, but it's not true for everyone, and I wouldn't want to assume.

I'm gonna bet 'No' or maybe 'Yes'? 'Cause that doesn't look like a "Luke Del Bosque" to me... But then again... You're "taking tropes and smashing them to teeny tiny bits… then smashing the bits into powder" so I'm gonna Subversions and Zig-zagged Tropes, so I'm not gonna make a stable bet, 'cause it could be that he... or she or whatever, so that might actually be "Luke Del Bosque"... and doesn't pick a girl's name for some reason... Or it is a girl, but has a constant illusion of a guy who registers as "Luke Del Bosque"...

No, no, no, that's not Nagrij's character, that's his muse. You know, the one that he's claimed has the biggest case of ADHD this side of the Punic Wars. I'm guessing the truth is finally coming out... or he preformed some forbidden muse ritual to keep her on task for more than 1 story.

Come to think of it, I never took Latin, but I do think that "-us is a male suffix, and the corresponding female suffix would be "-a"; therefore, the feminine form of "Invictus" is probably "Invicta." But I'm not really sure, I would have to find someone who really understands this stuff.
But, even if I'm correct, there might be a good in-story reason for that. Or maybe it will be an in-joke, with other characters constantly pointing this out to her on being introduced. I'll have to wait and see.

yahoo answers gives:
invicta
Roma invicta multas provincias habet = unvanquished Rome has many provinces. The Latin noun "Roma" is feminine and singular and "invicta" has to agree in gender and number with "Roma" and also be feminine and singular. The noun "Roma" is also in the nominative case, used here for the subject of the verb "habet" (has). So "invicta" is the feminine singular nominative form of "invictus".

Well, not that many, but some for sure. For starters, most Astérix fans... yeah, I know it's not that popular in the U.S., but there are a lot of Europeans at Whateley. Catholic clergy would sure notice. The better class of Romance-language teachers who bothered to learn a bit about Latin. A few biologists who spend way too much time thinking about how to name newly discovered species. Fans of the Rome TV series. Roman History buffs in general. Philip José Farmer fans who bothered to decypher the bilingual puns in his Aquila series. Whateley students who chose a poor student codename (case in point: Quickie) and are doing a lot of research to get the perfect adult codename.
My point being, none of these groups is huge, but when you add all of them together, you get maybe... 2% of the Whateley population at least? That's one in fifty; how long do you think you could go before running into one of them? There are enough of them to notice that there is something odd about the name that I think it would get pointed out pretty soon, I think.

However, she is also going to live a very long time, is very intelligent and has the very envied ability to be able to study multiple subjects 24/7. She may not be a gadgeteer... in the sense that she will never intuit in the traditional gadgeteer fashion some completely unique theory or application of science without the leadup progression to it... BUT, she may be uniquely positioned to be the next best thing. Collecting and studying the various theories of many different gadgeteers without the psychological limitations of needing to create on demand or being bound to a specialization. Sure, she may have to pay to use someone else's 'patents' but she may end up putting tech together and making advances on things that were originally intuited by a gadgeteer.

Considering that none of the stories yet released even take place near Japan, this "under-representation" is entirely justified, I feel.
Back to the subject of Gen 2 though, it's certainly interesting having a mix of protagonists from more varied places in the world, what with their potential to fill things in and flesh the wider world out a little more, in the eyes of us readers.

also consider two more things:
1 Japan has a culture where individuals are not only encouraged but expected to push themselves to the limit in the name of progress, be it technological, athletic, or economic progress. In WU I wouldn't be surprised if they went out of their way to make accomedations for most mutants such that they'd find means to excel at what they do.
2 the US and the majority of the western world (unlike say Japan) has one of the most historically judgmental religions/group of religions as the one with the greatest influence, and when you mix that with a large group of people who don't qualify that religion's definition/interpretation of "normal" then words like "unholy" and "unnatural" and "fiend" and "monster" get thrown around which perpetuates the initial fear and shock. add to that the fact the MCO managed to establish itself as a faux- government organization in the US complete with propaganda, and you get something that lasts longer than it has any right to

Toni bolted upright in her bed, a startled gasp coming from her mouth. "Nikki!" she called softly after she'd stilled her racing heart, pounding as if she'd just consumed an entire bowl of nothing but sugar.
"What?" the weary redheaded Sidhe girl called from her bed, barely half-awake and certainly resentful of being awakened in the middle of the night.
"I just had the most bizarre nightmare!" Toni said, her entire body trembling at the reality of the dream from which she'd so violently awakened.
"About what?" Fey mumbled, really not caring but trying to pretend to so that Toni would calm down and go back to the land of nod so that she, too, could resume her slumber.
"It was here - ten years from now," Toni said, rising and padding to sit on the edge of Nikki's bed, "It ... it was horrible! Everything ... it was changed, and there was this huge Mythos monstrosity going to destroy the school and then the world. And the kids that were the world's only hope - they were so ... strange - except for this cute blue girl in Poe..." She sniffled, convulsing a tiny bit as repressed fear sneaked to the surface while she was distracted with her nose. "And ... and ... they didn't call us to help!" Toni wailed aloud.
Nikki gave her roommate and best friend a very supportive hug, starting at how Toni was still trembling. It MUST have been a very disturbing dream. "Shhh," she cooed gently to Toni. "It was only a dream."

