  • Since new material usually gets posted on Monday nights, I figured now would be a good time to reinstate one of the popular threads from the old forum, namely the gambling thread for upcoming stories/updates.

I've taken the liberty of expanding it just slightly though. Where the old thread limited itself to the sweeter variety of baked goods, I'd like to see if our usual participants can submit wagers worthy of Ayla himself. So feel free to get as descriptive as you like, and don't just limit yourself to pastries and cakes. A good pasta or well crafted salad is just as welcome, or whatever you feel like instead. Imagination is key, just remember that Ayla has a very...refined...palate.

    Let the betting begin!

Hey, it doesn't have to be fancy to bet with, or even described well. Whatever you want to submit is perfectly acceptable.

I assure you, Ayla has promised he won't gag, at least not too much. ;)

One Kobe beef hamburger on a fresh baked sourdough bun lightly seasoned with thyme, sea salt, and pepper, with lightly grilled truffles, cordon blue cheese, fresh picked organic tomato slice, and a leaf of escarole lettuce, on a combat final by E.E.

  • A bologna sandwich on something by Morpheus (he has been awfully quiet for too long...)

But not ANY bologna sandwich. The semi-legendary bologna sandwich from the São Paulo Central Market. Guaranteed to delight any non-Ayla gourmet.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Looks like tonight's winner was Sir Lee.

The folks expecting Whisper almost took the prize... and evidently someone's been chatting with E.E. if they know there's a combat final ready to go out the door...

  • E.E. And Elrod have been gloating about for about the last two months, taunting us by just saying it exists until it drove into our souls the thought of what it might be, keeping us awake at night until it was all we could think of during our every waking moment.

and here I was going to bet:
Chicken Kiev [ butterflied breast of chicken wrapped around a pat of garlic butter ( made with minced fresh garlic 24 hours before ) breaded with crumbs from Stoned Wheat Thins crackers [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoned_Wheat_Thins ]], spinach dumplings [ chopped cooked spinach, shredded Monterrey Jack Cheese, then steamed to melt the cheese before serving ], and Fettuccine under an Alfredo Sauce [ garlic butter melted, then whipping cream added and brought to light boil before fresh shredded Parmesan cheese added, stirred gently until melted and the sauce thickened. ] with a sprig of fresh Cilantro on top for the colour contrast [ flavour if the diner wishes to chop it and place over the sauce ] followed by a lime ice to cleanse the palate [ shaved ice and lime juice ] with a dessert of fresh strawberries dipped in melted dark semisweet chocolate, served on a pool of pureed strawberries with a sprig of fresh mint.

    Philistine.

    Have you not studied Ayla?

    Have you not seen?

A chef lives for their food, nurtures, sweats agonises it conception, the very act of its birth, the transformation from mere ingredients to culinary art!

And you? You spit on this dedication with your 'I don't care, send food'

    Meh!

McDonalds for you! You shall suffer the detritus of scum that is fast food, punishment until you become enlightened and see the one true art!

  • I hate doing dishes. And as long as its Wendy's ( a fine culinary delight I assure you) I shall be most happy to oblige as i dine on sea salted fires, perfectly confected meat that when given the proper dosage of sauce including a hint of mayo and ketchup will tingle my tongues tastebuds with its tantalizing nectar of nourishment as it flows slovenly down my throat to be quashed with a healthy dose of carbonated beverages of coke and rootbeer.

I would send you 10 lbs. of baby back ribs if I thought it would get us more Kayda or Charge faster. Or if somehow Kayda's brother came to visit her at school and see one of the Three Little Witches get a crush on him, then let the chaos ensue.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

  • Okay, things have been on a serious note of late, but lets not forget what tonight is. That's right its the night when we do the cookoff on who is posting the next story. And we need to setup an nice set of vittles.

Now I'm going for Morpheus this time and I'm looking at one of the dishes I was served in Germany. Roast pig, with potato balls sauteed with brown gravy with onions. Borchen w/butter as well as green beans with slices of bacon sprinkled throughout. Of course to drink would be the towns local beer, served in a traditional stein.

