No, but they can be pregnant by another Sidhe. It isn't common... Sidhe men and women ARE fertile... but sex resulting in offspring is... not as 'automatic' as it is with humans. As you might expect from a people who live lives measured in thousands of years.

Or it's some special quality of that Sidhe? Sidhe can't have human mutations, 'cause they're not human...

Sidhe don't have human mutations, but they do have the potential for a variety of powers that are similar to human mutations. Obviously, their natural connection to the Essence of the world which is the fundamental aspect of their individual Life Force makes them capable of working magick (without the human need to filter and 'tame' Essence for their use). Of course, there are dangers to this... which is why the Sidhe vary so much from individual to individual depending on the elemental forces they are attuned to. Sidhe also have an ability to develop psionic abilities... and most do, at some point in their long lives. They are often inherently stronger, faster, and more capable of enduring difficult tasks and bearing pain than humans. The Sidhe regular commune with the higher powers and are capable of bonding with and hosting them, though such arrangements are typically more formal than the mutant version, and result in specific exchanges in favors/abilities.

And while, technically, the existing power traits and ratings only apply to mutants because of what they 'mean' in universe... by this point, its sort of understood that the community can and will talk about Sidhe (and paranormals that are non-mutant in origin) in terms of how they would be rated if they were mutants. Somewhat necessary up until the point where we introduce some other means of measuring such things.

with Absinthe's entry into canon, it becomes a little more murky. Her ancestor did conceive a son with a (presumably) human father.

I held my infant son in my arm, feeling a mixture of joy, pride, and great sadness. I’d given birth to the boy a mere two days ago so he was still fresh to the world, completely innocent of the dangers that thrived here. With a sad smile, I bent over and kissed his ear, which was far too rounded for my preferences. Then again, it might be for the best that he took after his father so much. It would let him fit in with the humans a little more easily.

  • Abbies back story will probably be altered/retconned to fit into the canon format. So i wouldn't take too much from the fan fic version. We'll just have to see how Morp does it.

  • that's what the family legends say... doesn't mean its true :P

Seriously. During the Court era, there were ways to change a human's true nature to remake them as Sidhe... it was enormously difficult, because the complexity of the Sidhe nature was so much greater than human and all that energy (the Sidhe is made of Essence) has to come from somewhere. On the other hand, a Sidhe giving up their nature and becoming human was relatively simple. Of course, the Sidhe often had ways to move among the humans without being noticed... they typically did so in seemings... or a temporary change of shape. They wouldn't be able to cross-fertilize / reproduce in such a form, but it WAS how they would meet and come to know and respect members of the human population... or find love. And when people are in love... a little thing like enormously complex magick and giving up your original nature... is hardly going to stop you.

The only question at that point would be whether you would try to tweak your genetics to give your future family an advantage over the average people. And what would such gene variations do once they mixed into the general population a couple generations down the line?

  • And what are the inevitable consequences of that tampering?

How many of Absinthe's ancestors died due to inexplicable genetic anomalies and/or Cancers as the tampering kicked in hard?

Huh. ... Well, I was just more... fascinated, by the concept of such an unlikely thing as a new Sidhe becoming pregnant right after a bar brawl, presumably by a human father, due to its near-impossibility.

But, hey, you're armed with more info, so I'll have to reevaluate once you post something.

And official canon details only actually matter if the story is canon. So feel free to thump Malady with a hammer for making an issue of it. :)

  • The important parts changed as part of the power spike that exists during the manifesting period. That's when 'most' mutants change at a foundation level... the stuff that's 'deeper' than just biology. It's like the discussions about TG Fiction and how most transformations won't work they way they're depicted. Taking hormones as an adult might have result in breasts, some subtle changes to looks as a result of skin/subcutaneous fat distribution and such... but it won't make your hips wider (bone placement doesn't change), won't change your voice, etc... UNLESS it happens early in life that you undergo those basic growth cycles into adulthood under their influence. But even then, it won't happen quickly, and it won't change your sexual organs (although they will probably be very small) or genetics...

Even worse, if you were to be changed via a retro-virus that replaces all your male cells with female ones... you won't even benefit as much as you would from hormone treatments. Because you'd still have glands and organs producing male hormones and a fully formed body. For changes to occur, the body would have to be able to reject the old organs and tissue... and somehow survive the rejections long enough to either grow replacements or alter the existing ones in ways that the human body doesn't have a system to do. And, like with hormones, the adult body may replace cells regularly... but there's not a lot of difference between genetically male and female cells... its the larger picture organs, that only really form at one stage in your development, that would have to change for anything else to happen.