As the in universe saying goes "Its Whateley, stranger things have happened, this year." Granded that last qualifier may not apply on the first day.
School Year or Calendar Year, there works either way- though wouldn't it be "stranger things have happened in the last 2 weeks"? Though even that would be inaccurate- as it would imply things becoming more normal, maybe "the cumulative strangeness of the last week is stranger than this" allowing for strangeness growth.

Less than RL, though I'd figure, and it depends on what you define as poverty line. (is it significantly less than RL? Mm... I'll say this, I suspect in FIRST world nations, the number is less, more or less compared to their own baseline, it could also be that the 'poverty line' is lower, who knows.) If you define the number as "Those with the inability to aquire 'legally' food, water and basic shelter from elements" as poverty: A bit HIGHER in some areas, a bit lower in others, so eh. Japan isn't really xenophobic based on _skin/appearance_, by and large. (now if you're disfigured in some ways, historically not a good thing), it's xenophobic on culture (Best rule of thumb: Japanese don't like those who don't take their shoes off in their houses in Japan, same thing as "Wear a toga when in Rome, boys.."). Note who they _hated_ the most, and still to some degree do.
Ain't Europeans or Africans, that's for sure.
Too many people make the assumption: "Japanese are racist to all but perfect humans" instead of looking at their mythology and religious aspects, and thinking all that through. (or, hell, look at manga, and how Kitsune, Elves, various animal minis, etc,, etc are viewed. That tells you a lot, no?)
To be fair, I can't say that Japan WOULDN"T have some xenophobia vis a vis mutants, metahumans (SR), or other species, mind you. It'd _really_ depend on how it was presented to the Japanese people, and how the species behaved.
For Whateley, we're theorizing enough various aspects of the Japanese mythology is 'true' (for values OF true, anyways), so the concept of 'metahumanity' and "supernatural" (both types) beings existing isn't a 'shock' as much, plus when the first Japanese mutants showed up, they leaned more towards 'helpful and useful'.
Note: And then there was the Ryukyus...

And not just within the Academy - we've seen hints that the attitude towards mutants in NYC (at least, among certain demographics) may have changed from G1, although of course we won't know for sure unless/until we see the PoV of a resident / regular visitor.
Meanwhile, policy issues aside...
Chaka and Vox are still alive and well in G2, both having had a walk-on speaking cameo role in Road Ch. 1, as well as "an old friend" who Toni hadn't spoken to since leaving Whateley. (I wonder if their cameo is in any way related to Kristin's joke below EE's section in the G2 Announcement, or if we'll discover the significance of that in due course?)
Liz Carson's still Head (not entirely surprising!), while the Drow Collective are based in Karedonia and have been expanding their numbers (just as there are plenty of people wanting to sign up to be Animen, there are likely to be plenty of people wanting to sign up for Drowification).
Everyone's favourite (ha ha ha!) multi-billionaire family are still around - or at least, their company is.
"Grease-skin" sounds suspiciously as though a certain G1 oil manifestor's invention has gone commercial and is widely available.
Speculation: AJG Consolidated is still around, but it's a holding company, so outside investor circles has very little name recognition. It's subsidiary companies, on the other hand...

Imagine if you will a devise I'll call the pulsed emulsion launcher, also known as the splat gun. Something the size of a tommy gun except for the cartoonishly large bore and oversize drum. The thing projects pulses of whatever emulsion or slurry is in the drum but for some reason (hey, it's a devise) whipped cream, custard and mayonaise work best.
Is it just me or do I have too many good memories of Buggsy Malone?
Another creation might be the confectionary filament projector. This rifle sized devise has a barrel ending in a large number of small holes, like a pepper-box. It's a bit of a red herring of a clue -
On-duty, the lasses of Moonbase one wore silver lame cat-suits. But occasionally, off-duty or Earthside, you'd catch sight of one in a silver lame mini-dress.
Purple hair. Moonbase One. SID, SHADO.
UFO is the correct answer. If I had said purple hair and silver lame catsuits (or jumpsuits), you'd have gotten it immediately. That would have been too easy.
OK, I have never even heard of this show!
Oh well, I suppose we now know where ElrodW's purple hair fetish comes from.

Existing moon bases aren't a problem, there plenty of moon to go around.

I think you can find somewhere to place your secret moon base that's not in sight of another base -- particularly considering that the horizon is much closer than on Earth. And the base itself could be underground. The problem will be hiding during the building phase, and also to ensure that your spaceships are stealthy enough not to be noticed.

If the skirts are short enough, there is plenty of "moon" to go around.

Well that's why the chickens are so fat, they make their own grease. Rally the biggest problem is the guts and feathers, and the violent explosions. Which is why Jobe uses them more for guarding places then food, don't touch the chickens, don't startle the chickens and for gods sake don't try to steal the chickens.

the bonus with them is the two varieties of eggs... self-boiling and explosive. the trick is figuring-out which is which.

Yep, so they mostly feed them to the orc slaves. They can handle the explosions, unless the eggs are rotten. When a rotten egg is bitten into, the orcs know they're going to have mystery meatloaf for supper.
