So... you're thinking the jewel itself had the collar commissioned through controlling the previous possessor?

Not quite. you'll note the power only fills her when she is in contact with the gem. I think that the jewel's previous owner wanted a way to wear it so that they would always have the power if they needed it. But after sending it off it stopped affecting their mind (after withdrawal symptoms) and then they didn't want it back (assuming the withdrawal didn't kill them).

Actually, it isn't, there is a reasonable explanation for that, namely, he is a very unique legacy power/experiment by a GOO

It sounds like Circe and her adopted son were romantically involved. A bit like an inbred family.

Ah, no, Adam's power is to manifest willing spirits of the dead outside his body, his family's legacy is that he was an experiment by a GOO, which killed the GOO, almost completely, the GOO was absorbed into the force it created, and also made them able to access the memories from their ancestors and anyone who died of unnatural causes (other than age and age related sickness), one of his ancestors had a relation with Circe.

So, obviously Lez couple, and recently married, else she'd not be embarrassed/shocked by the question...

Or she'd bi and in one of the stable Triang Relations...

No, though the Astronomy Club connection is right, which makes me think that the authors of Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete may have given her that name as a deliberate reference to Azumanga Daioh (the series these characters are from). I'm not familiar with UMOM, though, so I can't say.

You won't get any hits on Sasaki-sempai's first name, or Kaori's last name (and she was better known in the manga and anime by the nickname Kaorin, anyway), since neither were given in the original series. Kaorin was a minor character in the manga (which was a four-panel joke-a-day series most of the time, hence the highly episodic nature of the anime), but got promoted to a minor but still more important role in the animated series. She was mostly there as comic relief, crushing on the awe-inspiring (but actually painfully shy) Sasaki but lacking the courage to tell her.

Sasaki, for her own part, had a reputation for being a roughhousing troublemaker, simply because she was naturally athletic and taller than all the others - male and female - in the class, but in reality she was a gentle, quiet animal lover who collects plushies and wouldn't hurt a fly. Most of the fans agreed that if she ever noticed Kaorin's interest in her, the sheer cuteness of it would win her heart.

I wasn't thinking of them as being mutants or empowered, but it really wouldn't make a difference.

    Out, damnéd Spot! Bad Doggy!

  • EDIT: @Domo

Hmm. Well, she's gotta go for the Implant route at somepoint, but the problem with that is the need for medical expertise? ... Find a power mimic stone, capture a gadg/dev, or something, and force them to do the implant? And then kill them so it's irreversable?

... She's a girl, so she could implant it in her womb/uterus. IIRC, those are the same thing? And is the only place in a human body that you could stick something and not compromise anything? Well, other than your unborn kids, but if you're gonna stick stones in your uterus for your power, you don't really care about having kids at that point, do you? Unless you want to birth a kid and have then inherit the stone, of course... ... And then body swap like Grandpa Waite for immortality?? Needs to be a daughter though...

    EDIT:

Hmm... Titanium, gotta make sure it can't be removed... ... How are her finances ATM? She fired her worker...

Power Armor or Cyborging? So many, many things you can do with titanium...

Well, the stone could replace an organ, most likely the brain, for revivals of the personality in the stone? Or heart, or something, and have baby constantly fighting against the stone for body control or something?

And/Or turns the baby into Catperson. ... Claw out of woman???

Most likely not consistent: Turns the Baby into Living Stone Catperson Statue.

True. And I should know!

... Do you got anything to contribute to the squick pile? 'Cause I seem to have lost my edge... And not wanting to give away anything if I want to be original, I think...

But really, me worrying about idea theft is a bit silly, given how many I have...

The gem is a cat's eye gem, clearly she is going to rip out her own eye and put the gem in its place.

... I think it was so obvious that I thought about it and then discarded the idea in favor of more interesting options?? Unless it was too obvious or something?

Also, ripping out someone's eye is ... Is that harder, or easier than ripping off the gorget or whatever she's gonna make?

Also, also, I was like: "Sam's gonna eventually get Rose to do the Gem Implantation, or Rose is involved somehow, as she's the Techie of the Domoviye 4. ... Perhaps Rose is the next host for Sam's mind, so she can get Tech knowledge with Gem, and then can do the implantation herself, for a given value of 'herself' ... ... Involve the other 2 as hosts or something?"

OK JarJar, that's about as disturbing as my idea, and as squicky as Malady's uterus, power gem baby thing.

Confusion isn't good. ... I mean like having Marni and ... Whatever Miss Powerful's name is, as other hosts for Sam's mind, but that seems random, 'cause it's not like she'll need their powers for the Implantation plot.

... Why are we assuming that the stone needs to stay? Why not have it dissolve into the skin and release on death or something? Other than Whateley Power Gems just don't work like that. ... Which is the only objection, really...

