And poor Amber - being Amazi-Girl won't get her much at Whateley, beyond some pokes for the corny codename. Oh, and make sure that Billie and Ruth don't meet any Dylans or they'll never be sober - I doubt either of them would go for any exotic Devisor drugs from Le Carnival, but any chance for alcohol is likely to be too much for them to pass up.
Now I'm trying to figure out which courses Jason, Penny, Daisy, and Galasso would be teaching. Or maybe Galasso would make more sense as the manager of the power plant, I'm not sure - he's always wanted power, after all

Oh, and we should totes hook Daisy up with Songbird.
I'm not really up to writing it, sadly. Maybe we can convince Willis to read enough WA that he'd be willing to write it himself?
As for Joe's comment about Harvey, we all know the only thing up Bunny's alley is Nikki's... shutting up now.

Whoops. ... I meant, for his Championship Part II AU of Whateley, if the events relayed by his Micro Scene were the... events that happened to his version of Sunburst. ... I am not even thinking that such events are what happened in the Canon Cabal Official Whateley-verse.
And yes. I remember the long discussions on the meaning of the word 'canon'. ... Although I'd be hard-pressed for their precise location...
So, what word should I use for fanfic authors' timelines? I guess something like "Schol-R-LEA-verse canon"?
I'm thinking 'Fanon', but that's also used for what the fans think are canon, or as TvTropes Laconic says: "Fan Wank that's accepted by a fandom as Canon."

Going forward, I get the feeling Sunburst would be one of the few Superhero's willing to mentor a Superhero version of Jadis. I wonder what a superhero team consisting of Sunburst, Natch and Jadis would be like?

Speaking of which, does letting Nacht stare at prisoners count as coercing a confession?

It would be hard to argue Natch isn't doing something to them when you have a video of her just staring and smiling and super-hardened criminals start peeing their pants, literally, and spilling their guts.
Defence attorneys are going to at least try to get it dismissed as evidence.

Relative to that particular fanfic, sure. It isn't actual canon, of course, perhaps we could call such things 'deuterocanon' I suppose.Malady wrote: @Schol-R-LEA

As for Dr. Sagittarius, if you can figure out a justification for them still being alive after more than half a century, feel free to use them.

Interesting! I wonder which birthday this is... Do we even know when Nacht's birthday is?
Formatting idea:
New Paragraph starting when a new person speaks and ending when you finish describing their way of speaking?
"Natch" x3+ -> "Nacht"
"Of course the business suited" -> "Of course, the business-suited"?
"With a silent nod the business" -> "With a silent nod, the business"
"Frowning the" -> "Frowning, the"

Forget us - I'd be surprised if Nacht knew when her birthday was. It doesn't seem like the type of detail that "Mother Dearest" would have concerned herself with.Malady wrote: @Phoenix Spiritus:

The character Probably was created for another story (where she had much better control over her powers and much more outgoing) about 2 years ago as a side character.
I did watch the second Sherlock Holmes movie, but it was in Chinese at the time. And I don't think it had any real influence on her.

I guess his codename is "Probably"?
Reminds me of Worm's Dinah Alcott.

And yeah I noticed the similarity about a year after writing her up. But they're pretty different overall. You can ask her about scenario's all you want, she won't be able to answer anything that isn't directly affecting her or in her immediately vicinity. She also has a LOT less control in what percentages she sees, and more control in changing the outcomes.

Miss Powerful is just a fun little character I came up with. I was thinking of making a series of short little events concerning her adventures. And running around with a car over her head to test out her strength seemed par for the course.

I think Sam should be more surprised that Jade had plans for this, or at least re-think her opinion of Jade, and be something like sad that the Wondercute Break Scenario could have been avoided if they had known about Jade's plans or something?
"Something like sad" 'cause sadness is not the emotion I'm talking about. I just think that the emotion I have no name for is something like Sadness, but it might not be.
It's the feeling brought on by ThisAllCouldHaveBeenAvoided.
OH! "Apparently things were well in hand here." ... That's not from Sam's POV? Is it narrator sarcasm-thing? 'Cause that's just awesome!

None of this is an excuse just an explanation. I accept the consequences of my shoddy workmanship.
@Malady: I didn't represent the time scale very well, after finding Jade the entire sequence takes less than 15 seconds. Sam was supposed to be speechless.
@Valentine: Jade may be stable but she doesn't appear to be to those around her or the Whateley staff. Also she is functionally the least like a normal teenager in the group. She is a tactical genius who acts like a ten year old girl.

