Question Imp 6 A Very Imp-ortant Date!
- Malady
-
They're bonding, aww!
Family...
Who's the new girl? Or is that old girl? Hmm...
I wonder if Danny has the MGC? Well, even if he does manifest, he'd likely die... 'Cause he's too old?
Imp vs. the IRS! lol.
Egging villains heroes and villains~! Fun!
The Hexagoner was a mage, IIRC, so his wills are magically binding?

Yea pretty much this and the Red Dot scene had me rolling.
Now imagine just some dude in a stuffy office building telling Imp that no she cannot take corporate deductions on ACME products despite proclaiming them as useful to her own small business of "Messing With Super Dorks LLC".

Below is a stream of conscious commentary I type up as I read the story. There will details from the story included in it. If you have not read the story yet and don't wish to have details of it spoiled, read no further.
Imp 6: A Very Imp-ortant Date Part 1 comments
And a Spider-Man reference as well, laughing this much and so earlier into the story."Remember, Bob Barker says to spay and neuter your pets..."
Imp Force.
Speedy Gonzales, classic. Tweety Bird impression and then Sylvester, it is like a cartoon hit parade. Overwhelm Tabby's sense of smell, clever, something you rarely see someone use against an opponent with an enhanced sense of smell.I laughed at that and blew her another raspberry. "If Saturday morning cartoons have taught me anything, it's that the mouse does." Then with a grin, I exclaimed, "Arriba! Arriba! Andale! Andale!," and took off even faster.
Frustrated or entertained, that is Imp in a nutshell.
Lily watched the match and is shocked her mom wants her team to go up against Imp, hehe, that would be fun to watch.Carson leaned over to Tabby, and in a conspiratorial tone that I was obviously meant to hear, she admitted, "After the first time I ran into the Imp, in a real world situation similar to this, I was tempted to chase her down and strangle her...and I might have...if I could have stopped laughing long enough to do it." "So, my secret plan worked," I commented.
Catnip problem, *tries to catch breath*, I would have done more than snickered. Aww, self-conscious over her GSD, hiding it underneath long sleeves and no revealing outfits. Business back home over the weekend, hehe, sneaky Imp.
Back at the Imp Lair, wish all planes made good time like that. Going to work as Candice Kade, darn, thought she came here to hook up with Ryan Chambers. An art gallery she hadn't robbed, very new in that case. Shelly Hamlin complimenting one of Candice's favorite pieces she did, licensed A Glorious Shadow for a few products, nice. Easy to pick apart someone else's work when you don't paint yourself, never assume before you learn who you are talking to.
And seeing Ryan at the art gallery dressed in a nice suit, fate has a strange way of bringing them together. Ah, dinner last week in Boston and scheduled another date for tomorrow, good, good. Ouch, Ryan can read the emotions that went into the Shadowed Soul piece well. *eyes bug out* Daniel Kade came looking for Candice Kade, thinking she is his sister. If she hadn't ran for it, he might have found out how right he is.
At Superbad drinking, talk about a lot of emotions, poor Imp. Why would Danny come looking for her after all these years, has me curious too. Oh boy, should have gone to Black Mask instead. Pink Piper, interesting power, too bad it has such a limitation or in New York she would be a major threat. Runs into Sunder and he knows about her being the art teacher at Whateley thanks to his son Render, figures some student would look her up through a parent.
And he is nice about her retiring from the 'business', even informs her a couple people have been looking for her. Whoa, looks like Imp has decided to take the direct approach and just go as Danny what he wants with her after all this time, unpredictable as always.
'Danny Boy', hehe, too bad she waited too long. Sneaky way to finally approach him, he might not recognize her and lead to a misunderstanding. Dang, Danny the complete opposite of Candice even before she manifested. *sigh* Saying she looks normal, almost seemed like he is trying to get a rise out of her. Called her a hideous freak and wish she'd never been born, yikes, no wonder she ran away from home. Great, he knows she is the Imp and wants her help as a supervillain.
Barnaby's, interesting place from the sound of it. Glasses and baseball cap, simple disguise for Ryan, hope it actually works. Chickenhawk or Superchicken, yeah, he got off easy alright. *eyes bug out* Her tail hurts like that when pulled, no wonder she is vindictive towards anyone who does so. Nice chat about artists, them having that shared interest is cute to watch. Wonder how long Imp can go before Ryan finds out she is Candice Kade.
Nice view and spot for someone with her powers, bet the sunset is incredible to watch from there. Pigeon flying by, guess it is an appropriate codename with his powers. Hitting him with an egg, wicked sense of humor. And gets Ryan to egg a villain, Silver Storm, hehe. Perfect spot to target any flying superhero or villain from. And Ryan's flown past here and never noticed how it would be the perfect spot for an ambush, scary.
Messing with Danny like that while hidden by her chameleon field, priceless. And he seems creeped out by her true appearance, ugh. Figures, caught in a bad situation and needs someone who knows how to deal with criminals and superheroes. And her bitterness bubbles to the surface, Danny should feel lucky she just doesn't storm off right then and there. Little **** trying to guilt her now, really starting to hate Danny.
*facepalms* Can't believe he took such a deal without knowing all it would entail, money laundering out of family art gallery, foolish at best. Stuck between an overzealous superhero who thinks he is behind the whole thing and the criminals who will kill him and his loved ones if he goes to the authorities, yikes. At least she figures out how to make this deal work for her, good to keep her biggest secret.
At the Black Mask and drinking already, already about to head back to Whateley in just a few hours. Muscle shows up and says some woman and Crash Test Dummy have been looking for her, that guy is a fool if he tries to get revenge on her for cutting his hand off and changing his codename. Hehe, sneaking past MCO checkpoint at the airport, with how they would treat here I would do it too.
A glowing red aura and tried an ambush attack on Imp, talk about a coward. Took his life from him, attacking with such viciousness, Crimson Kid murdered someone and got his just desserts, psycho coming for revenge now needs to be taken down. Blaming both deaths on Monster Max, mutant with GSD and a rager, and getting him executed in his place, ugh. Great, he is delusional as well, thinking he was a hero after what he did.
Ouch, trying to run and ditch CK and blindsided, guessing it is CTD and that isn't a gauntlet over his right hand. Trapped in an invisible force field in the shape of a hexagon, who is the woman working with CTD. Cut off her tail with an energy sword, CTD is a sick ****. And Jack Rabbit there as well, 5 against one, just great. Golden brooch shaped like a hexagon, should remember that clue but can't for some reason.
Imp Revenge Squad, good grief. Hexagoner 2.0, Imp didn't kill that idiot, the demon he summoned did when it didn't get its promised sacrifice. The blonde, just a guess, is the villainess who was involved with kidnapping Melissa and somehow has changed a lot. Huh, ruined her wedding day, destroyed her father, and humiliated her whole family, no idea who this blonde is. Heaven as her codename, still no idea.
Nice turnaround on the criminals and start of an escape. Smoke bombs, always a handy tool to have a lot of. Tricked by her chameleon field, she is able to avoid their notice and hide in an alley. IRS, wonder if those idiots even figured out what their group name spells out. Taking a dirty old parka from a homeless man to hide her appearance, hope she doesn't leave a blood trail for them to follow.
Going to Ryan's home to rest and recover, should have figured something would end up forcing her to go there sooner or later.
Yikes, can't wait for the next part of this story to find out how things go with Ryan, dealing with Danny's problem and with the IRS."Some bad old puddy tats," I muttered in response. At that moment, I felt safe in his arms, so I allow my eyes to close and darkness to descend.

Domo was talking about Heaven, the blonde with exemplar looks of the 5. Hexagoner 2.0 was a separate character in the story, one who is sounds like was his apprentice for a while. Who was wearing a red hood, if I were Imp I would nickname her Little Red Riding Hoodlum. Nah, too easy, she can probably do better than that.Malady wrote: ^ - And her becoming Hexagoner 2.0 is just random coincidence? Or is there some other explanation?

Her name is Heaven, which is the opposite of Hell, the home of devils... and imps. Maybe she's a relative Imp didn't even know she had.