Was going with cat power ideas and got, which I thought was kitties, not puppies:

Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]

... Speaking of cats... Bast. ... Wonder how she's related to the Catgirl transform, as she's the goddess of cats...

If you're gonna implant stuff into yourself to keep them from being stolen, Ebidium would prevent Warper grabs... But, it blocks magic... And is super-heavy... So coating the stone in Ebid. and implanting it is just gonna give you, like pressure wounds or something from having a super-heavy object in your body... And in the uterus... Ugh... I can imagine it dropping out in like a fistula, and that's just gross. A fistula is a hole in the body... Don't look it up. Ugh... How's that for squick? ... And trying to one-up on squick is a stupid idea... So let's do something else.... Random WMG... Gonna do a more relevant one next time.

Thinking of other Gem Implants... Doggirl Stone... Perhaps as other eye, if you're gonna stick them in your eyes... Would they even work together or cancel out, or merge, etc... We've still not got enough info on Catgirl Stone's origin to speculate from Reason of Creation to Methods of Operation, and a total inability to speculate about its uniqueness...

... If the stone merges with a body and releases on death... The buyer was a male relative of the previous owner? ... But, that needs that antecedent first...

And turning the user into a stone statue is even more random WMG.

Concentrating totally, he listened to an earpiece cupped to his ear, before with a sigh he took it out of his ear and rolled it back up, inserting it into the case before him. "Time," he instructed shortly, quickly closing the case and stowing it, before standing and pulling another case out onto the small table before him.

"You're sure?" his partner asked, quickly taking his feet off the same table, sitting up and putting the book he was reading away neatly.

"Yes," the first replied, opening the case and starting to assemble an unusual gun. "He's letting his ... amusement show."

    "And that means?"

"Well my son, it means we as his servents need to assist him."

"Ahh, assist him?" The young man asked puzzled, freezing still as he looked up at his father in trepidation.

Snapping together the last of the gun, the older man started examining it carefully from all angles, especially taking the time to confirm the action and the trigger. "As you continue in service," the man explained setting his gun down carefully on the table and reaching up to bring down a smaller box. "You will find that the most important task of a servant is to preserve the respect, dignity and magisty of the masters."

"And that means?" the son asked worriedly.

Carefully examining the box in his hand, paying particular attention to the state of its seal and its use-by date, the older man smiled. Revelled in all his glory was the wolf hiding in sheeps clothing. "It means my son," the revealed wolf gloated snapping the seal on the box and removing a dart and carefully inserting it into his gun. "That you will be providing a distraction, while I shall be making sure that our young master enjoys a full nights sleep."

Striding forth, the trank gun professionally nestled is his arms, the wolf-like elder man set off with glee.

Killing them would only hide the knowledge of the implant, not make it irreversible.

There's no need to place it inside an organ. It's just a gem, and humans are squishy.

My assumption is that she intends to make a permanent band or chain around her abdomen so it can't be removed by mundane means without cutting the titanium, breaking her hips, or just cutting her in half. I'm not sure how such a belt would be disturbing though. Maybe if it was a chastity belt, but why would it be? The only reason I can think of to do that would be as an alibi if the belt gets noticed.

She's a jeweler, so maybe it's going to be an extreme piercing or something. Not as secure as a perma-belt, but possibly less obnoxious depending on implementation.

True, but self-preservation sort of demands some sort of medical expertise?

I was briefly inspired to write an ER scene around this premise, but then I remember how entertainingly/horrifyingly common those sorts of injuries are in real life ERs, and I decided against it.

Doesn't she just have speed boost? ... Have we seen any internal ENG with only speed/strength?

And she has to purposely activate her power? Then again, high stress sitch = power incont, perhaps.

She gets enhanced speed, strength, agility, reaction time and senses. Remember she ripped the door off of her room by accident and tossed a basketball about a block right into a garbage can. That's countered by only having a small internal battery.
And yes, there are internal ENG who are purely physical, speedsters for one.

  • The phenomenon of penile damage from vaginal muscle constriction is mentioned in canon (in SLPB), so it is entirely possible.

You mean one like the one that's been on TVtropes for the past four years , and has been listed under Trope Overdosed for three?

EDIT: Four years, not six as I originally wrote, my bad. It was created on 15 April 2012, according to the page history. My understanding is that the reason it was put under 'Literature' was because they hadn't created the 'Web Original' index yet, and someone (I don't know who) was putting WU stuff under several different sections - mainly the 'Web Comics' and 'Fan Fiction' indices - with little rhyme or reason, and without creating a page for the series itself, which led to a huge backlash against the troper in question.

Oh, and as for the Drinking Game page, mea culpa. :-p OTGH, I don't know who it was that was potholing the names of every WU character to the entry for 'Mary Sue' in every trope page that linked to the series page, but most of those have been fixed, anyway.