When I get ideas, if I'm out, I load up my email program (Outlook) and send an email to myself. Else I make a text file and put the idea in there for later. But, if your email costs money, then you can't do that...
Get a calendar program and make an alert in the near-future with your idea in there, so you get notified?
Anyone got any other tips?
EDIT: It's not like you can't clean it up.

I agree fully that she doesn't appear stable, but once you understand her worldview, it becomes apparent. She acts like a 10 year old girl, except when she is acting as cold blooded nut, and she switches back and forth easily.

Precisely my point, and why Sam comments on her instability. Sam isn't completely in the know about how Jade works. None of the staff are, so from her perspective Jade is the least stable group member.

Nope as I said the Dev-Bra gave Ben the impression its creator was a pervert (most likely female pervert but never the less), not necessarily armored (slightly flame resistant and tougher than standard), the devise properties make it a one size deal, the notification was the current cup size, for practical reasons, after all one cant be expected to have a wardrobe of Devisor clothes, made with changing bodies in mind.
Edit, mostly it was a tool to torture err I mean track Ben's changes, without having to deal with department store issues pertaining to appearances. May do more with it in future iterations and after "hatching", but it was also a "you have divisors who make anything you can think of, so you know THIS exists" partially inspired by Glow's costume,

That happened during the time skip, haven't ironed out the the dates, not sure about the year either, no reason to go day to day at that point, also wanted to make the growth feel faster than it truly was, for perspective reasons, in at that point in time Ben will have just gotten used to the idea he had them in the first place, now being forced to come to the realization that they aren't exactly small either. Also not a whole lot happens between the first time putting the Dev-Bra on and C-cup, in truth I was debating between B and C for that scene but I felt that going straight to C captured the illusion of things going quickly betterMalady wrote: I meant that you talked about the C and A-Cup notifications, but made no note of a B-Cup notification, but then, I'm assuming it happened, you just didn't mention it.

Originally it was cause dragons are cool and I liked the idea of a rather slow and intricate transformation path that gives the mutant a chance to process things a little bit at a time rather than it all being thrown in their face, which happens to be one of the things I look forward to with Danny Franks, though sibling antics also are a sizable factor
Right now though, I need a bigger character pool, and I haven't even decided on the timeline yet, and I don't really have a huge intention of creating a hole cast for what was just an idea in my head that itself has gone through multiple iterations in what I would like to see in a transformation story in general, in small snippets since my love of the book series The Inheritance Cycle began to meld with my love of transformation stories in general. The character pool is especially important for the next chapter on where employing the "shell device" would start. And Betty doesn't even have a last name yet, or a middle name and I may need 2 of those! And if I decide the last name starts with a D than Aaron/Erin may be out of the question as are all A and E middle names! Heck the only reason I chose the name "Ben" was that it rhymes with "Egg", and "Beatrice" or rather the shortened "Betty" doesn't sound too different from "Ben" and I want to keep away from using Cannon students too much because I know I will misinterpret them and their developments will make my best prediction on them glaringly off, I may have good guesses, but I have no way of knowing how any cannon student will respond to different situations, and the more I do so and the more different they become, the more forced they will be. I feel like before I go much further I need a Fanfic character pool that's more than just me, I mean Tekhe from the Bad Ideas might come in as a side character, but this is the most I've developed any character, and its more than I intended to.
And that's basically where I'm at, I can't decide on the year, the names and am in need of a "fan-fiction cabal" and a bunch of other details that WILL stick out like a sore thumb for being missing, aren't there...
As I was rant typing, the names Benjamin Nathan Davidson and Beatrice Natalie Davidson came to mind so thank you... And yes, the fact that BND would be pronounced "bend" if it were a team in RWBY might have helped that along...

Any characters I make, you can take.
You could set the story in some alternate 2006, or perhaps a bit earlier, like 2000, where there isn't a big looming threat, and so you don't have to deal with The Bastard and stuff...
Or, have some alt-continuity where The Bastard is wiped out due to the appearance of some info source that isn't in Canon, like Phoenix Spiritus's Solomon, or some Oracle Devise, or, to use one of my ideas, an Oracle of Delphi Avatar.
You could delay The Bastard by having something happen to the Sierre Madre Mountains, like a Nano-plague or a Zombie Infestation, or something.
Or to use another of my ideas... Something with that Well of Mimir Cult, which, given the Well of Mimir, could give people prophetic powers by drinking it, or if you want to go Odin, by dropping their... right, or left, eye into the Well, for power...