Fiendish Five.
If I remember, Imp is from Buffalo, NY, and that is where the gallery is. A bit out of Chickenhawk's territory.
I wonder if he has gotten Mischief's shirt yet?
I'm guessing that Heaven is Barney's ex, but that everything was just fallout from Barney being outed. Imp isn't likely to go against a third party just because they know someone. Remember that even though Imp pranked all of Brandywine's team, she was only really vindictive against Polarstorm.
Don't Drick and Drive.

And here I was after reading this line, thinking, "No, Tabby, you really, really don't." Imp in a simulator, at her full potential? Equipped seriously? Ryan got to see a little bit of that before, and showing the spikes (and knowing her accuracy with eggs) on the rooftop nexus gave more insight to how professional Imp is compared to some other villains running around. If Imp really wanted people dead, they would be, she usually just maimed them and left. Then, as she went into the shower, she called out, “Sometime, we’re going to have to do a real match. A serious one.”
Then Crimson Kid and JerkAss show up! Litttle bit of foreshadowing with Tabby's line then?
CTD totally did it to himself, but the one that really gets me is Hexagoner. The guy is an asshole even in death, demanding his successor take care of his enemies for him. Let polygons be bygones...but noooo, can't even do that.
No clue who Heaven is, unless we're missing something obvious by it being Barney's fiancee, but I'm guessing Heaven's father is someone else who pulled her tail, many years ago. She's usually pretty good about remembering things and people.
Cute detail that Ryan and Imp are having a real date back where they first had their little fake date when Melissa was abducted.
Didn't Melissa say that her father is like an art insurer or claims adjuster or something more official (and boring) than art reseller? That's the reason he kept crossing with Imp, he was superhero protecting some of the same places that he was involved with out of costume, and Imp was stealing from. Buffalo is a bit out of the way for his superheroing, but it might not be if he also had something out of costume to do in the area.

It makes me sad that I can't be the first person to suggest this now since I was totally calling it that Heaven is Danny-Boy's daughter. It wouldn't be too surprising that after realising the connection, Daniel tried something stupid involving villains, it turned sour and has now been blaming his sister for all their ails.Or maaaaybe.... Her name is Heaven, which is the opposite of Hell, the home of devils... and imps. Maybe she's a relative Imp didn't even know she had.
One tends to wonder how Whateley Neutrality affects teachers though. CTD is in for a world of hurt even just from the Imp, but how does Carson react to having her teachers assaulted? We know from the first Imp story that if the tail is removed (her father tried to have a doctor remove it IIRC) it'll grow back, and she does have a business address that includes "the best hospital staff in the world" so the Imp will get better, but does anyone think she'll take this lying down?
I'd go so far as to suspect this could lead to the first murder on her rap sheet, to be honest.

Imp's certainly ended up in a sticky situation here. I'm looking forward to see how she deals with the IRS, though IMO CTD's death is a given. The other IRS members also stand to at least lose body parts or end up wishing they had.
If she does return to Whateley on schedule she'll certainly cause a stir when she checks into Doyle beaten half to death and missing her tail.
Does something like this (an attack on a Whateley teacher off campus by non-students) count as a Whateley violation to be dealt with by the Whateley PTA and Alumni associations or is Imp on her own? It would be interesting to see various faculty and staff members (Donner, Paulson, Songbird, Tabby, Sam Everheart, the Dragon Slayers, maybe the Stern Teacher of Justice) making an unofficial field trip, substituting their various uniforms and panoply for flat black, army boots and masks, to deliver the message that Whateley is not to be messed with. Joined by Ryan, in similar attire of course to remain anonymous.
As for Danny's problem, maybe the hapless hero covertly gets passed a file detailing an investigation of the gallery and its 'backers'. Who knows (Morpheus does).
Minor nit: There are some spelling mythtakes that spoil what you're trying to say. Look for 'Chickenhawn' and 'person who knew past'.
Keep the stories coming!

Which brings something to mind... regarding Heaven's identity. She might be related to one of Imp's enemies which have not been accounted for yet. Let me see...
We have Polarstorm. She might be his fiancée or something, and he had to postpone the wedding for being Nair'd? Wanting to kill Imp for it seems a bit too much, but if she was in bridezilla mode and/or something happened, like her father dying before the rescheduled wedding, it could flip her lid.
Then, we have that asshole... whatsisname... oh, Mauler. She might be related to him.
Now, the speculations about her being Danny-boy's daughter... possible. I mean, my first thought when Danny came looking for Imp was that one of his kids had manifested; since Imp is a mutant, the odds of Danny carrying the MGC in complete or almost-complete form are quite high.

Many, if not all, the authors past and present consistently display one trait, long term planning.Sir Lee wrote: My question is: for how long has Morpheus been planning this? I mean, Imp has been collecting enemies since her first story.
And oh yes, they love to taunt us about all the things we missed.
I'd expect Morpheus has been planning this almost from the first Imp story. Imp never kills her opponents, but she does them considerable harm or embarrassment.
The real question is...how long has the "IRS" gag part of it been planned?

In addition, she says Imp "destroyed my father". Not that she killed him. She "destroyed" him. Outside of kids' shows where they can't use the word "kill", to "destroy" a person is usually used figuratively to mean someone is broken down and brought low. That's exactly what Imp did to Williams when she dyed him purple.
Plus, if Heaven were his fiance that would mean Imp had wronged Heaven on two distinct occasions because her purple fiance purple would be an entirely separate entity from her destroyed father. If she were Williams' daughter, then him showing up at her wedding all purple would have been an extremely embarrassing event that would ruin her wedding day, but not necessarily the marriage, destroyed her father, and embarrass her family all in one.
I'm actually beginning to favor the theory that it's someone we haven't seen before. Someone pointed out this might be a But For Me It Was Tuesday trope. I'm thinking it's not only this, but a Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking trope. We've seen and heard about a lot of Imp's exploits. We've heard about her revenge on Crimson Kid in response to Monster Max. We've seen her foil Hexagon's plan, resulting in his death and the loss of Dummy's hand. We've seen her rescue Melissa from Jack Rabbit and cut off his foot. We've seen the whole Mauler incident. But what other caper have we famously heard about multiple times? The time she snuck into Bruce Goodkind's office and stole a bottle of whiskey. The Goodkinds are a close, reputable family concerned with appearances led by a proud man who takes slights seriously. What perfect comedy it would be if the one leading the crew of people whose lives were ruined because of Imp were actually an overreacting diva who's mad that she didn't have the exact brand of whiskey her daddy was going to bring to the wedding. It's a very Morpehus move. You heard it here first, folks, I'm calling it.

It does put it in position for Heaven to be Imp's niece, but that doesn't seem that likely because she hasn't completely ruined her brother's life, yet.
It could be something to do with the Kube job that Tabby grilled her about. The Black Maestro, "Captain Blowhard" and the owners of the vault were all ultimate victims of Imp's success there. It could be the vault's owners who had their reputation go down the toilet, but it doesn't seem like Heaven's wedding day would also be ruined from that.
edit: Oops. Heaven is an exemplar, so anyone's guess. The woman in her late twenties was Pink Piper.

