Not quite. you'll note the power only fills her when she is in contact with the gem. I think that the jewel's previous owner wanted a way to wear it so that they would always have the power if they needed it. But after sending it off it stopped affecting their mind (after withdrawal symptoms) and then they didn't want it back (assuming the withdrawal didn't kill them).

Ah, no, Adam's power is to manifest willing spirits of the dead outside his body, his family's legacy is that he was an experiment by a GOO, which killed the GOO, almost completely, the GOO was absorbed into the force it created, and also made them able to access the memories from their ancestors and anyone who died of unnatural causes (other than age and age related sickness), one of his ancestors had a relation with Circe.Domoviye wrote:

No, though the Astronomy Club connection is right, which makes me think that the authors of Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete may have given her that name as a deliberate reference to Azumanga Daioh (the series these characters are from). I'm not familiar with UMOM, though, so I can't say.
You won't get any hits on Sasaki-sempai's first name, or Kaori's last name (and she was better known in the manga and anime by the nickname Kaorin, anyway), since neither were given in the original series. Kaorin was a minor character in the manga (which was a four-panel joke-a-day series most of the time, hence the highly episodic nature of the anime), but got promoted to a minor but still more important role in the animated series. She was mostly there as comic relief, crushing on the awe-inspiring (but actually painfully shy) Sasaki but lacking the courage to tell her.
Sasaki, for her own part, had a reputation for being a roughhousing troublemaker, simply because she was naturally athletic and taller than all the others - male and female - in the class, but in reality she was a gentle, quiet animal lover who collects plushies and wouldn't hurt a fly. Most of the fans agreed that if she ever noticed Kaorin's interest in her, the sheer cuteness of it would win her heart.
I wasn't thinking of them as being mutants or empowered, but it really wouldn't make a difference.

Hmm. Well, she's gotta go for the Implant route at somepoint, but the problem with that is the need for medical expertise? ... Find a power mimic stone, capture a gadg/dev, or something, and force them to do the implant? And then kill them so it's irreversable?

Well, the stone could replace an organ, most likely the brain, for revivals of the personality in the stone? Or heart, or something, and have baby constantly fighting against the stone for body control or something?
And/Or turns the baby into Catperson. ... Claw out of woman???

Confusion isn't good. ... I mean like having Marni and ... Whatever Miss Powerful's name is, as other hosts for Sam's mind, but that seems random, 'cause it's not like she'll need their powers for the Implantation plot.
... Why are we assuming that the stone needs to stay? Why not have it dissolve into the skin and release on death or something? Other than Whateley Power Gems just don't work like that. ... Which is the only objection, really...
Was going with cat power ideas and got, which I thought was kitties, not puppies:
... Speaking of cats... Bast. ... Wonder how she's related to the Catgirl transform, as she's the goddess of cats...
If you're gonna implant stuff into yourself to keep them from being stolen, Ebidium would prevent Warper grabs... But, it blocks magic... And is super-heavy... So coating the stone in Ebid. and implanting it is just gonna give you, like pressure wounds or something from having a super-heavy object in your body... And in the uterus... Ugh... I can imagine it dropping out in like a fistula, and that's just gross. A fistula is a hole in the body... Don't look it up. Ugh... How's that for squick? ... And trying to one-up on squick is a stupid idea... So let's do something else.... Random WMG... Gonna do a more relevant one next time.
Thinking of other Gem Implants... Doggirl Stone... Perhaps as other eye, if you're gonna stick them in your eyes... Would they even work together or cancel out, or merge, etc... We've still not got enough info on Catgirl Stone's origin to speculate from Reason of Creation to Methods of Operation, and a total inability to speculate about its uniqueness...
... If the stone merges with a body and releases on death... The buyer was a male relative of the previous owner? ... But, that needs that antecedent first...
And turning the user into a stone statue is even more random WMG.

Concentrating totally, he listened to an earpiece cupped to his ear, before with a sigh he took it out of his ear and rolled it back up, inserting it into the case before him. "Time," he instructed shortly, quickly closing the case and stowing it, before standing and pulling another case out onto the small table before him.
"You're sure?" his partner asked, quickly taking his feet off the same table, sitting up and putting the book he was reading away neatly.
"Yes," the first replied, opening the case and starting to assemble an unusual gun. "He's letting his ... amusement show."
"And that means?"
"Well my son, it means we as his servents need to assist him."
"Ahh, assist him?" The young man asked puzzled, freezing still as he looked up at his father in trepidation.
Snapping together the last of the gun, the older man started examining it carefully from all angles, especially taking the time to confirm the action and the trigger. "As you continue in service," the man explained setting his gun down carefully on the table and reaching up to bring down a smaller box. "You will find that the most important task of a servant is to preserve the respect, dignity and magisty of the masters."
"And that means?" the son asked worriedly.
Carefully examining the box in his hand, paying particular attention to the state of its seal and its use-by date, the older man smiled. Revelled in all his glory was the wolf hiding in sheeps clothing. "It means my son," the revealed wolf gloated snapping the seal on the box and removing a dart and carefully inserting it into his gun. "That you will be providing a distraction, while I shall be making sure that our young master enjoys a full nights sleep."
Striding forth, the trank gun professionally nestled is his arms, the wolf-like elder man set off with glee.