... I knew I should have clarified... I meant for Whateley Fanfics. Like Tink, and Timeout and so on. We don't even have one for Tansy Running High, and that's like, one of the ones that isn't on this site. It's not even part of my Sig archives. I had to make a personal copy with:

    fanfictiondownloader.net/

    www.fanfiction.net/s/8722425/1/Tansy-Running-High

I saw you in the History... :)

Okay, TRH might have been in the old forums? Can't remember... Maybe being hyperbolic...

  • I dunno... there's a lot of Whateley-bashing on TVtropes already (I mentioned the 'Mary Sue' thing, though I was editing the post when you posted so I don't know if you saw that), adding the tropes for WU fanfic would probably burn whatever good will we still have there.

I mean, if you think it's worth it, sure, but I would post it in the 'Fan Fiction' sections of the trope pages, rather than with the rest of the series. Or did you mean a separate subordinate page for WU fanfic, attached to the main series page?

Yeah, I heard about the historical bashing.

Well, Headscratchers had been unedited in about a year before I decided to clarify that PhoenixS was working on Hank.

    YMMV's a bit infrequent...

Should we move this to its own thread?

Fridge has been dead for almost 2 years...

... Have you seen any evidence for Whateley-bashing recently?

...I'm on a works-making kick due to remembering There's No Such Thing As Notability, and felt like adding things, that are either historical, or relatively popular in some manner. Like Baum's The Master Key , and Tanya Grotter .

... And the Whateley-verse reviews are 4+ years out of date... And they aren't linked from the main article...

... Is Whateley larger than Global Guardians PBEM Universe??

The stone is on the left hand side just under the ribs. And she only has brands in the shape of runes.
Also its Mithril. She used up the whole supply and its like a millimeter thick, in five smallish runes.

  • @Schol-R-LEA - So, presumably that boy's gonna live, right? Get him to Doyle quickly, and heal him up... Note that while the Don got an AssShove, he had EX-4 to help him survive... Meaning ~Regen-2...

And DVDs are SHARP ... Err... Sharp. ... So I'd think that in Canon, they wouldn't be so callous... But, hey, this is crack fic, have sadism if you want, I guess?

If I/we are going to make Works pages for Whateley Fanfics... We need names... I guess the Domoverse is everything that involves Tink and stuff? Like in the Old Forum? And the current 4 line series is Name Pending? Lol.

Well, I've started the page... tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/Domoverse

I need a way to describe the 'verse as a whole, as all it's got right now is a name, links to your profiles, story links, and Cyberpath for Glitch...

And I need to remember to Crosslink back from Tropes pages...

You could have a Creator page under your real name and promote your book there... Just a thought. ... ... How far did the notice on Published writers get, anyway? Would the Cabal (TINCC) get more notice for their writings via pages there?? But, hey, it's not like writing's their job... Perhaps you might want to put your book there, Domo?

Self: Why are you so focused on advertising, anyway?? Weird.

    whateleyacademy.net/index.php/published

    ***

Trying to find a trope for that envious bigot of Light in the Dark ... And, there's the Blind Test trope, right? The handwavy thing... Where are you... You don't exist. Joy. ... And no SugarRush trope either?

No Periods, Period... I think is averted somewhere... ... Tink doesn't have periods... I think... That raises (many) questions...

Well not a lot can get that titanium off, it might be easier to amputate. Over time her skin might grow over the titanium because it's cutting into her skin

It only cut her skin going over the ankle bone and grated against the knuckles. Once past those protrusions they fit quite well. So unless she suddenly bulks up, there's no problem with the titanium and the skin.
Also unless they use very high powered rifles, taking her down will be hard. The power required will make ripping the titanium off of her either by breaking the metal or simply pulling them of by breaking some bones easier then cutting her. She's a mystical cat lady, she's pretty tough.

@Sir Lee; I honestly took a thesaurus, looked up the MLP characters names and got the ones I used. I didn't use the full name I came up with for Pikie Pie's doppelganger; Superfluous Digit Three Point One Four Five.

@Bek; God I hope not. I also hope Wondercute never runs into them.

Thank you, I needed a good laugh/groan right now. Now you just need to have two law officers from their world - I'm thinking 'Concord' and 'Crepuscular Gleam' - to show up to save the day.

He inadvertently made a Sorcerer's Contract with Palantir, agreeing to make all three of them Alphas the next year (not expecting to have to uphold the promise, as was supposed to have graduated by then) in exchange for help finding Ms. Grimes' office in the Mystic Arts department.

  • Isn't there a thing that says that Sorcerer's Contracts make themselves able to be fulfilled, when Nacht confronts Marzena or whatever her name is.