Imp 6: A Very Imp-ortant Date Part 2 comments
Donna and Maria, and all these jokes about losing her tail, she is really upset about it to cover like this. Certain anniversary, ouch, don't tell me it is when Barney caused her to miscarry. Glinda and then Elvis, wonder if she could help in the drama department teaching being a stand-up comic. Finding Razor one of the most amusing kids in the school, hehe, wonder what would happen if they teamed up to prank someone.
Insulting her singing is one thing, but her puns fit her to a tea. Oh boy, trying to bluff Razor about what happened to her tail, he will find out one way or another. Ah, the required report of what happened to her when the IRS ambushed her. Paperwork, the bane of humanity.
Strong regeneration, regrowing her tail in about a day, if it were for the potential complications of that power it would be perfect. Investors like that, without any connections to a criminal organization or large crime family, wonder how dangerous they could be. The Asterisk, oh brother, now that is a silly superhero name. Wonder if that name is a reference to DC's The Question.
CTD, with access to an unknown number and type of gadgets, might be more dangerous than first suspected. Jack Rabbit, the most psychotic of the bunch imo, thinking he is a hero with what he does to innocents. Darn, CTD has his hand back and Jack Rabbit has his foot back, no justice. A messed up bunch of psychos and degenerates, figures she would get the Batman style of enemies but with powers.
Louis is always fun to see, such good interactions and such a good friend to Imp already. And their chats prove he is one of the few people who really understands her. Despite what she says in response. And ouch, Biblical reference/pun, that one hurt, I took 10 pun damage. Project annoying songs when they talk, bwahahaha, wonder which ones she uses. Ouch, not that one! Using that country song is just cruel.
Melissa, Alicia, and Monkeywrench, wonder what they could make as a group project. Fired a banana like a gun, darn it, trying to remember the name of the TV show that was used in but can't. Still Melissa slipped on the banana peel, she needs to be more aware of her environment. Pulling that skit and Imp not in the mood today, yeah, day she lost her kid. At least they noticed something was wrong with her, hope they don't push it though.
Skeleton dinosaur puppet with a towel wrapped around its head and Razor is talking to it, nice reference to Jeff Dunham's Achmed the dead terrorist. Bwahahaha! Hoarding the supplies and then blaming Achmed the Dead Dinosaur who is going to blow them all up, priceless.
Whoa, just how sharp is Razor's sense of smell to pick up something wrong with Imp using it."Silence," Dino said with the electronic voice, though he moved the puppet's mouth to show that it was supposed to be the one talking. "I chomp you!"
Awww, thinking someone broke Imp, so much so Louis shows up as several people are starting to worry about Imp. And yup, with what she said about Barney and skinning him alive if he comes after her today, it is because he caused her miscarriage alright. Dang, one of those times you wish you could hug someone, but know it might not be the best thing for them right then.
Talking to Darqueheart about Imp, just what plan does Melissa have. Great, her plan is to go to Imp's apartment and bug her until she caves in and tells them what is wrong. *hits head on desk in frustration* Beautiful woman with dark hair, Maria perhaps, stops them. Nope, she has a daughter who uses puppy dog eyes on her and doesn't even work then. At least Imp's friend knows she just wants peace and quiet, bugging her could have just made it worse. And Darqueheart seems to be warming up to Melissa and Monkeywrench, nice to see.
Trying to get drunk and pulls out the flash with 'Shine good stuff, dang, this is bad. Ah, should have known that woman was Tabby. Oh boy, bringing up Williams and how badly her hurt her has Imp starting to tear up again.
Ouch, could feel the pain her voice there. And putting herself down like that, hurts to see her like this.I took a deep breath, not able to look her in the eyes as I quietly asked, ""What's it like...being a mother?"
Good, at least she is back to normal now, scary how she was. Never say you can say that again to jokester like Imp, though it is a good routine. 2 hour seminar on lock picking, ooo, sign me up. Parent's Day tomorrow, let's hope it is less exciting than last year. Oh no! Razor gave Imp an idea, an Imp puppet, this is going to be good or bad, maybe a mix of both.
Ugh, idiot mother of one of Imp's art students trying to 'banish' her like she is a demon. 2 parents already, *groan* Aww, just announce you are dating by running up and kissing him already. Donald Pryce whose son is Grit, wonder what Grit's power is. Alicia's mom hugging Imp and saying she is a hero for saving her little girl, nice. At least some of the parents like her, plus she is a good teacher who loves the subject she teaches, important trait to have.
Someone put up a Larceny 101 sign on her 2nd classroom door, bet it was one of the SS. Carson actually encourages Imp teaching this stuff, whoa, didn't expect that. Ah, that makes sense, supplement with more in-depth teaching on stuff from survival class. Teach a class on how to pull a heist, oh boy. H1!, MCO, Jack Rabbit and Paradigm are just the tip of the iceberg of potential threats, scary how quickly Melissa has picked up foes.
That description of Melissa, then Imp saying she was exactly the same at that age, interesting. Oh goodie, introducing her dad to Maxine, wonder what he will hear about his daughter from her. Oooo, a dinner date, let Melissa figure out what is going on already, then hear the squee that shakes the world.
Ah, meeting up with Setup at the Crystal Hall right as she was about to leave. Tar and feather on a hero and clucking at him like a chicken, bwahahaha. Martina with her mom and Setup still shocked Imp is a teacher. Pinball can't make it, rats. And darn it, figures a hero is there and thinks she can just arrest Imp on the spot. Attacking Imp like that in the Crystal Hall with a bunch of students and their parents, she is going to get banned from coming back to Whateley at this rate.
Sureshock, blames her for not getting a spot on a big league team because she came after Imp, what a mook. After 3 years and hasn't improved her aim and has temper control issues, always small time hero at that rate. Everhart and Carson showing up, Sureshock is in huge trouble. Kicked off Whateley grounds, no longer welcome on school grounds, plus her nephew is embarrassed by her as she was going to take the art class next semester.
Figures, some people looking at Imp and probably thinking she should have been taken off instead just based on her appearance, ugh. Ryan knows what Imp is capable of, Sureshock is amateur hour at best. And nice to have Imp see the other side of security and Carson praising her as an art teacher.
Grape ape drink, nice reference, though I'm curious what's in it. Dang, a lot of heroes like that, definitely makes it obvious how much of a 'hero' they really are. Figures Ryan found out Jack Rabbit was involved in the ambush, too good not to. IRS bragging and trying to find out where she is hiding, typical. At least Ryan makes a good point about JR, and got her to agree to let him help her, that is huge.
All that information on the IRS members but still nothing on Heaven, darn it. Ah, the deal with Danny Boy, that is a huge mess and I bet the IRS is somehow going to get involved in it as well. Aww, Imp afraid of their relationship and how others might judge Ryan for dating her. At least Ryan still wishes to try and make it work, there is still hope!
Tabby showing up with her husband Robert, and Imp actually stopped herself from asking where Dynomutt is, that is some self-control. Sitting down and eating together, with only Imp knowing the 3 of them are heroes. Nice end to this part, but now I wish to harm Barney for what he did to Imp even more after seeing her like that.
Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.

running through her head the whole time, or at least as soon as she finishes thinking "I know something you don't know."
Why do I get the feeling that Foobs is going to arrange for Imp to have Oct 25 from now on.
Barney is probably lucky that Tabby didn't know the whole story, she is likely to do something about it.
Imp has made a great Imp-ression on many of her students, from all walks of life. Not something she would have expected.
I wonder who will sign up for Imp's Art of the Breakin class.
Aunt June, Sparky, has to be one of the dumbest "heroes" around. Vindictive too. I still want to know who Zenith's uncle is.

It's kind of weird thinking that if Imp's child had been born, they'd be almost the same age as Melissa. I wonder if they'd have been friends?
Parent's Day drove home to me that in addition to being the staff GSD representative, Carson is also using Imp as the representative supervillain. It's no secret that there are former members of the less than legal occupations among the teachers, and by drawing attention to the fabulous (but almost entirely harmless) Imp she distracts from the more objectionable supervillains such as Lady Hydra who actually have serious body counts.
I'm really starting to think that Imp should reveal her secret identity to Ryan, if only so that they can go on dates in public. It wouldn't surprise me too much if he'd already figured it out, though. He's not an idiot.

There is no evidence for that. First if that were true, we would see an impling in gen 2! Which is not in evidence. So, until we see Ryan retired and living in the Village with Imp and a child with them who is their child we can only hope that Imp and Ryan have a fruitful romance.

Adoption. That popped into my head. Imp is contacted by a lawyer and finds out that a super villain she was on good terms with named her the guardian of her child. Knowing that Imp teaches at the safest most mutant friendly school in the world.
Introducing a suitably precocious brat to make Generation Two even more interesting.
Or She and Ryan adopted twins, for similar reasons. They are now manifesting early and will be coming to school. one is focused on the villain track, the other is determined to go hero.

The "IRS" is just lucky that Razorback doesn't find out about them and tell Caitlin.