So, the critical thing medically and mutant mechanics wise to understand is that manifestation is not just a matter of establishing a new normal and then slowly (or even rapidly through regeneration) healing your way towards it. Manifestation is an enormous energy spike defining not only what the end result of your mutation is going to be, but generating a road map for your body to get their. Certain traits have to evolve and come into play before others, so that when those others occur, you can survive them. If things get out of order... or energy isn't available to complete something that protects you before the next stage goes into effect... that's when you get burnout problems. Like an energizer tapping into the earth's magnetic fields to channel lightning before their body develops a nervous system capable of bearing high voltage electrical loads. Many times, mutants who are in manifestation have working regeneration... but by the time they are fully manifested, they do not. This is part and partial of the core foundation having to evolve into place extremely rapidly to avoid stages where critical organs have to replace baseline ones... and if it doesn't happen quickly enough, you die. Because of the excessive demand on the regeneration that's available, it burns out the trait and the remainder of the mutation happens more slowly over time.

With adequate support and nutritional resources on hand at the moment of manifestation, it could be possible that 'every' mutant would end up with at least a moderate level of regeneration instead of it burning out in the process.

So... summary - no, Fey did become a Sidhe almost immediately. Her physical appearance from a Sidhe that looked like Nick to one that looks like Nikki... took some time. But as I said... for the Sidhe, manipulation of body for seemings is relatively easy. Even easier than it is for Shifters, because human body is more 'static' biologically than that of the Sidhe. Sidhe can change appearance even just as a result of the type of Essence they manipulate. Of course, if they do it unintentionally, they're obviously noobs. Real Sidhe mages would never show such a lack of discipline/control. ;)

    Hmm...

The modern Irish Éire evolved from the Old Irish word Ériu, which was the name of a Gaelic goddess. Ériu is generally believed to have been the matron goddess of Ireland, a goddess of sovereignty, or simply a goddess of the land.

  • Or what you get when you angle a camera to look up past a set of breasts.

You want to de-emphasis them? Have the camera looking straight on at the face at the same height.

  • camera controls in Second Life aren't the greatest, it's kind of difficult to position for a good shot.

  • Oh, I don't know. To me it looks like the developers had a very good idea of what shot they wanted.

  • I've gotten fairly good camming around in SL in the years I've been there. The trick (for me) is not to use the buttons on the HUD, but to use the combination of your mouse and keyboard. If I recall correctly, you use the same modifier keys you use while building to switch your camera between different movement modes (pan/zoom/rotate). Just click on the point you would like to use as the focus for adjusting your camera, hold down the appropriate key and move your mouse. You can also use background objects to position your camera where you want it.

  • Sigh.. so many joke I could make concerning a certain green sweater and two *knock kocks* there.

Oh Hi Rose by any other Bunny name.

As you have made yourself at home and have met many of the more umm indigenous life forms you have made quiet and impressions. Twice over. Now don't look at me like that. It's not nice to point two 45's my way no matter what angle they be facing. I'm widowed, single and ummm No not that desperate.

Now that I've made you and several others uncomfortable, *was that my intent? Well, yeah I guess with my wording and your picture which is worth thousands. I've never meet an Irish gal before, probably never will with the way I'm going. Of course I may meet a Kracken.

But seriously, Welcome and I'll hope to one day have the op eh tin itity ta read your story. Right after I get done reading umm I don't know over 2k of msgs, dozen of back stories and perhaps not get threatened by someone who promised to smack me with a fishy.. or was that feed me to the fishy. Um either way. Have fun with the other Babs Bunnies.

  • It takes a unique and special individual to get me totally lost, and that post just did a marvelous job of that.

after re-reading, now I get it. Firstly, I can't help it... my character is -VERY- loosely based after me. I'm not even Irish. I get my redheadedness via Germanic and Danish sources. Secondly, I am either gifted or cursed... depends on your point of view with being a short girl with a 36D bust. So my character reflects that as well.
Thirdly, you are safe. I have a wonderful guy that made the mistake of putting a ring on my finger 10 years ago, this Halloween.

I'm very prone to getting lost myself. I got lost in a circle once, took me like forever to get out. It was only 3 feet wide. But seriously, (which I'm generally not known for) I'm very happy for you and the other. I joke, well I think its joking, I'll have to check with my doctor again, but may you have many happy years. Just try to ignore the others.