That is... If I got the dates right.

  • Ya, sorry about the missed release everyone. I'll get something up this evening if I have a chance. I was wrangling a particularly feisty extension into place last night and just got to the point where I couldn't stay awake any longer before I had a chance to prep the content.

No guarantee that it'll be tonight. But I will promise that it will be no later than tomorrow night (Weds).

I bet a doughnut on Golden Angel.

  • By my watch we've got 1 minute until the next story. So I'm putting some Thanksgiving leftovers on something from Bek. Maybe Silver Linings, now that Thanksgiving has passed?

  • Predictions for the month.

Dec 7: Something from EE and Elrod surrounding several of the Combat Finals
    Dec 14: More of CBHD
Dec 21: Golden Angel (Followup to Silver Linings) by Bek
Dec 28: The end of Whisper and a short from Morpheus.

And I bet a fruitcake on the lot.

Well, since last week we've had the final chapter of Charging Buffalo, Hidden Dragon, I'll place a bet on next week being the second chapter of The Big Apple Comes with Calamari. And for my wager... well, since we're in the Big Apple, how about an upside-down apple cake, with banana bread in place of the standard white cake, with a light drizzle of maple syrup and cream cheese frosting - and a light sprinkling of walnuts?

I'll take the long odds for hilarity, by saying that the most hilarious ones are gonna be Ayla or Fey's final, with the most serious one being Chaka's.

  • So now we've got a second G2 story in progress, it's possible the next three weeks will be Odds and Ends, Calamari, Road.
Although having said that, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there's another G1 tale or two in the WIP queue (or even in the auto-publish queue thingy) to make the running order less predictable...

We're going to be getting two Gen2 stories in a row, unless a new Whisper or Imp comes out, so I'm pretty sure the G2 writers are pushing for their characters to finally reach Whateley.
I'll bet a dozen homemade chocolate donuts on it.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

  • I think I currently have enough stuff sitting in the pipeline that I 'could' schedule out through the middle or end of June IF we continue to just alternate weeks with a G1 story and a G2 story. But I 'think' we're going to get back to running weekly G1 releases and doing the G2 releases as a second release on those weeks that we're putting those out. So I 'think' we'll be scaling up to six releases per month shortly.

  • Any former G1 authors returning to the fold will soon find the Canon's been rather busy in their absence :) It may even eventually lead to some of those authors who aren't currently writing but still keeping an eye on events / involved behind the scenes getting inspired (no guarantees, of course, but fingers crossed...)

Added onto which, the arrival of Kayda has allowed the (hole in Chou's tapestry / rise of The Bastard / Nimbus' plans) plot thread to continue in the absence of PoV stories from most of the characters originally involved.

Then there's G2, which has been purposely designed to avoid most of the pitfalls associated with the organisation of G1 that couldn't have been predicted over a decade ago when G1 was being designed (so it won't take a decade to cover six months worth of tales!)

Yeah, we've been busy little beavers. I hope this inspires some as well - I certainly reach out to them when I use one of their characters. I reviewed ideas and material with the owner for anything involving Chou. I did the same with Sara in Kayda's adventures. I did the same with the idea for Wine, Women, and Ayla. I have done the same with another author for Kayda's summer story. I hope they feel inspired to write more.

It's always been the intention that Team Kimba not be vital to the three threads mentioned above, although Chou's tapestry is hard to do without Chou. So while it's fun to work with Heather and write more Chou, I also feel like it's important to the overall big-picture plots.

As to Gen 2, we have plans. Long-range plans, and a lot of detail and organization behind them, specifically because Kristin insisted at the outset that we make those plans, and after writing Gen 1 for a bit, I understood the wisdom of that. While we'll have 'indies' and vignettes, the main story line will be on a precise release schedule, so all 26-30 episodes cover important plot arc points and we can move precisely toward the big ending.

  • Hmm... Given that we've seen two of the three airports that flights are being funneled to, who thinks we'll see the third?

Or do I have my count wrong somewhere...