Caitlin would have a few issues with a few members of the IRS. She's destructive, sure, but brawling with the IRS isn't particularly smart, and Imp would have to talk to Cait about it, something that I doubt would happen under even the best circumstances.
What the IRS crew are lucky about is that Lady Astarte has not decided to personally involve herself in their idiocy. People think Caitlin is scary, there are other people on the actual school staff who are much, much better at what they do than she is, even if you ignore the fact that many of them outpower her severely.
I think I mentioned somewhere in a story that Gunny Bardue (still a baseline) still has Caitlin locked out in fencing. And the two practiced Sabre together.
But the most important consideration: This is Imp's story. She's actually been a supervillain for about as long as Caitlin Bardue has been alive, and a successful one at that. I wouldn't put much faith in Caitlin's ability to do better than the Imp that called Carson Ass-Tart on more than one occasion and got away with it.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting Caitlin to go alone, but to organize a group made up of either other teachers, the Outcasts, the Grunts (well except maybe Bomber), the Dragonslayers, or even just the Hooligans.
And as I said, my point isn't that Imp can't deal with it, but that she still doesn't understand her change in status. She's getting there, with Sam and Mrs. Carson supporting her over Sparky, but having people from Whateley people protecting her from enemies would help her understand that she really isn't alone.
It wouldn't surprise me if Mrs. Carson asked Tabby to meet with Imp, or at least encouraged her to.

With that said... my impressions.
The reason people say the IRS is lucky Caitlin didn't get involved is not because she's particularly good at this kind of thing nor because of her power level. It's because, frankly, Caitlin has, shall we say, self-control issues. Lady Astarte is very good at her job and packs a terrifying punch, but she would stop as soon as her opponent was defeated. Caitlin... not so much. If she got into one of her berserker rages, it would take someone else to calm her down before it got to the point where the M.E. would need a blotter to cart off the remains.
Now, the question is, would Caitlin go berserk over an attack on Imp? I really don't think so. She might offer to help Imp, and she might do a good professional job of it, but a teacher, one that has a, shall we say, colourful past, is not one of her trigger buttons. Now, if the IRS had happened to attack one of the kids... (Yes, I know, Bunny Foo Foo has a history of abusing kids, but he is not doing that right now, so it's not so much of an emotional trigger issue)
Now, this story has three concurrent plots. There's the romantic plot, there's the revenge plot with the IRS and there's the mystery plot regarding Imp's brother. I'm not convinced, however that Plot 2 and Plot 3 aren't interlinked somehow (although so far there's no evidence for that); it seems just too coincidental for both of them, both bringing back issues from her past, to hit her in the same weekend,

No, I don't expect Imp to get any students involved, she wouldn't put any child in danger if she could avoid it. And I agree that Razorback would be the worst Outcast to get involved.
My point about Caitlin is that, opposed to Mrs. Carson, Tabby Cat, or any of the other "heroes" at Whateley, Caitlin is not going to hold back, whichever group of people she went with they would stomp the "IRS" into the mud. Mrs. Carson might beat them up, but she would be more interested in capturing them, arresting them, and all that. Caitlin is more in the lesson teaching, for the survivors business. From the bit we learned about SSG Wilson, he might want in on it too.

Owl of hen. There were so flocking many, you don't even crow. The loons couldn't tit a bird in. It was a clucking masterpiece. Simply raptorous. True, so if anyone from the school interferes I would expect that Lady Astarte will be the one to do it. She may or may not send someone to shadow Imp (like Tabby Cat) but somehow even though it happened off school grounds I imagine that she (Mrs Carson) sees an attack on any of her teachers as a violation of neutrality. Of course eventually Imp and the Secret Squirrels probably dance a few more times with Barny as the instigator with as much plausible deniability as possible. Which may lead to Carson ejecting him eventually....Kettlekorn wrote: The problem with that, from a storytelling perspective, is that this is a story about Imp. Ayla and Jade have no personal connection to her. I'm not saying they wouldn't help if they were in a situation to do so, but that's just who they are, not a consequence of Imp's growth. Having them play any significant role right now would weaken her story. Imp's problems need to be resolved either by herself, or by the people she has established significant relationships with.

That's why I said Carson would only step in if asked, or it became necessary. As a hero she knows all about how important face is, especially for supervillains.
And I doubt Imp needs the help beyond Chicken Hawk, who has a known personal stake in this through Jackass. Even with every possible advantage, they still had Imp escape, now that she's going after them they are in for a world of hurt.

Danny stared at me for several long seconds with a strange expression on his face. “It might not be my place anymore,” he said carefully. “But that kind of life sounds like it might be lonely.”
“You’re right,” I replied. “It isn’t your place.”
“Are you alone?” Danny asked, giving me a look of concern and pity. “Do you have anyone in your life?” When I didn’t answer, he asked, “How can you live like that?”
I get the impression that it's Danny Boy who's feeling lonely. I have to wonder how many of his dreams he had to sell off just to be taken for granted as the Good Son.
Chris shook his head at that and let out another sigh. At one point, he’d been the best athlete in his entire school, and it had seemed like he was destined for fame and glory on the football field. But then, he’d manifested as a mutant, and was no longer allowed to compete. All his dreams had crumbled to dust, until he’d found a new dream.
Turns out life's not like a football game, where the playing field's all levelled before the game, the stats on the trading cards are all consistent, the padding's guaranteed to take the hit, and on any given Friday night your team can win. Speaking of folks being sold a second-hand dream...

True but work by famous forgers can go for quite a lot, not as much as the original its true, but Danny can get some respectable business as Imp signed her forgeries with a special signature, especially with her better work, and in a gallery he could have it set up to show a story behind them, creating intrigue, worth more than the art itself, as it can bring more than just art nuts in the door.Arcanist Lupus wrote:

Below is a stream of conscious commentary I type up as I read the story. There will details from the story included in it. If you have not read the story yet and don't wish to have details of it spoiled, read no further.
Imp 6: A Very Imp-ortant Date Part 3 comments
Oh no he didn't, imp-lying Imp isn't a lady. Man can't take a crack about his manhood without getting distracted long enough for Imp to make a break for it, rookie mistake. Running through mid-air, handy power. Can make himself immune to other people's powers and immune to certain laws of physics, sounds highly dangerous in the right hands. Princess Bride reference, and he played along with Imp, who is this guy.
Telling Asterisk some of why she is helping out Danny Boy, but leaving out critical details, hope he doesn't have the resources to make the true connection between them. Wonder if the phone number on the back of that 'GET OUT OF JAIL FREE' card is to Whateley.
Ack! Don't give any wannabes out there any ideas, Imp, those codenames for heroes or villains would just be silly. A class on witty banter, I would take it, though pray for everyone if Jade takes it. An old office building with that kind of security, just asking for bigger fish in the underworld to sweep right in and take over. Interesting detail about Imp's Chameleon Field, good limitation that makes it more interesting as well.
Richard Dunn, an accountant and mobster, would need an accountant for money laundering if they didn't wish to be screwed over. Making him think the Moonrise Gallery is infested with feds, wonder if he has the information network to check if that is true or not. *sigh* Oldest act in the book, pretend you knew all along about something to get real information about it. Great, Danny might be dead either way, typical low-level mobster solution.
Great, Dunn thinking about why Imp wants the gallery.
Need to introduce an Imp snack to bribe her with."I would have gotten away with it too," I mused, "if it hadn't been for those meddling kids."