    Ah. Yes. Here whateleyacademy.net/index.php/original-t...lent-nacht-chapter-5 :

But once it's sealed, the very Threads of Fate itself will work to enforce the wording of the pact, in the most effective way possible.

If you reread what Wyatt said, you will realize that it is highly unlikely to happen.

Murphy's Rules wrote: “Irene,” he said finally in his most reasonable tone. “I’m afraid the rules of the club don’t let me allow in Freshmen, let alone Sub-Freshmen. But, I tell you what. For you three, I’ll make an exception. Come to the Rush Party when you’re all Freshmen and come see me and I’ll pin you in myself. How’s that?”

    Emphasis mine.

The problem is that they all won't be Freshman, one is in 7th grade, and the others are in 8th.

Hmm... How much nudging can those Threads of Fate apply?? Hmm... ... Can a Sorcerer's Contract be annulled by a dearth of magical power? Or by fighting the Bastard or something? So Kodiak doesn't have to stay a 3rd year? Or he issues orders for the TLW to be added to the Alphas for the next year, and his Contract is fulfilled that way?

Oh, wait. You mean that the Contract is invalid. Oh.

Yep the contract is only valid if all three are Freshmen for the Rush Party. So unless two are held back, or the other promoted early, all three won't be Freshmen for the party.

  • And Cody shouldn't be there either because he should've graduated. But all of a sudden he has repeat the year through no fault of his own. And you have trouble believing that somehow they have enough credits to skip a year?

You think that's air you're breathing?

I'm having a hard time believing that the TLW have the required knowledge to skip a year...

Uhh... Nevermind? Abracadabra has the creds to take Winter Term's "Special Topics in Mathematics: Thaumaturgy, Numerology and Mystic Algebra" So that means she... something... We don't know the reqs for that course...

And they're at Whateley, instead of being tutored by some city mages for some reason. Self: Well, why do you think that is? Hmm? Perhaps they're actually pretty smart?

Mostly I am saying it isn't set in stone. Cody has outs, if he can use them.

If you want to use the credits to skip years, Jade should be a junior, since she is getting both Jinn's and Jade's classes on her transcripts. And I think Ayla graduated the semester before she started. :P Billie and Nikki both "lost" grades Funny the STAR League Jr. kids didn't.

Whateley seems to be against the let people skip grades. Apparently there is one student that is working on his PhD, yet still has not gotten his High School Diploma (prior to 2007 graduation).

Whateley's goal IS a bit different from your normal school... in a normal school the goal is to successfully graduate the students... and they might learn something along the way. (Yes, I'm over-simplifying) Whateley's goal is to educate the Mutant student in safely using their powers and surviving in society. To that end grade-placement is a bit fluid.

That might involve starting them over at Freshman, Holding them over past Senior, repeating grades, Shifting their grades elsewise if appropriate, Locking them in a box until the screaming stops... etc.

  • Seems we have a summer lull all-around the site - overall traffic is down, so comments are sparse. People need to enjoy their time off, vacations, drunken orgies, or whatever else they do to unwind during the summer. When y'all get back, I know y'all will read and enjoy (or not) - and comment. Seems hard to keep all y'all from commenting :) When you're here, that is.

Scrounged together more money than I should have and upgraded my computer, which means it's now powerful enough to handle Fallout 4. So that has eaten a possibly unhealthy amount of my time over the last couple weeks. It's probably a good thing I don't really have a data plan, or I might also be trying out Pokemon Go right now...

Funny thing you should mention that. My son's Eagle Project is a Pokemon Go site, with info about it on the screen.

But - I don't see the point of getting outside to wander around looking at your cell phone and running into people, falling off curbs, stepping in doggie-doo, etc, etc. Of course, I'm an old fart who had to go outside and actually, you know, PLAY - because we didn't have any fancy electronic toys!

  • Well, I can't use Gateway as a portal gun, so that idea's out... ... There's so many Scenes that could be expanded... But, most likely the writers got their own ideas and stuff their they're working on.

Domoviye's got that big story... A Tink reboot-continuation-thing... And whatever else he's got going on... And he might be sick again or something...

"Threadkill" sounds so computery to me, like computational threads... And I finished Transistor months ago... ... Could rethink that Transistor Insert... Giant Techno-swords isn't impossible in Whateley...

Indeed they are MLP:FiM inspired. I think though I need to do some tweaking on them if I use them for real in a story. I had wanted to make the Alicorn equivalent stand out more and thus changed up the horn design, and now I'm rethinking it.

No, I mean that I presumed that as of your snip, FiM hadn't been made yet, and the Alien Ponies incident inspires the creation of FiM. Unless it was said that FiM has been made by that time...?

No, I mean that I presumed that as of your snip, FiM hadn't been made yet, and the Alien Ponies incident inspires the creation of FiM. Unless it was said that FiM has been made by that time...?