Domoviye: Love Miss Powerful and can't wait to read more about her and her antics. Any more about Rose and how she deals with her mother living in denial would be nice. And that Tink scene with everyone contributing to taking down Mimeo was perfect. Gave me a much needed laugh.

With Mimeo, I've wanted Tink to fight him for a while, but anything that lasted a while just seemed like Mary Sue for Tink, so not going to happen. Then reading the Mimeo thread, it hit me, make her the delivery system for someone else's plan. They couldn't use a robot, he'd just crush it, someone bigger couldn't get close enough, and Mimeo could get away from anyone who isn't a speedster before they grabbed him. And without being carefully positioned, they wouldn't be able to direct the virus to his mouth and nose without being obvious, at which point he breaks the nozzle to the reservoir of virus, or starts beating them to a pulp, gaining a new power. Tink had the right powers, and was odd enough to make him pause on beating her up long enough that there was nothing he could do.
It was perfect.

Mimeo would probably win against Tink. The plan actually counts on it.Dreamer wrote: Domo, you have been a busy little bee. They figure Mimeo will go hyper like Tink does, they'll fight and while Tink goes to sleep at the end, they're hoping Mimeo will also be really tired. With his powers it won't be as bad as Tink's collapse, but even having him significantly tired for 10 or 15 minutes, might be enough to let the power armour catch him.
With Rose, I liked her retaliation to. She's not a shrinking violet even if she's not one to crow about her revenge.

Re-imagining Whateley as a Campaign Comic ... Well, a Campaign Story, anyways.
Main writer's block and Primary Micro-Scene Focus: Character Creation Section.
I was gonna do something like have Chaka be a Min-maxed character with Combat Focus, 'cause Ki Master is so OP so she needs to be min-maxed... I think...But she doesn't have enough things to trade.
So I got weird, and highly likely to be offensive, like having African-American Ancestry, and being Transgender as possible Flaws, and having Int as a Dump Stat... but she's not stupid enough for that to work.
Choco-Horny and Sugar Rush are still not debilitating enough to work...
Best option would be having her, and most of Team Kimba, be a Randomly Rolled Character...

I think you're thinking something else, the most common branch trait of esper is danger sense, what you might be thinking of is Devising, not esper, esper is dangersense, seeing the past or future, knowing the history of an object by touching it, or understanding something on proximity, if someone was a low level esper and their eyes didn't change color or anything, in many cases, they may not ever know, as esper abilities are inherently subtleFuzzyBoots wrote:

One of my favourite stories in Christian mythology (yes there is a mythology) is about a catholic missionary who used a giant iron bell as a 1-handed mace to bash in the heads of infidels. While saying the Lord's Prayer. In priests robes and armour. In the middle of the Amazon rain forest.
My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

Yes and bells are used in religious symbolism around the world. Rosaries are not, there are rosary like neclaces used in some other cultures but they are not rosaries. A rosary has a crucifix hanging down from the 'centre' after 4 beads and then a circle of 40 or so (I don't remember the exact number) beads each of which is equally spaced but of different sizes or engravings.

Since the Hail Mary gives Protestants conniptions, and the Hail Holy Queen right out makes them swear, its not something your likely to see done outside Orthodox Christian groups.

A rosary has, on the 'tail' hanging in the center, the crucifix, a large bead, 3 small beads, and then usually a second large bead, all below a 'medallion' joining the tail to the loop. Then there are 5 sets of 10 small beads around the loop, each set of 10 separated from the next set by a large bead.
There is a very specific prayer sequence for the beads, and then a final prayer at the medallion at the end. With each chanting of the rosary, one meditates upon one of 4 (3 to some ultra-orthodox Catholics) sets of 'mysteries' - each set has 5 mysteries in it, one for each decade - a set of one large and 10 small beads.
Of note is that the rosary beads are also useful for counting the prayers of the Divine Mercy chaplet.

And no, I couldn't describe a Rosary if my life depended on it, my family never had one. There was five in my family (two adults, three children) and we just took turns being the cantor (the Rosary is mostly in multiples of five, so it worked well for us).
(And no, that's not meant to be confusing. "A Rosary" is the set of prayer beads. "The Rosary" is the prayer you say.)

Don't say that to anyone who is Catholic, or orthodox for that matter, they will get pissed at you. Orthodox Christians are a different sect that broke away from the Catholic Church before there was even a notion of Protestant Christianity.