Going to the graves of her parents as herself, now that is painful. What she finally says to the graves.
Ouch. Oh boy, Danny Boy showing up there, if Dunn happens to see them together at their parents graves this is going to be very bad. Ouch, one of most painful subjects for Imp and her brother helps dredge it up."I'm sorry," I finally said. "I'm sorry I wasn't the daughter you wanted, and I'm sorry you weren't the parents I needed."
Danny really doesn't know Imp at all, saying she is insane, yet not realizing it is part of an act. Danny trying to show compassion and act like the big brother after all these years, that is more painful than if he acted callous towards her. I would have walked away from the conversation before she did.
Dunn's thugs are better dressed than most of the goons Kingpin employs in the comics, talk about showy. Bwahahaha, Beetlejuice voice with his famous line, wish I could actually hear her say that. Would-be sniper, Dunn should be glad he isn't dealing with a more ruthless individual or he would be toast for that. Controlling interest in her family's art gallery, nice. And Asterisk just has to ruin everything, over-zealous and making jokes once more, even a call-back to the thesaurus joke earlier.
Classic 'Wilheim' scream, very reminiscent of Goofy, he is a male version of Imp! And the old air breaks gag from Bugs Bunny cartoons, hard to hate Asterisk. Ouch, my sides, the banter between Imp and Asterisk is too funny. And Rodney Dangerfield impression as well, now that brings me back. And he called the number on the card, goes right to Mrs. Carson at Whateley, nice.
Spells out the whole deal, all to get Danny back the gallery and keep his life, yet Asterisk still wants his criminal.
Nice Elmer Fudd reference, always fun. Hehe, number juggling, she never said she wouldn't point a hero to another money laundering operation Dunn had going, clever loophole. Its cwiminal season, and I aim to gets me a cwiminal."
Ah, classic Looney Tunes, can see why this guy was a fan of Imp when younger. Imp leaving with a Snaggle Puss line, ah, I just love reliving my childhood when reading Imp stories."Which way did he go, George? Which way did he go?" "He went, thataway," I responded, pointing in that general direction.
Chris Matthews frustrated and Voodude wondering about what. Chris and Jon that opposite, interesting friendship I bet. Chris trying to get into Capes Squad and trying too hard, Jon is right about trying too hard. Hehehe, Jon talking about a guy's ass and Chris thinking Jon is just trying to get him to look at a guy's ass. Jon openly bi, forgot for a moment Voodude was one of the bi-guys in Poe.
*groans* Chris thinking he has to prove himself a hero or the girls won't go for him. Oh boy, thinks Roulette is attractive, then Peacock, poor guy just has bad luck in choosing girls. Not wishing to date Mischief because she isn't an exemplar and might be a bit insane, too high of standards. Unstoppable messing with Miranda and Ember, trying to bully them into giving him cookies, he is a complete moron! Oh no, Chris is that idiot Aegis, not him!
Ouch, even with his PK field up Unstoppable broke Aegis' nose, never underestimate your opponent and just take a hit because you think you can. Clothes burned off by Ember and sent into the air only to come crashing down again by Miranda, Unstoppable needs to learn who to leave alone and who their friends and relatives are. Aegis thinks this ruined his reputation, no chance to join the Capes Squad, boy, he needs a serious reality check.
Brown Moose Cafe, proprietors are Rick and Dave, nice to know. Dinner with Maria and Louis, nice. Figures she told Carson everything, best to have your boss in the know just in case. Funny story she is making up about what she was up to, I wouldn't buy it myself even coming from Imp. Louis is pushing things with Imp, threats of jello are not to be taken lightly when Imp is involved.
Halloween in 2 days, at Whateley it is hard to tell sometimes, let is be much calmer than last year at least. Maria trying to get Imp to wear a costume for Halloween, but what would she go as that would be better than herself. Carson there for business involving Imp, for a special project. Oh no! She wants Imp to play a part in helping Aegis out, stubborn idiot will get himself killed before graduation at the rate he is going.
That stubborn about not using what he has learned in basic martial arts, Aegis has to one of the densest students at Whateley right now. Section on Aegis' power testing results, don't tell me has a PK field that is more like Imp's than a normal PK supers. If that is true, what she could teach him would be very interesting to watch.
How will Imp help out Aegis with his attitude towards GSD students, plus those he thinks of as 'future supervillains', with Imp being a former supervillain and having GSD. Getting him past that attitude will be the first hurdle. Briefing from Gunny, MacGuffin Gemstone, oh brother, Gunny needs to work on those artifact names.
Wait a minute, purple hat and cape wrapped around her, Imp is doing a Darkwing Duck impersonation, I love it!
Bart Simpson lookalike and don't have a cow, man, she is great form."I am the popcorn kernel that gets caught between your teeth," I added in a dramatic tone. Then, I flung my cape open and made a dramatic pose, finishing with, "I am Darkwing Imp."
Ouch, smacks into the side of a building trying to jump after Imp, think before you act. Man, a lot of classic Bart Simpson lines, haven't heard that Butterfinger one in years. Oh boy, Aegis has forgotten the 'gem' is just a prop, no actual crime in progress. Brute force, just barreling ahead, Aegis needs the reality of his tactics hit over his head. Ugh, still thinking his PK field can stop anything, even after what happened with Unstoppable.
Even a full PK-backed punch by Imp sends him flying. Chasing after her, demanding she get back and fight him, he seems to think villains act like they do in comics, but even thieves in comics tend to run if given the chance. Bwahahaha, Michigan J. Frog routine in the middle of arena right in front of Aegis. Then running off and more classic Bart lines, Aegis is going through the ringer.
Stuck in a hole and time runs out, man, Aegis did terribly. Chewed out by Bardue and then told by him Imp would be his tutor on using his powers, Aegis acting high and mighty like Imp doesn't know anything about being a hero, ugh. All those incidents with so-called heroes, including the one with Barney that Imp describes and it finally gets to Aegis with that one or so it seems to.
"A lot of people become heroes for the wrong reasons," I stated in a cold tone. "Because they want fame and glory. Because they want to show off how strong or powerful they are. Because they've got a lot of anger and other issues, and they want to take it out on other people legally. And then, very rarely, you get one who's in it because they legitimately just want to help people. I've seen more than my share of each of them, up close and personal."
All that and Aegis is still acting defiant, talk about stubborn. Boy, Imp is playing hardball with if Aegis wishes to learn from her or not. Wonder after all that he will actually show up for tutoring with Imp on his powers or not.
Would why the students would snicker at the irony of Imp's costume, angel or something similar, or is she dressed up as Lady Astarte. Louis as a Next Gen Star Fleet officer and Lillian Dennon as Queen of Hearts, nice costumes. Ah, was the first one, Imp dressed as an angel, perfect. *eyes bug out* Please let Carson not be in hearing range of Imp right now, shoulder angels, *shudders* Ah, so she did consider coming as Lady Astarte, would pay for a drawing of Imp in that costume.
One of the girls in Imp's art class came as her, cute. Music by Outcast Corner, always good. Monkeywrench as Diddy Kong, nice and simple for him, yet stands out. Melissa as a ghost of a girl from the 50s, nice. Barney dressed like that, yeah, I would wish him being scalped myself. Carson came to the party dressed as Imp, didn't see that coming, funny. Ah, lost a wager with Louis involving the SS, poor Carson.
4 showers and still not all of the glow-in-the-dark paint for Melissa's costume came off, potent stuff. Pranked by Trixie, plans for revenge prank on her, pity the girls in their cottage. Aegis actually showed up, guess he actually learned something from her lecture. All that, everything in the arena, and Aegis still thinks he knows how to use his powers. PK 3 and Regen 3, nice mix, almost like Imp's power mix.
Seems I guess right or close earlier, PK shell a lot like Imp's, a lot more flexible than other PK's shells. And Aegis actually thinks Imp has all those different powers, only looking at the obvious. All those fake MIDs, and she is a PK 3 and Regen 4, yet has learned how to use her PK is so many ways. Revealing that to Aegis, she has put a lot of trust in him that few others have.
PK aura, and Aegis list off the most standard applications of PK. And you don't need a lot of power with a versatile power and creativity like Imp has, even more imp-pressive now. Learning even a few of Imp's tricks would make Aegis very tricky opponent to deal with. It is going to be interesting to watch Imp as she continues to teach Aegis in using his powers.
Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.

Snark fighting at its best, some family issues, seeing a hero and villains settling things sensibly rather than simply punching away their problems, Imp gets a new student, Carson shows off her sense of humour, Aegis gets beaten up and humiliated, Unstoppable gets set on fire, and Mischief gets pranked.
I couldn't ask for more.

I wonder next year if she'll find her class schedule gives her that day, or week, off?
By this time next year, she will already be pregnant.

Seriously though, I think the most interesting question on chapter 3 is "who the heck is this Asterisk?" He's the Bizarro World Imp. Where did he come from and why has she never heard of him until now? He seems to have some sort of personal connection to her that inspired him to be the way he is. But how so? I seriously doubt it's Danny. He seems far too straight-laced to be hiding something of this caliber. A time-traveling alternate-dimension version of her possible future kid? Who knows?