Oh, oh! No, these snippets are set after FiM has been released. I think I dropped a blink and you miss it reference in the second entry. But then again I am old enough to have watched since Gen 1 Ponies.

That was great, good thing it wasn't this song. That would probably send the wrong message, although the bullies might flee faster.

As for the Kara ficlet... I took the idea of the old B-movie the Nude Bomb and gave it a Whateley twist Kind of thinking it's a sim run not a real event though.

Hmm... is that clawed ice woman spirit, the Yuki-Onna from Polk Kitsune's Shade 2: Rebirth? Or is it just similar? Icy claws being a typical use of ice powers and so on?

Just something similar. i wasn't really thinking of any one ice spirit, though I was thinking of Nacht's Christmas tales about the origins or Santa, the Wild Hunt and Norse winters while writing her.

And fun 2nd micro-scene, figures some pervert would get the idea to make a gas to dissolve clothing at Whateley sooner or later.

  • Before anyone asks, I'm not sure yet why neither Marcie nor Malaya came in earlier for the Poe orientation. The most obvious answer would be that they didn't out themselves in their applications, and may not even realize their own orientations yet, but that would be boring... and if anyone else wants to take a stab at it, go ahead.

Ethan, OTOH, figured things out earlier in this world, so he's already settled into Poe, as have Carla and Billie. Ruth is a Junior, but has the new Freshman RA room in Poe.

I'm not sure about Mike, because I suspect that answering "I fucked your Mom and your Dad" on that part of the application would probably not be taken seriously.

Maybe Mary ended up in Poe due to a clerical error? That would be amusing, but I expect it wouldn't last very long.

I'm thinking Sal would be a PK brick, while Marcie is either a manifestor or a warper-speedster (though presumably Robin is a speedster, so maybe just the former for Marcie; but Robin would probably be a Senior, so I dunno).

AU by forcing the movie to appear earlier due to advanced tech boosting the tech so they can make the movie earlier or something? In OTL, IIRC, they had to wait until their tech could do snow graphics, but in Whateley-verse, the tech appears sooner and stuff?

Else pick a different song? Or just do it as a reader-joke... Or give her a bit of small Precog to see the song in the future... Or AU by having the Frozen song be inspired by Icy? Instead of the other way around?

Well, then you don't need to have her get the idea from the movie... Ice Dress and Ice Castle make sense if constant ice makes it easier to use her powers, so surrounding herself in ice is a reasonable option, Ice Castle also makes a defensible structure. and then Ice Golem Magic is just something she discovers or something...??

Servant Magic / Familiar Magic is rare, so that's harder to justify? Give her an offshoot of the Snow Spirit as a servant? ... Ice Demon Child?? Nah...

  • Yeah, there's no need for it to be inspired by the movie. I can guaran-fucking-tee you that even if I hadn't seen Frozen, building an ice castle would be one of the first things I'd do upon gaining ice powers. Winter was always my favorite season as a kid because it was the only season I could build snow forts (the sledding and Christmas didn't hurt things either). Actual ice palaces have been built in real life as well, long before Frozen.

That said, I'm a much bigger fan of the parody Let 'em Burn than I am of Let It Go, despite hating heat:

  • He's another Walkyverse/ Dumbiverse character. He was originally Danny's roommate in Roomies, and was the first one shown being abducted by the Purple Aliens. He was later forced to join SEMME, with some absurd cover story about going to Africa with Joyce.

In Dumbing of Age (which resets all the characters from the Walkyverse series as college students, including those from Shortpacked!, with no superpowers or aliens), he's Danny's roommate again, and was the one who warned Danny that Dorothy was about to break up with him.

  • I hadn't considered the manifestor angle before, though I would think that if anything, he'd manifest condoms.

The devisor angle is more related to IW!Joe, who studied engineering and became a starship designer. And built UltraCar, back before UltraCar became Carla and got a job at Shortpacked Toys.

  • @Esar: Well, that was intriguingly strange. A MtF shifter, that activates with a Devisor trait. I guess "he" now looks like his mom? And the other form is similar to his dad?

Using « » as what would normally be italics or quotation marks is a new one...

So is the having a space before end-punctuating with a '?'... But could be program messups or something?

And here I thought "personal time" would be a date with Rosie Palms... Interesting twist!

There's a few typos, but easily ignorable.

  • Thanks Malady, i have fixed everything ... i think. I confess : i am french, so in fact « » are "our" quotation marks. I admit, i didn't even know that those were not the same in english and in french (thanks wikipedia). (Also when we are writing dialogues we rather use - in succession for each character rather than quoting marks at each reply, but i tried to adapt).