"Need" is a strong word, and it's not like this is a cautious, sensible person we're talking about.
Malady wrote: ... Find a power mimic stone, capture a gadg/dev, or something, and force them to do the implant? And then kill them so it's irreversable?
Killing them would only hide the knowledge of the implant, not make it irreversible.
Malady wrote: ... She's a girl, so she could implant it in her womb/uterus. IIRC, those are the same thing? And is the only place in a human body that you could stick something and not compromise anything?
There's no need to place it inside an organ. It's just a gem, and humans are squishy.
My assumption is that she intends to make a permanent band or chain around her abdomen so it can't be removed by mundane means without cutting the titanium, breaking her hips, or just cutting her in half. I'm not sure how such a belt would be disturbing though. Maybe if it was a chastity belt, but why would it be? The only reason I can think of to do that would be as an alibi if the belt gets noticed.
She's a jeweler, so maybe it's going to be an extreme piercing or something. Not as secure as a perma-belt, but possibly less obnoxious depending on implementation.

You mean one like the one that's been on TVtropes for the past four years , and has been listed under Trope Overdosed for three?
EDIT: Four years, not six as I originally wrote, my bad. It was created on 15 April 2012, according to the page history. My understanding is that the reason it was put under 'Literature' was because they hadn't created the 'Web Original' index yet, and someone (I don't know who) was putting WU stuff under several different sections - mainly the 'Web Comics' and 'Fan Fiction' indices - with little rhyme or reason, and without creating a page for the series itself, which led to a huge backlash against the troper in question.

Well not a lot can get that titanium off, it might be easier to amputate. Over time her skin might grow over the titanium because it's cutting into her skinDomoviye wrote:

It only cut her skin going over the ankle bone and grated against the knuckles. Once past those protrusions they fit quite well. So unless she suddenly bulks up, there's no problem with the titanium and the skin.
Also unless they use very high powered rifles, taking her down will be hard. The power required will make ripping the titanium off of her either by breaking the metal or simply pulling them of by breaking some bones easier then cutting her. She's a mystical cat lady, she's pretty tough.

Mostly I am saying it isn't set in stone. Cody has outs, if he can use them.
If you want to use the credits to skip years, Jade should be a junior, since she is getting both Jinn's and Jade's classes on her transcripts. And I think Ayla graduated the semester before she started.

Whateley seems to be against the let people skip grades. Apparently there is one student that is working on his PhD, yet still has not gotten his High School Diploma (prior to 2007 graduation).

Whateley's goal IS a bit different from your normal school... in a normal school the goal is to successfully graduate the students... and they might learn something along the way. (Yes, I'm over-simplifying) Whateley's goal is to educate the Mutant student in safely using their powers and surviving in society. To that end grade-placement is a bit fluid.
That might involve starting them over at Freshman, Holding them over past Senior, repeating grades, Shifting their grades elsewise if appropriate, Locking them in a box until the screaming stops... etc.

Maybe Mary ended up in Poe due to a clerical error? That would be amusing, but I expect it wouldn't last very long.

AU by forcing the movie to appear earlier due to advanced tech boosting the tech so they can make the movie earlier or something? In OTL, IIRC, they had to wait until their tech could do snow graphics, but in Whateley-verse, the tech appears sooner and stuff?
Else pick a different song? Or just do it as a reader-joke... Or give her a bit of small Precog to see the song in the future... Or AU by having the Frozen song be inspired by Icy? Instead of the other way around?

Well, then you don't need to have her get the idea from the movie... Ice Dress and Ice Castle make sense if constant ice makes it easier to use her powers, so surrounding herself in ice is a reasonable option, Ice Castle also makes a defensible structure. and then Ice Golem Magic is just something she discovers or something...??
Servant Magic / Familiar Magic is rare, so that's harder to justify? Give her an offshoot of the Snow Spirit as a servant? ... Ice Demon Child?? Nah...