Relatively new hero in a small city, he'd have to do something huge to reach national recognition.
And it can't be Danny, otherwise he'd be investigating himself.
I'd say he saw Imp on the news a few times taunting heroes, read about her antics and thought they were cool. So when he began training to be a hero he tried to be like her. His powers while cool and very useful aren't exactly fantastic for taking down big threats, he needs an edge, and Imp showed him the way.

I was going to comment on the page with the story itself, but the system told me that I was using excessive verbage, thus, I'll put my thoughts here as it appears to be the proper place.
Several comments expressed surprise at the Imp having an MID, as well as the multiple MID angle. Others noted the MCO control over MIDs.
My thoughts on the matter are that the MID issuing process appears to have two distinct phases. Testing first, then coding and issuing the MID itself.
Considering the Imp's previous career and her own abilities in regards to crafting believable forgeries, I would think she would have no problem getting MID's that say whatever she wants. I also suspect that any official testing she had would have been done at Whateley, not an MCO office (for obvious reasons, they would like to catch an actual criminal). To me, that means that there were multiple opportunities to give the MCO false data. Based on her career she would have the necessary connections to alter any electronic files before they were sent to the MCO. If a paper file was submitted instead, she has the ability to get that file and substitute it with another that says what she wants it to say. Then there is the possible collusion angle, where other members at Whateley aid her in deceiving the MCO (on orders from Hartford or Carson for example, or as a result of a bribe from the Imp). The MCO could be well and truly in the dark about what powers the Imp actually has.
Another comment mentioned the possibility of Carson having secret files detailing the powers of her employees. I think that highly likely. She would want to know who could do what and of anything that might be a problem later in some particular circumstance. Keeping files other than "official" files is a common theme in the "real world". Students have a "permanent record" that follows them class to class and grade to grade. Every teacher also keeps individual records on students, but once a student is out of their class, has graduated, or after a certain period of time, those files are destroyed. The same is true in the US military as well.
So, did the Imp reveal her actual powers as determined by legitimate testing? Maybe, it appears she did (based on her habits of being at least mostly honest and caring about students). Does the MCO have that information? Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.
All that being said... Great story so far and I look forward to reading more. Partially because these stories are well written but also because they are easier to follow than digging in the archives and trying to put stories in a proper order that makes sense when trying to follow a particular character.

She also implied that she'd worked out her ratings herself.

Going from that point, my sense of logic dictates that at least some degree of testing would be required for new staff that did not already have a valid MID. Additionally, I suspect that Carson would have demanded that power testing be part of the agreement for the Imp to become a teacher, if for no other reason than for Carson to know what she would be dealing with if things went sour.

Sphincter was a decent interlude of unexpected humor, but I quite enjoyed the general snarkiness and I'm sure, this being morpheus, that was not remotely the last we'll see of Danny Boy. Dollars to Donuts, he's got a kid or more, and one of them will manifest in spectacular fashion...

based on the ages of Danny and Imp I would think it would be more likely it would be a grandchild than a child. Unless he had a late in age kid. He'd be what, in his fifties. Depending when he had a kid it's not out of line for him to have a Grandkid just coming up on the dangerous years.

With average ages for puberty at 10-16, and Danny at 49, that would put him having a child somewhere between the age of 34-39 (for his own child to be manifesting). It would make a grandchild unlikely by my scenario, unless he had a child prior to graduating college (or if he graduated early, I think the youngest college graduate was 10 years old), but assuming he had one at age 18, then his child did the same, his grandchild would be 13, which would be in the middle of the average age for entering puberty. The child manifesting as a mutant scenario seems far more probable.

That would be interesting to be sure. It appears to me that certain traits tend to be common in families. Would that mean that if Danny has a child that is a mutant that some sort of GSD would be more likely? Then, if the answer is yes, what form would it most likely take?

We have already seen Aegis start to change, he is accepting tutelage from a retired villain with GSD that gives her devilish good looks. And of the cape wannabees with a jock mindset, he is the most likely to be enlightened, shall we say. Its basically now established that he isn't strictly bigoted, just impressed upon by an anti gsd media. He's sees someone who looks like a monster that is going to effect his first instincts, he needs to learn to look before leaping is all. He has the right instincts, they are just a little misguided and he needs to learn to fight smarter. He is not doing it as an excuse to beat people up, as we have seen he routinely attempts the hero shield thing, even though he isn't brickish enough for that to be a good idea.Anne wrote: I suppose we shall see

The most dangerous result here would be that Imp teaches him to fight effectively, but he still jumps to conclusions and makes judgments based on first impressions. Right now he's not that dangerous, but he could be, very.
Training him to effectively use his powers is the easy part really. Teaching him to not be a bigot is a lot harder. Simply being in contact with Imp day to day, and likely other GSD students as she won't teach him in a vacuum might help. Or it might just cause him to think that there are exceptions, but most freak mutants are still dangerous and likely evil.

I could picture her giving it a shot. Aegis is in desperate need of learning to stop rushing to judgement and ignoring the facts of the environment around him. Also to lighten the fark up if he wants more people to like him. Mischief somewhat desperately needs to stop chasing her impulses so much and maybe engage people more as people than as props and playmates.
Them working together as a team (maybe with Maxine and Jon?) could be a nightmare for folks around them - which I heartily approve of

In that scenario, if Danny is "anti-mutant" I could envision a child being resentful of him and wanting to "take him down". But in such a scenario, I can't imagine him being willing to back off to go after the money launderer, I would think he would still be intent on getting Danny instead. I think any direct familial connections between the Asterisk and Danny is most likely a red herring. I suspect instead that the Asterisk is a new hero and found a lead that just happened to end up tying him into the Imp. Any child (or grandchild) of Danny's I think would be a possible Whateley candidate if he/she manifest as a mutant, as Danny would likely call Imp to ask "what should I do?".
There is a pretty interesting line in this segment of this story, where Imp accuses Danny of always being the favorite and he lashes back out at her for, 'not understanding anything.' Then she blows him off before he can explain and walks away.
She never listens to what he has to say about him or their parents. She made up her mind about them when she ran away at 15.
The authors have been reminding us that the entire Whateley Universe is a bunch of unreliable narrator accounts. Imp's parents were afraid and did hide her away and try to "fix" her, but after she ran away, we have no idea what happened because Imp doesn't either and hasn't asked. She assumes.
But Danny knows, and has been trying to tell her. He was more horrified that she became an unabashed supervillain, instead of having issues any with her mutation.
Danny doesn't know where she works now. For all we know, Imp's niece or nephew may already be at the school. Perhaps she's even taught them. If so, Carson hasn't told her for the same reason they kept Caitlin from her little sister and visiting mother for a little while. It would cause more problems until Imp has sort of figured who she wants Imp the Teacher to be.

I seem to recall something of a saying along the lines of, "There are three sides to any story, my side, your side and the truth".
To Imp what she went through with her parents and her perception of the situation marks them down firmly in the "bad" category. But it is possible that the parents were trying to protect her in some way, perhaps not in the best way but the only way they knew how (though I think chopping of my tail, if I had one, would cause me some strong psychological issues). But how did the parents react after she headed out on her own?
As you say, Danny knows, but the Imp does not.
That could well be the seed for future installments. Now, with some sort of at least non-hostile relations reestablished between Imp and Danny, and the possibility of a niece or nephew at Whateley, we could be heading straight for an epic saga. All without revealing any details ahead of time.
She does seem to still have feeling for her family, so it isn't like she is a sociopath, there is lots of potential for recovering the familial relationship with Danny and any potential offspring he has. That being said, her reactions remind me of how many of us on the submarine reacted. Living in extremely close quarters means you have no personal space really (hot racking comes to mind). Our common defense was to become intensely private in regard to our feelings and home lives. It is hard to break through a Submariners shield of privacy to get to the person on the inside. Imp seems to be much the same. It would take time for Danny to earn the level of trust needed to get Imp to fully open up. However, a niece or nephew might be able to shortcut through a great deal of that. There would be no "bad" memories involving the niece or nephew, so if Danny does have a child at Whateley (or one that ends up there) and reveals the relationship to the Imp, that could open the flood gates and result in a very fast and strong bond between Imp and the kid.