Blake is not a shifter, at least he is not one currently in my mind (He could be but it adds a twist to several events). I don't know whether or not his power could fit into the canon, i think it does but i am not sure :
Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]

He is not really a MtF (Depending on how you mean it). I intended him to be closer to a stylized representation of a crossdresser. He is still male most of the time, he considers himself as such but from time to time he needs to express his feminine side. He enjoys his female form mainly because she is in fact closer to his original body than his new male body, also people are less wary of him as Anna than as Blake. He has/will have period of denial in one way or the other but maybe at the end of the school year he will be able to understand that Anna and Blake are the same person and that he can and needs to be both.

And yes his two "forms" are influenced by the representation he has of his "mother" and his "father". Final point : the two "forms" share the same powerset, but with different ratings.

Well, that's an interesting power. 2 bodies, 1 mind. ... What's his sexuality like? Het in both forms? Or what? He was of the male sex, pre-manifestation, right?

By MtF, I meant physical transformation, like Exemplar MtF, not transgender mentally, pre/post-op stuff.

Why's he not in Poe? I guess he didn't fill out the boxes needed. And wanted to keep things hidden. The Administration's gonna have to sort this out... Handle it like the Reach situation?

If Anna gets pregnant... Well, I guess it wouldn't be a huge problem, just get fed enough and stuff like a normal pregnant woman. Unless the Pocket Dimension does Weird Things...

He was a male before his manifestation. His sexuality is not set in stone yet, i would say bisexual but much more attracted to women than men. (I have some ideas for a romantic interest even if right now she is more an archetype fulfilling a function than a real character ...)

Malady wrote: Why's he not in Poe? I guess he didn't fill out the boxes needed. And wanted to keep things hidden. The Administration's gonna have to sort this out... Handle it like the Reach situation?

For the time being, he is trying to hide it (The power testing at home was not really extensive, and he had already satisfied his urge before going so the deviser test didn't push him to react too much). He is particulary afraid of how his father would react to this part of his manifestation. But he can't keep the charade forever. At home it could work because he was able to go out as Anna without much problem. So he had "Anna time" regularly. At Whateley ? Not so much. So, hypothetically speaking, he could get more and more depressed and angry at himself, he could get into physical altercations with others and then would require counseling. At this point Dr Bellows could discover after several seances the kind of problem blake has and advise him and the administration to move him to poe.

Of course i would add a twist (but i don't know whether or not the administration would comply, it might be too much of a stretch of the suspension of disbelief):
Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]

I have mapped out the Key points of the school year regarding Blake/Anna character development. I don't think i will ever write a full fledge storyline (even if right now the year is separated in several parts, each one with its specific goal) but i might post other Vignettes. I began with this one because it could convey the main aspects of the character, tease important part of the storyline and sort of stand on its own ...

Parent Day should be an interesting Vignette without being too heavy (even if it means skipping pretty much the first 2 parts of the "story", but the way i imagine it currently, it wouldn't spoil what happened in the previous months except that Blake is in Poe)

Not 100% happy with Amber, I was channeling to much Harley Quinn into her. I think I need to go more Joker...

Also, 60% tempted to make Mister Cool and Amber a threesome as a spoof on how in the comics Harley has Poison Ivy on the side. I just don't wanna go the obvious plant woman path.

So New horse breed of Ani-men. You really don't wanna know what bit of news I got the idea from.

What, it WASN'T a play on MLP?

Minor point: as written, your text implies that Equus ferus caballus is the specific designation of the miniature horse. In fact, Equus ferus caballus is any domesticated horse no matter the size, from ponies to Clydesdales.

  • Okay so I'm doing a lot of things I hate right now. Negatively commenting, targeted commenting, and complaining about a pet peeve on an open forum but I feel it is warranted so here goes.

@Esar: I love the microscenes you have been writing but the latest one has a bunch of the dialouge run together in the same paragraph. It can be a huge inconvenience to readers. Generally when a new person starts speaking it warrants a new paragraph as a way of showing further distinction. It can be really confusing when a writer keeps a small conversation all in the same paragraph.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • @Jarjaross : Dont feel bad about making valid and constructive criticism. I post those vignettes expecting and hoping for feedbacks on both the content and the form. You are right, i understand that i should apply more care to the format of my dialogues. The way the last vignette has been written can and does make it harder for the reader to follow the flow of the conversation. I will keep this in mind, those can be awkward enough as they are without having to deal with bad formatting on top of that.

Edit: It should be at least somewhat better now.

Mr. Walter being gay seems a bit too convenient? There's no foreshadowing and stuff? But, that's minor, and it's the start of the story.

I guess the sorta-suicide attempt is either a Noodle Incident, or will be covered in a flashback...

Mr. Walter just revealing Poe like that is a bit strange, considering that there's the Poe secret? Unless Chris Blake has been cleared to know the secret or something...