How "fanatical" individuals are about it is kind of a matter more of politics rather then religion. In places where one side or the other were persecuted, they get a bit hung up about it. Most places in the world its not that big a deal.

Phoenix Spiritus wrote: Orthodox and Catholics disagree about the Pope, and that's mostly it. Both groups admit that the core "Christian" teachings are the same, because they date back to the Council of Nicaea in the third century, 12 hundred or so years before the "Schism" over the Pope.
And, at this point, most branches of Catholicism are "in communion" with each other such that they largely have reciprocity among their rituals with some quirks for groups that have more or less restrictive guidelines (for example, the Roman Catholic Church accepts Greek Orthodox weddings, but the Greek Orthodox Church does not feel that the Roman rite is stringent enough). You can't take Holy Communion in another branch, but that's largely because the customs are different enough to risk offense.
Now if you really want trouble, point out to a Baptist that that they're technically a lapsed Catholic... although there too, you get some funny distinctions like how I recently had to convince my wife that "Christian" didn't just refer to the various Protestant branches. And that's nothing compared to when you run into a Baptist who claims that their religion is older because it started with John the Baptist, who was born before Christ. Oy vey...
Main thing that struck me about the story was the the choice of one item to take and one to reject reminded me of Kingdom Hearts. And I have seen "rosary" used as a general term in a number of places, the same way that "bible" has become a general term for "holy book" even in secular contexts. They've become generic trademarks.

FuzzyBoots wrote: Main thing that struck me about the story was the the choice of one item to take and one to reject reminded me of Kingdom Hearts.
Yeah, I'm quite sure that Nocte based it off Kingdom Hearts, as the original ended with:
Alex woke up, wondering what that dream was about. He concluded that he needed to stop playing videogames before going to sleep. He got dressed, had a quick breakfast. He had a gun show to go to. Hopefully, he would find another sword to add to his collection.
EDIT: And now I added that into the Author's Notes.
... Well, no one's complaining... So I might expand on the scene? Nah. Don't got the time. Anyone can co-opt it, perhaps give it to another Tao Servant, but give them the Beads or the Bell... Which'd change the opening scene, as they can only choose one, and have to reject the other, and being the last person means that they're forced into wielding something... ... Unless there's more swords...

For the first one, when asked which name she prefers mortals to use for her, Inanna stated that all of the names people know her by are ones given to her by them, so she doesn't mind if she is known as an Inanna, Ishtar, Astarte or any of the others.
As for the second question, yes, there are definitely aspects of being the mortal representative of a fertility goddess that are problematic for Headmistress Carson; however, she was aware of them when she accepted the role as Paladin, and in fact it was in part to keep someone else from having to deal with them that she accepted the role in the first place.

Of the mess of names below... let me see... Dr. Amazing and Professor Quartermane are both canon, of course. Frank Hardy Jr. might be the son of one of the Hardy Boys. Dr. Germahn might be the fourth-wall-explaining-guy from El Goonish Shive. Dr. Osterman is probably Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen.
There's a whole Wilde family tree there which I assume is a reference to something or a bunch of somethings, but I have no idea what.
And besides the point, seeing Professor Quartermane's name again made me think... at the time Razzle Dazzle was published, I think Bek admitted that he was a homage to Professor Challenger. The wiki mentions also the name as being an Allan Quartermain nod, but I wonder if it is also intended to be an homage to Professor Bernard Quatermass...

Whereas Terrence, Richard and Rose shouldn't really be related to them, since they all come from that other comic book company... and yeah, the trenchcoat comment is a clue. The Wilde family as a whole are canon, being part of the Doc Savage pastiche in 'Razzle Dazzle'.

That depends upon whether Jade is there for new Poe freshman, or comes in at a later date. After that, about 15 minutes, most of which Jade is gushing over the new cute little girl that looks younger than she does.

Yeah, this is a definite issue with luck manglers. It does necessarily even have to cause bad luck for others, but as with Teela Brown , it could simply end up that what is lucky for them isn't necessarily good for anyone else.
But I was thinking more about the fact that Lizzy and Clover are already going to be in the same classes (they'll both be 8th graders that year), which is a risky thing given the way probability warping can run wild when there are two or more manglers in close proximity. Having them on the same team as well would be a recipe for disaster.