Asterisk could be Danny's child. But who says Danny has to know this or even that he has a kid. Asterisk's mom could have never told Danny about him.

Now, we didn't get much background on Danny. He could be out sowing wild oats all the time. That would be highly contrary to how the family life was portrayed, and would mark a substantial deviation. Possible, but again, to me, it seems unlikely. Danny seems to be a mostly respectable sort and seems to still hold a great deal of admiration and respect for his parents. I just don't see him going out and doing such things.
As for the no contact bit. Yes, possible. But my logic sense says that the mother would likely at least try to get medical history and child support. Medical history if nothing else...particularly with the evidently greater frequency of mutant manifestations (unless the mother was already from a family with a history of mutants).

MM2ss wrote: Possible. Assuming Asterisk to be at least 18 would mean Danny was 31 at the time of birth. Well within the range. But it seems somewhat unlikely that the mother would not make any contact to me. That may just be because of my own biases and the way I was raised. But unless it was a one night stand type of situation, it just doesn't seem to fit to me.
My experience with alcoholism (among other things) in the family has been that some breakups can be bitter to the point of making sure a biological father never is allowed contact with his children, grandchildren, etc. It's not unknown for the offender to clean up their act to the point that no one would have reason to believe things could have gotten that bad.
I can even understand Christine's parents eventually realizing how much they'd thrown away and cost their remaining child, but either having too much pride or guilt to do anything constructive about it before their own lives ran out.

If he was that bitter to want to throw his own father into jail, I don't think he'd so wise ass about his work. Also it would be simple for him to steal his dads keys and passwords, break into the office and walk out with the ledgers to hand over to police. The whole charade of being a superhero unrelated to Danny is unnecessary.
As for being a long lost child, again it just doesn't ring true to me for the reasons above. A simple way to get the ledgers is to reunite with his father, get him drunk as they celebrate, and go through his files that way.
Simple is almost always better than complicated, and always better than ultra complex plots with unneeded complications.

I guess next chapter we get to see just how stupid the IMP revenge squad is. Will they dare try to strike out at her at Whateley? Surely at least one of them must know how incredibly stupid that would be?
Or are they all clueless and think it's just a hidden freak school that depends on secrecy for protection?

Yeah, that last line just has me thinking "You know, this isn't going to work out quite how you're hoping. Just wanted to let you guys know that." Knowing where Imp is doesn't help you get revenge when where she is happens to be Whateley. Rather the opposite. Picking a fight with a retired supervillain is probably fine, or at least as fine as picking a fight with a retired supervillain ever is, even if she's a Whateley teacher. Picking a fight with a Whateley teacher with full knowledge, and likely going to Whateley to do it? Very different story.

Disappointed that we didn't get any more clues as to what is twisting Heaven's knickers, but hopefully we'll find out a bit more in the next installment.

Below is a stream of conscious commentary I type up as I read the story. There will details from the story included in it. If you have not read the story yet and don't wish to have details of it spoiled, read no further.
Imp 6: A Very Imp-ortant Date Part 4 comments
Not able to get through to Bob by phone call, I have a bad feeling the IRS knows his connection to Imp and got to him, using him as bait for a trap. Superbad, at least it doesn't seem like a trap so far, but with Hexagoner 2.0 in the IRS they could use illusions to disguise themselves.
Darn, sounds like Bob is laying low because Jack Rabbit is back in town, hope JR didn't get to him."Where, oh where, has my little Bob gone," I quietly sang out. "Where, oh where, can he be?"
The IRS offering a reward for Imp's whereabouts, persistent little buggers, ain't they. Bob really needs to leave better clues behind, like what the address is to. A building like that, that close to where the Black Mask usually has its door, has IRS current HQ written all over it and trap to go inside imo.
Hehe, funny."Are you trying to imp-ly something," I asked with a grin. "I'll have you know, that I am very imp-ulsive. Imp-ressively so."
Trip wires, motion sensors, and evidence of people staying there, the IRS are that desperate for revenge on Imp to stay in a place like that. Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears bit, part of it, cute. There as recent as yesterday afternoon, seesh, these people need to get a life. Ambush the IRS in the same spot they ambushed her, poetic justice, can't wait for it. Dinner together tomorrow evening, after what might be an intense fight, oh boy.
Interesting drink. Old fashioned ice cream soda, want one. Using Pink Piper to gather intel, nice to have others you can count on, even if you have to pay. Ooo, very nice power, control rats to do some of the work, wonder what places she can get into with their aid. Crud, so that is why she is called Heaven, golden energy wings and sword, didn't expect that. Oh, that is just perfect, stink bombs made by Trixie delivered by the rats.
Bwahahaha, CTD's helmet has a filter and the stink is still getting in, that is priceless. Muscle as Imp's bodyguard and leg breaker for the day, talk about prepared. Rats running up Hexagoner 2.0's legs and her totally freaking out, this fight is turning into a comedy and I'm loving it. And JR is still a delusional nutbar who needs to be locked up. And slammed hard by Superhawk, JR is a real idiot to rack up the kind of enemies he has.
Heh, not like she would have to trigger Superhawk, he was coming even if she tried to keep him away. Kidnapped his daughter, part of an attack where they tried to kill his girlfriend, JR better hope too many bones aren't broken by the time SH is done with him. CTD and H 2.0 going for ranged attacks and actually trying to not hit their teammates, thought they would want to kill Imp more than focus on that.
Those throwing spikes with Imp's power are brutal. And H 2.0 knows the truth about how H 1.0 died, yet says she still has to kill Imp, oh brother. Ouch, Muscle hit hard by CK. Smoke bomb and disappearing trick, only to reappear with her hands over CTD's eyes, love it. Darn, CTD has so many gadgets, figures he has some type of PDF. Ooo, reminding Imp he cut her tail off, that was the dumbest thing he could do right then.
Leg cut off right at the knee, CTD just never learns not to piss off Imp. Nice Britney Spears song line there by her too. Trapped by H 2.0 and CK charging her, good thing Imp has iron shavings on her to escape. H 2.0 trying to blast with everything she's got, only for Imp to use CK as a shield and he loses an arm as it blackens and crumbles away, sickening spell. CK down, H 2.0 freaking out about the rats so much she put up another hexagon to keep the rats away from her, this group falls apart easily when they don't have the advantage.
Superhawk taking down Heaven and still acting the part that he is going to take Imp in when he is done with them. Okay, just what are Heaven's powers to pull off a group teleport when they are spread out like that. Superhawk actually made a pun, paid an arm and a leg, Imp is rubbing off on him. Muscle okay, but hurting, thinking he should retire. Pink Piper saying he is a local legend, he can't retire, plus from the sounds of it she has a crush on the big guy, cute.
Double payment for Pink Piper for good work, very nice. *eyes bug out* Five years ducking professional assassins and hitmen after the price on her head, no wonder she is so good. Wonder what the IRS will do now to regroup, they will keep coming until shut down permanently, stubborn bunch of idiots.
First dress-up date in over 15 years, dang. Interesting way to test Ryan, this won't scare him off though. Buffed and polished talons and horns, boy, wonder what kind of upkeep mutants with other types of GSD have. Ouch, having to punch new holes for earrings every time she removes a pair. Bracelets for her tail, cute.
"Dahling," I said to the Imp in the mirror. "You look mahvalous."
Aww, I was with Imp, hoping for a romantic dinner cooked by Ryan at his place. At least he likes how she looks. A high end restaurant, yet Ryan says it will be okay with how she looks, no disguise needed, huh. Mutant friendly reputation, wonder who told Ryan about this place. And ouch, reminders of how other have reacted to her based on her appearance alone, can see why she is so nervous.
Whoa, worth the risk of being seen together in public so they can have a future together, even got Imp teary-eyed, Ryan is an amazing guy. Petting the flat blade at the end of Imp's tail since it ended up in his lap, cute. And a new detail about Imp's tail is known, hehe. Going to a small park to walk around, only for it to rain, aww. Back to his place for a few drinks, Imp can't get drunk off the normal stuff but Ryan can, oh boy.
A shoulder massage, Ryan really knows the way to a woman's heart. Bwahahaha, playing that Madonna song right as Ryan comes back in the room, sneaky Imp. Imp dancing to the music, something is going to happen tonight at this rate. As Mischief would say if she knew, yay, I'm getting a new mom! Dancing like that and something definitely happened, they are so cute together, like a couple of teenagers almost.
After all Imp has been through in her life, she deserves this happiness with Ryan. Dang, she has been hurt badly in the past to keep testing Ryan like this. Oh no, not the Swedish Chef, imitating` him while cooking is a bad idea. And Ryan proves Imp's fears are unfounded, that is a man smitten.
Snatching bacon is a piece of cake, and that breakfast sounds delicious. Wonder what other business she came to town for. Sneaky way to get some privacy on an elevator. Whoa, big step in their relationship, taking Ryan to the Imp Lair. The stolen scotch bottle from Bruce Goodkind's office, polished off the bottle together with Mrs. Carson the night she offered her a job at Whateley Academy, nice souvenir.
So few people show up at her place, Alicia, Melissa, Mrs. Carson and now Ryan. *eyes bug out* She is going to reveal the magic amulet and her other identity to Ryan, now this is huge. Awww, she revealed the amulet and that she has an alias to sell her artwork through, but not who it is. Her art studio and revealing her original pieces, she did reveal she is Candice Kade, yay!
At least Ryan understands quickly, just Christine or the Imp, Candice is just an alias now. And how Imp figured out Ryan's secret identity is revealed to him at last. And Ryan finding out sharp his daughter really is, figuring out Imp was Candice, girl may love pranks and act a little nuts, but she is sharp.
Woohoo!"So," Ryan said, looking me straight into the eyes. "My favorite artist, and my favorite lady, happen to be the same person. Admittedly, it's a bit of a surprise, but I think I can consider this a win win."
A happy Imp is a fun Imp to watch, just wonder how long they can keep the relationship from Ryan before Melissa finds out. Love that she is a caring teacher, concerned for her students, need more of those in the world. Danny Boy showing up for a meeting, guess they have to wrap up their business. Bwahahaha, Imp using fake identities and businesses to remain Danny Boy's silent and invisible partner in their family's museum, priceless.
Danny actually trying to apologize for what he did in the past, saying he was a dumb kid, dang. Didn't understand until he saw how his own daughter was treated for being different, Down's Syndrome, ouch. Lizzy is 17 and a sweet girl, hope Danny is the good father he says he is. Little bittersweet there, the lost chance to be a good older brother, realized far too late. Dang, getting those posters back, a piece of her lost childhood, tugs right at the heartstrings. And yes, Mrs. Carson would tease Imp for having a Ms. Might autographed poster.