  • To clarify :

    - Blake is the main character, Chris is Blake's father, John Walter is more or less "just" a family friend.
    - Chris/Iron maiden has no idea about Poe's secret, only that John is gay. (Poe's resident can out themselves if they wish to do so.)
    - That's one of the problem with me writing the vignettes in no chronological order whatsoever. Basicly this Parent Day would be after the third part of the story. So here i am teasing events that have happened but that i have not written yet. It also means that i haven't really "earned" the reveal about John.

Apologies for being EXTREMELY late to the conversation.

Yes, I did base the original microscene off of the Dive into the Heart from KH. The original had an A/N at the top that said to have a certain video playing while reading the scene.

As for using the wrong term for the Prayer Beads, I will admit that I did wrong. However, the videogame Okami uses the term "Rosary" for the bead-chain weapons and I thought that Rosary was a generic term for prayer beads.

Something that I'm not sure that I got across originally was that the scene happens the night before the Gun Show.

As for how Alex would have used the Beads or the Bells against the imps and cherubs, the beads would either be used as a whip or thrown individually, while the bells would be used as a blunt weapon.

    Edit

    Malady wrote:
... Well, no one's complaining... So I might expand on the scene? Nah. Don't got the time. Anyone can co-opt it, perhaps give it to another Tao Servant, but give them the Beads or the Bell.

That's not exactly right. The choice of three items isn't about ones affinity to the items themselves, but what they represent. One items represents Attack, another Defense and the third Magic. The first is how the characters stats will favor, while the second is which one they not have as fast a growth in. From the choices Alex made, his offensive skills would grow faster, but he would have a harder time learning and defending himself from the magical arts. Chou seems to have a bit of a weakness to mystical attacks.

As for what I thought would have happened if Alex chose the Beads or the Bells at the Gun Show, for Bells, he becomes the Anti-Necromancer, who slays the unslayable, walks the unwalkable paths and forces the flesh to rot. For the Beads, I was going to go with becoming the Radiant Servant of Amaterasu-no-Okami. All three paths would have lead to him/her meeting Molly, because there has to be SOME benefits to breaking normality (Not that I consider Molly to be a reward for serving. I tried to imply in my original microscene that if one is a Servant of the Balance, their "soul-mate" for lack of a better term is easier to find. I don't like using the term soul-mate though. I prefer the idea that strong relationships, both positive and negative can endure in some way into reincarnations, but it is not binding that the relationships will go the same way. Your Beloved in one life could become your Nemesis in the next and vise-versa. The path between Alex and Molly meeting might take longer to happen, but it WILL happen)

(I am aware that I used the wrong name and pronouns for Chou in the above post. However, since there was no assurance that had Alex taken the Beads or the Bells that Alex would become female. I mean no offense for that.)

  • Hmmm... I think the first point, obviously, is which form she should take. Ice-bat-demons, Ice-bird-demon or Ice-tiger-demon? Personally, I don't see either of the three animals as being particularly related to the ice theme. In particular, while a snow owl or a Siberian tiger might evoke the necessary cold association, bats... don't. But white birds traditionally bring angelic associations, not demonic. So... by elimination, I think I would go with the Siberian tiger. But there are other animals with stronger associations with cold: wolf and bear, to start with. And both have done their share of "evil" associations.

Second... all three descriptions need some proofing:
    v.1: "...feathers of fur..." (????)
v.2: "where made of..." (should be "were")
v.3: "...as her incisors elongating." (should be "elongated"). Also, another instance of "where" used instead of "were".

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Also, the comma in the first sentence after beauty is extraneous.

  • Related to Cryptic's Ponies story, and my own little riff on that, have an epileptic tree: The next scene will involve Tennyo, who will tell them to wait for the experts to arrive. A few minutes later, Sara will show up, followed by Josie Gilman with Dr Amazing in tow (Tennyo had to call the others, and explain the situation to Messing before he agreed to go, hence the delay). They all agree that the Ponies aren't from Earth; Tennyo and Josie even say they know who they are, or at least who their species is.

  • @Sir Lee; The first two where my answers to "What would a demon from the coldest place in Hell look like?" The first is a more traditional look, while the second is semi based on how a Zephyr/wind elemental are described in myth, just with a frosty twist as one of the spirits in her is a rather nasty winter storm spirit.

The ice tiger... I blame that one on a drop in ,my blood- caffeine levels. And cause I like cat girls.

  • It could be worse. Girl One, in Alan Moore's Top Ten, went around naked as a matter of course -- her nakedness was camouflaged by the fact that she had a color-changing skin which was always showing fast-changing psychedelic patterns, making it hard to discern any details. Everybody assumed that she had a psychedelic costume.

If Jericho finds out about the character, he will probably want to copy her psychedelic "costume."