She can only go up to full power as of yet. She can do many short bursts of a few seconds at a time, followed by normal energy expenditure, to go longer.
So running from the MCO, she would run normally along the street, turn a corner, power up and jump to a third story balcony, power down and climb onto the roof, jog to the edge, power up again jump across the road, jog, power up, jump, jog, etc, and keep doing it for about thirty minutes, wanting only a good meal and a chance to sit down for a bit.
If she powered up and ran for ten minutes , she'd be halfway across the city before it ended, but she'll be going to bed and not waking up for a while, after eating a huge meal.
It's a very tactical power.

Domoviye wrote: Probably is a girl. She may or may not be appearing in a future story.
Miss Powerful is just a fun little character I came up with. I was thinking of making a series of short little events concerning her adventures. And running around with a car over her head to test out her strength seemed par for the course.
Going through old posts to patch my archives, and I came across Probably again...
I was wrong in thinking there weren't any indications of her girlness... "small girl in broad daylight" ...
So, how far along an event chain can she predict, and how far in the future?
For example, two steps would be:
95% chance he'd punch me. 30% chance for me to escape unhurt. If he punched me, 63% chance someone would help me.
A third step might be the chance that the hypothetical rescuer actually manages to be useful.
- Domoviye
-
As for how far she can predict, consider anything beyond the next minute or so as educated guesses with a bit of luck on her side.
If she somehow foiled a plot by an evil supervillain known for murderizing people successfully, and he knew lots about her, her power would say 90% chance he'd kill her very soon. Good educated guess.

Note that I said "more sense". That doesn't mean that it makes a lot of sense. Just more than a necklace sign. ... I think.
It doesn't seem important enough for Carson or anyone else to make a school announcement over it?
... Hmm... Perhaps someone makes a magical/devised typo-generating aura that allows "I was too close to XXXX" as a valid excuse... Hmm...
No, (Y)uganda isn't immune to her aura, that's why she has scribes, and uses speech-to-text... Although, given Whateley tech levels, speech-to-text is really good, so she doesn't need scribes... ... Unless she was in one of the early Whateley classes, and so could have her audio recorded, but not accurately transcribed?
...Or the scribe duty is a punishment, so it's done even when unneeded, and with something that's not especially time-critical... Not much sense, is there?
No, I came up with the Yuganda-Uganda name wordplay a while ago, like a week or two, and I knew about the SCP Foundation before today. Search the Bad Ideas thread for Cyborg Child if you don't believe me. The idea just put itself together with the typos as a catalyst or something. I think. ... Hey. Do you know your subconscious?
I've got no idea what her power ratings are. ESP maybe. ... Her appearance would be a spoiler. Look at other Cognito/Info-hazard SCPs for hints. Yes, there's a lot. (Y)uganda's 'powers' do have a theme. Anymore hints would make it too easy.
If I settle on giving her planned powers to other characters and leaving (Y)uganda with a typo-aura, I'll reveal her appearance and stuff.
Hmm... Do I have enough for a thread of its own? I don't think so...

And before anyone asks, no, She didn't escape before the 'Lympies did; the Foreigner never caught Her in the first place, as she's actually an Anthropomorphic Archetype rather than a Goddess (Olympian or chthonic) per se. Yep, She's tricksy that way; She managed to catch June when she was particularly pissed with Jason, then connived to make Majestic think that the best way to get even was to make Imperious jealous, and gee, June, here's this younger boy there right in front of you and he's just the sort of skinny geek Jason despises... Though you missed the part about '= Dr. Timothy Leary'.
The song in question was, of course, "The Legend of a Mind", AKA "Timothy Leary's Dead". The timing is a problem - in the real world, Leary died in 1996, which would make von Maas ten at the oldest - but who knows how things went in that world... also, I was assuming that Eris/Loki was jumping from human host to human host before mutants appeared (same as I had for the character of Euterpe), so it may not have been a permanent bond.I was humming along with my iPod, which had cued up an old Moody Blues song about a former self of mine. Alas, poor Timmy, he was a great host: so placid, so intelligent, so inspiring, such a tremendous pain in the arse for the Powers That Be.

I wrote several of these to get an idea of a few new characters and other reasons. Then I thought some of them were really funny, so I posted them. No real big plan at first. Then I got a good idea and ran with it. I can write these out really easy in a few minutes between work, and writing bigger stories as a bit of a breather.
And I'll put out one to three a week, since I'm not ready yet to show the big thing. Don't worry it's going to be really satisfying at the end.
I cannot/will not say how many people are in the Miami Crusaders. That's for far in the future.