Heaven furious Imp is still alive and they got torn up badly. Mistress Hex is H 2.0 real codename, oh brother. Ah, so The Black Cross is the one who got the new hand prosthetic for CTD, thought it was cloned or something like that. JR wants to go by Jackalope now, good grief. And an associate of his named Sureshock told Jack Ass Imp is at Whateley Academy, they try to attack her there and they are as good as dead. Have to be completely insane to attack someone at Whateley Academy.
Very nice story, lots of details from Imp's history. All that pain she has gone through, some go dark, others deal with it through humor. What would her life have been like if any one major event changed, if her brother had reacted differently, if Williams aka Barney hadn't caused her to have a miscarriage, if she had just not been judged based on her appearance alone. It is nice to wonder, still this tale told us so much. And finally she has happiness in her life, with Ryan, with being a teacher with students she cares about. If the IRS threatens any of that, if they dare come at her at Whateley, it is going to end badly for them. And I can't wait to see that happen.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked.

It's possible none of them knows what the place is, though they referred to it by name, so it sounds like they do. They didn't say, "some school in New Hampshire" or even "some school called Whateley Academy". But even if none of them know the place, surely ONE of them would do research on it before they attack and realize it's a no go. But then they wouldn't do it and we wouldn't have this cliffhanger for want of Chekhov's Gun. So I guess we're going to see how it plays out because right now it seems like the only way they could straight up attack the place would be with inhuman lack of forethought and end very quickly and very badly for them (none of them is exactly a juggernaut. Two don't even have powers [or a full set of limbs].) The only thing I can think of would be for them to try something sneaky like hiring a student to do something underhanded, but that seems fairly uncharacteristic for all of these impulsive idiots. Either way, they're going to join forces with Williams.
And speaking of the ol' dinosaur, based on the fact that Jack Ass found out where Imp was from some outside source, I think that pretty firmly confirms that Heaven has no connection to Williams. Though we DID get another mention of the whiskey stolen from Bruce Goodkind. I'm still pulling for THAT to be the big thing she wants revenge for. Like, she was a member of the extended Goodkind family, a niece or stepcousin or a father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roomate or something, hiding that she was secretly a mutant, and through some Rube Goldberg-esque sequence of events beginning with the whiskey theft, she was exposed and cast out.

It depends on how they approach the problem. Assuming they find out which "lanes" are allowed from Syndicate sources, they could at least bypass the Mediwhela weres. Then the question becomes whether their intel and bank books are good enough to get past Third Platoon. They may be baselines, but they aren't mooks.

As with Security, Aquerna's been a great example of what proper training will get you. Too bad we don't see them hanging together except at lunch and in their clubhouse room. But even some of those who don't have power or strong kung fu still have evasion training. It could be fun.

That could easily become a dark story with one of the kids being hurt badly, or having to deal with having killed one or more people.
Valentine wrote: 6. The Vindicators (might be a fair fight)
Personal head canon: Metro and Kismet have an arbitrated bet (to be decided after combat finals) going as to whether on average the Vindicators could have beaten Metro and Valravn in their bank heist scenario. Max and Thomas have taken Mads' side ("Of course! No plan survives unchanged after first contact!"), Pam and Simone vividly remember near-drowning and near-electrocution and side with Korrende ("Regrettably, no.") - and no one cares what Alvin or Pers think.
I'd nominate the Spy Kidz as an interesting match-up: even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Naah, Kismet is the only real load inside their team, so I'd say any of these six fights is an unfair one. As for my option on the 'Suicide by Whateley' (Sweet Philemon, if they try that head-on, they must end up on some Jackass equivalent show)... Raah, how to choose something appropriate when the options are pretty much infinite? Heck, if I have to chose one, I'll go Bad Seeds, they'll rock it, and grade the loosers before teaching them reality.

So, he is very unlikely to have any real idea of Whateley is. He might have been told that it's a school for mutants, but being, well, insane, he probably didn't think it would be a problem.
Now, for the other four: is there any chance that one of them is a Whateley alumnus?
- Provoker/Crash Test Dummy: no, he's a baseline.
- Crimson Kid: hmmm... maybe? We don't know the nature of his powers; he might be a mutant.
- Mistress Hex/Hexagoner 2.0: possible, but seems unlikely -- she is said to be the apprentice/inheritor of Hexagon, so she doesn't seem to have inherent power of her own
- Heaven: Possible. We know pretty much nothing about her, including what's her bug with Imp. She might be a mutant, or even a Whateley alumna.
So, it all depends on how the Crimson Kid and Heaven react to the line. If they go "What is Whateley Academy?", then they might try a frontal attack. If one of them goes "Oh, no, ANYWHERE but THERE", they might try something more sensible. But we are unlikely to see a reaction shot. Dramatically, I think we next will see them in New Hampshire.

Williams, for all he hates Imp, I don't think is going to encourage any one to commit acts of violence on Campus. He was around for Halloween the previous year, and saw the outcome. (If a full fledged Syndicate attack couldn't succeed, how will the IRS?)
If the Syndicate gets word about their plans, they may let slip about the reward for killing Jade. Of course then hilarity would ensue as Jade did unmentionable things to people trying to hurt her. (As much fun as that would be to read, it is not going to happen.)
My list was trying to find the most embarrassing group to take out the IRS. Any of the competent, high powered students, or even moderate powered, wouldn't have a problem. So no Kimbas, Grunts, Outcasts, Olympians, Capes, Seeds, etc.
Imp is not a fighter, which is part of the problem she has dealing with these yahoos. Hmmm, Sensei Ito, or Tolman should start an evening class for Staff and Faculty... Imp would be really scary if she learned how to fight.