I have a minor case of dyslexia. Generally it turns words into something more expected than what is written but occaisioinally I get weirder ones, like changing Drizzt Do'urden to Dritz Dou'dren. You would expect it to change 'Meagan' to 'Megan' but it instead turned to to 'Me again.'

Now other people are reading it as 'Me again' so I've spread my dyslexia. Soon spelling will be a thing of the past, and then we will rule the world!

Most ecto users probably have some real clothes, but would probably use it to spice up their wardrobe and keep costs down. With Adam however his entire body is covered in ectoplasm, so clothes would be kind of redundant.

Did Mouser give Witch's Daughter 'The Talk', or at least 'A Talk', right after being caught with her mom in flagrante delicto??

I thought it might be Witch Queen, but she's not married. Witch-what? Witchfire? Witchweed??

She only kissed the husband, he apparently turned her down which was why she said he was very loyal.

Possibly with Controller Devisor being from a lower year 'cause he doesn't know about Aquerna being a Squirrel Controller.

Cool having Controller Devisor freak out over it and Anna just being, 'Just another day at Whateley...'

I wouldn't be surprised if over the years the local population of pigeons has become SIGNIFICANTLY less then it is in most places, between target practice, people who need live food but the size of the creature doesn't matter so much, feline familiars, feline mutants, people hunting them down to try and take out spy drones that mimic pigeons... Oh and lets not forget, those that would completely eviscerate them because they don't respect their sleep schedule, devisors, gadgeteers and wizards that put stuff in the bird feeder to turn them into fireworks without the fire, and erm "Bebe guns"

My guess is closer to Gen 1 than Gen 2, the little bit of H1 we see in gen 2, isn't as substantial as it was 10 years prior, ordinary people have no problems standing up to them, and people CHEER when they do. That said according to the following from the Gen 2 announcement, they are certainly still prevalent.

"Laura Samuels, Cerulea: What do you do when you manifest as a mutant, you start making lots of unusual gadgets and devises, your skin turns light blue, your hair turns royal blue, you change into a cute girl, you get kicked out of your hoity toity prep school, and your father all but disowns you because he owns a restaurant chain popular with Humanity First? If you're Larry Thorson, you move in with your mom, change your name to Laura Samuels, and pack yourself off to Whateley Academy. Surely a school for mutants has got to be calmer than the chaos of the preceding year, right?"

Thanks. Shortly after reading your idea it all came to me. I seem to enjoy tormenting characters by taking thm on insane flights.

Bek that was a great story.

  • Like most things, there are regional nuances. A business owner who refuses service to gays in San Francisco will go bankrupt very soon. One who does the same in the Bible Belt might be cheered. So, while H1! as a whole might be in a descending spiral over most of the country, there are probably places where they are still quite mainstream.

Big Bob probably threw some cash at Larry to get the name change, can't be associated with that mutant when a lot of your business supports H1!

Big Bob and Larry's mom are in the midst of a nasty divorce; she's already taken her maiden name, so Larry's name was changed to Samuels with mom's and little sis's. The divorce is actually granted, but the terms and such are tied up in lawyers and courts and such. So there aren't any obvious ties from Laura back to Big Bob.

  • Nah, supers.com has by far the better database, it covers both official and 'unregistered but claimed' names. You know, the ones the MCO would let you have, but you'd get that little 'talk' in a dark alley if you use.

  • ...you know, thinking about it, the reverse situation might work as a plot point, too. The "Fleshlight" brand has not existed forever, after all -- Wikipedia tells me that the company was founded in 1995, and they had a patent granted in 1998, but does not mention when the product was actually launched and/or trademarked. Let's assume 1998.

Picture this: our plucky young mutant enters Whateley in 1994, and registers her school/temporary codename as "Fleshlight." After four years with no problems, she registers her definitive/adult codename (which is way harder to change) as "Fleshlight" with the MCO. She then graduates...and promptly discovers that her nice codename has been trademarked as a sex toy.

She is just starting, so she has no established reputation to contest the trademark. The MCO pricks just laughed their asses off when she asked for a codename change...

And, on an even more bizarre note (if that's possible), I just found out that there is in Japan an electronic comic with a team of superheroines that are essentially... moe versions of the products of a sex-toy company named Tenga. And yes, their codenames are the name of Tenga sex toys. They are apparently published by Sony(!).

Looks like the name and Trademark date to 1997, or at least the start of that process. The company had been producing "torsos" with removable and washable "parts." When a friend of the owner wanted just a "part," the owner realized his business model was all wrong, because he couldn't give away the whole torso. So he came up with the name, did some redesigning, spent a couple of million, waited four years to recoup that money, then started making money.

In 1998 the owner of Fleshlight had no money or rep to fight it either.

How did no one else think of 'safe search'? Or google kids? There are plenty of ways to search for something without running into 'mature' content.