Blake is not a shifter, at least he is not one currently in my mind (He could be but it adds a twist to several events). I don't know whether or not his power could fit into the canon, i think it does but i am not sure :
Why does it make a difference?
- Contrary to shifter with set forms (at least some that i know of, such as Demona, i don't know if it's a common trait or not), time "flows" for each bodies and the injuries remain. Let's say for example that the female body, that we will call Anna for now, has one of her arm amputated after an accident. When Blake "shifts" to his "Blake form", he has both arms. If he "shifts" bach to Anna, the arm is still missing. (no i don't plan the amputation, i plan much worse for blake, at least psychologically but with a less permanent condition)
- The bodies need to recharche themselves in the "pocket dimension", the Blake form can maintain itself longer than the Anna form. That's one of the reason he "needs" to be Anna from time to time, even if he doesn't understand it for now)
He is not really a MtF (Depending on how you mean it). I intended him to be closer to a stylized representation of a crossdresser. He is still male most of the time, he considers himself as such but from time to time he needs to express his feminine side. He enjoys his female form mainly because she is in fact closer to his original body than his new male body, also people are less wary of him as Anna than as Blake. He has/will have period of denial in one way or the other but maybe at the end of the school year he will be able to understand that Anna and Blake are the same person and that he can and needs to be both.
And yes his two "forms" are influenced by the representation he has of his "mother" and his "father". Final point : the two "forms" share the same powerset, but with different ratings.

I thought it was something like that... I guess I read about it before and forgot the specifics.

Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ] [ Click to hide ]He is basicly a warper, and he has access to what i could describe as a pocket dimension in which is stored another body with a different BIT. When he "shifts form" he in fact transfers the bodies from one dimension to the other, and they both share the same consciousness
Well, that's an interesting power. 2 bodies, 1 mind. ... What's his sexuality like? Het in both forms? Or what? He was of the male sex, pre-manifestation, right?
By MtF, I meant physical transformation, like Exemplar MtF, not transgender mentally, pre/post-op stuff.
Why's he not in Poe? I guess he didn't fill out the boxes needed. And wanted to keep things hidden. The Administration's gonna have to sort this out... Handle it like the Reach situation?
If Anna gets pregnant... Well, I guess it wouldn't be a huge problem, just get fed enough and stuff like a normal pregnant woman. Unless the Pocket Dimension does Weird Things...

He was a male before his manifestation. His sexuality is not set in stone yet, i would say bisexual but much more attracted to women than men. (I have some ideas for a romantic interest even if right now she is more an archetype fulfilling a function than a real character ...)Malady wrote: Well, that's an interesting power. 2 bodies, 1 mind. ... For the time being, he is trying to hide it (The power testing at home was not really extensive, and he had already satisfied his urge before going so the deviser test didn't push him to react too much). He is particulary afraid of how his father would react to this part of his manifestation. But he can't keep the charade forever. At home it could work because he was able to go out as Anna without much problem. So he had "Anna time" regularly. At Whateley ? Not so much. So, hypothetically speaking, he could get more and more depressed and angry at himself, he could get into physical altercations with others and then would require counseling. At this point Dr Bellows could discover after several seances the kind of problem blake has and advise him and the administration to move him to poe.Malady wrote: Why's he not in Poe? Of course i would add a twist (but i don't know whether or not the administration would comply, it might be too much of a stretch of the suspension of disbelief):
You can guess that it wouldn't work for very long either. One event will have for consequence to out her (In Poe, not with the general students body) and helps Blake/Anna and the staff to understand the nature of her power (until then they all believed that it was only a shifter power).
I have mapped out the Key points of the school year regarding Blake/Anna character development. I don't think i will ever write a full fledge storyline (even if right now the year is separated in several parts, each one with its specific goal) but i might post other Vignettes. I began with this one because it could convey the main aspects of the character, tease important part of the storyline and sort of stand on its own ...
Parent Day should be an interesting Vignette without being too heavy (even if it means skipping pretty much the first 2 parts of the "story", but the way i imagine it currently, it wouldn't spoil what happened in the previous months except that Blake is in Poe)

@Esar: I love the microscenes you have been writing but the latest one has a bunch of the dialouge run together in the same paragraph. It can be a huge inconvenience to readers. Generally when a new person starts speaking it warrants a new paragraph as a way of showing further distinction. It can be really confusing when a writer keeps a small conversation all in the same paragraph.

Mr. Walter being gay seems a bit too convenient? There's no foreshadowing and stuff? But, that's minor, and it's the start of the story.
I guess the sorta-suicide attempt is either a Noodle Incident, or will be covered in a flashback...
Mr. Walter just revealing Poe like that is a bit strange, considering that there's the Poe secret? Unless
a few uncapitalized 'i'-s, could find with looking for any 'i'-s in-between spaces, with a Match Case feature, like Firefox has, but I dunno what you can do.
A few other typos, but I forget where.
- Esar
-
- Blake is the main character, Chris is Blake's father, John Walter is more or less "just" a family friend.
- Chris/Iron maiden has no idea about Poe's secret, only that John is gay. (Poe's resident can out themselves if they wish to do so.)
- That's one of the problem with me writing the vignettes in no chronological order whatsoever. Basicly this Parent Day would be after the third part of the story. So here i am teasing events that have happened but that i have not written yet. It also means that i haven't really "earned" the reveal about John.

... Okay, this calls a rosary, Buddist prayer bead set... Weird?
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneHundredAndEight
Apologies for being EXTREMELY late to the conversation.
Yes, I did base the original microscene off of the Dive into the Heart from KH. The original had an A/N at the top that said to have a certain video playing while reading the scene.
As for using the wrong term for the Prayer Beads, I will admit that I did wrong. However, the videogame Okami uses the term "Rosary" for the bead-chain weapons and I thought that Rosary was a generic term for prayer beads.
Something that I'm not sure that I got across originally was that the scene happens the night before the Gun Show.
As for how Alex would have used the Beads or the Bells against the imps and cherubs, the beads would either be used as a whip or thrown individually, while the bells would be used as a blunt weapon.
Edit
Malady wrote:
... Well, no one's complaining... So I might expand on the scene? Nah. Don't got the time. Anyone can co-opt it, perhaps give it to another Tao Servant, but give them the Beads or the Bell.
That's not exactly right. The choice of three items isn't about ones affinity to the items themselves, but what they represent. One items represents Attack, another Defense and the third Magic. The first is how the characters stats will favor, while the second is which one they not have as fast a growth in. From the choices Alex made, his offensive skills would grow faster, but he would have a harder time learning and defending himself from the magical arts. Chou seems to have a bit of a weakness to mystical attacks.
As for what I thought would have happened if Alex chose the Beads or the Bells at the Gun Show, for Bells, he becomes the Anti-Necromancer, who slays the unslayable, walks the unwalkable paths and forces the flesh to rot. For the Beads, I was going to go with becoming the Radiant Servant of Amaterasu-no-Okami. All three paths would have lead to him/her meeting Molly, because there has to be SOME benefits to breaking normality (Not that I consider Molly to be a reward for serving. I tried to imply in my original microscene that if one is a Servant of the Balance, their "soul-mate" for lack of a better term is easier to find. I don't like using the term soul-mate though. I prefer the idea that strong relationships, both positive and negative can endure in some way into reincarnations, but it is not binding that the relationships will go the same way. Your Beloved in one life could become your Nemesis in the next and vise-versa. The path between Alex and Molly meeting might take longer to happen, but it WILL happen)
(I am aware that I used the wrong name and pronouns for Chou in the above post. However, since there was no assurance that had Alex taken the Beads or the Bells that Alex would become female. I mean no offense for that.)

I have a minor case of dyslexia. Generally it turns words into something more expected than what is written but occaisioinally I get weirder ones, like changing Drizzt Do'urden to Dritz Dou'dren. You would expect it to change 'Meagan' to 'Megan' but it instead turned to to 'Me again.'
Now other people are reading it as 'Me again' so I've spread my dyslexia. Soon spelling will be a thing of the past, and then we will rule the world!

Big Bob and Larry's mom are in the midst of a nasty divorce; she's already taken her maiden name, so Larry's name was changed to Samuels with mom's and little sis's. The divorce is actually granted, but the terms and such are tied up in lawyers and courts and such. So there aren't any obvious ties from Laura back to Big Bob.

Picture this: our plucky young mutant enters Whateley in 1994, and registers her school/temporary codename as "Fleshlight." After four years with no problems, she registers her definitive/adult codename (which is way harder to change) as "Fleshlight" with the MCO. She then graduates...and promptly discovers that her nice codename has been trademarked as a sex toy.
She is just starting, so she has no established reputation to contest the trademark. The MCO pricks just laughed their asses off when she asked for a codename change...
And, on an even more bizarre note (if that's possible), I just found out that there is in Japan an electronic comic with a team of superheroines that are essentially... moe versions of the products of a sex-toy company named Tenga. And yes, their codenames are the name of Tenga sex toys. They are apparently published by Sony(!).

The "Fleshlight" brand has not existed forever, after all -- Wikipedia tells me that the company was founded in 1995, and they had a patent granted in 1998, but does not mention when the product was actually launched and/or trademarked. Let's assume 1998.

Looks like the name and Trademark date to 1997, or at least the start of that process. The company had been producing "torsos" with removable and washable "parts." When a friend of the owner wanted just a "part," the owner realized his business model was all wrong, because he couldn't give away the whole torso. So he came up with the name, did some redesigning, spent a couple of million, waited four years to recoup that money, then started making money.
In 1998 the owner of Fleshlight had no money or rep to fight it either.

How did no one else think of 'safe search'? Or google kids? There are plenty of ways to search for something without running into 'mature' content.
My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

Any Bad Ideas I have and microscene OC character stories are freely adoptable.