  • There might be more than three. But at a minimum, one in the West Coast would be a requirement.

However... we don't actually KNOW if there's actually such a policy of funneling all paranormals through a few airports on a permanent basis. We do know that it applies to Caribbean flights around August 28th, but funneling Europe-originated flights through New York on September 5 is just a supposition.

And then there's all the airline logistics/politics to take into account. Like American Airlines being set up to funnel flights from South America through DFW, not MIA, or Delta preferred routing via ATL. Such a requirement would cost millions to the airlines and they would activate their lobbyists immediately.

So it just might be a regional, temporary measure, rather than a national permanent one. Maybe the FBI received intelligence of something bad coming from Karedonia and they are trying to make it harder to slip through... maybe it's even that thing the Courier slipped into AJ's luggage.

Well, Kristin DID say that we'd see an increase in release rates...

Kristin Darken wrote: I think I currently have enough stuff sitting in the pipeline that I 'could' schedule out through the middle or end of June IF we continue to just alternate weeks with a G1 story and a G2 story. But I 'think' we're going to get back to running weekly G1 releases and doing the G2 releases as a second release on those weeks that we're putting those out. So I 'think' we'll be scaling up to six releases per month shortly.

Maybe not 1 and 1 every week but perhaps if they get more moving through the pipeline it could eventually get there...

  • Sooooo I guess G2 is an indicator that everything to do with impending doom (hole in Chou's tapestry / rise of The Bastard / Nimbus' plans) work out somehow and the status-quo is maintained. I'm curious to see how G2 will cover the nine year gap from Spring 2007. We have already seen appearances from Toni and Vanessa. Hopefully we'll get some vignettes to shed light on events throughout those years.

Probably not. The reason I say that is if we write vignettes in the 'in-between years', we'll have to include bits about how these nasties got resolved - and that's a huge spoiler for Gen 1. The large gap is to give the WORLD and Whateley time to recover from whatever happens in Gen 1, so that those items don't overshadow or necessitate spoilers. For all we know, all the cottages were leveled in the gen 1 events and possibly once or twice between, but by the time we get to gen 2, it all looks perfectly normal again.

Gen 2 won't cover anything that relates to what happened between 2007 and 2016 related to Whateley and the gen 1 crises and the characters. Other stuff? Sure. The North Korean mutant defector who saves the pacific fleet from the supervillain King Poseidon in 2013 so the cruiser-skipper can retire and take up an important role in Whateley? - sure. That doesn't touch gen 1. (And no - to the best of my knowledge, that is NOT planned - it's a bit of hyperbole to illustrate my point. But now that I think about it ......)

No not taking that bet, MaLAguA announced on DA a possible short hiatus and has a few other series to juggle, and I expect one of those to be wrapped up before he really delves into WU, I know him, he hates leaving stories off before completion and only has 2 or rarely 3 going at once in the event that writer's block halts one or the other.

To stop the consternation, anything of import I've written is on this site, I just didn't start writing before then, and my writing was all new enough that it transferred to this new forum.

As for stories, I have two canon stories, To Sleep, Perchance to Dream co-writen with Elrod and posted under his name, and now So Shalt Thou Show Me Friendship that was Fan Fic, but has now been moved to Original Canon, and that's posted under my name :)

Other then that there is a host of "Micro Scenes", one complete Fan Fic posted yesterday (and officially never going to be canon) and some incomplete stories. that's it for me :)

  • No bets for today? Let me see... Nalley is still on leave... the third part of "Rabbit's hole" apparently is unfinished... so maybe another part of Bianca's origin story for Gen2?

And, for Gen1... hmmm... something by Bek, I think. She has been too quiet.

OK, I'll put one mozzarela-and-calabresa-sausage-filled pastel on each one.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Hm...

I'll bet some chocolate covered matzah on a new (but possibly familiar) 2007 Fall Freshie from Morpheus, and some matzah ball soup on a brand new origin (maybe Dragonfyre's?) from Gen 2.

You can wager, you just can't win.

    Or as the song went:

You can look at the menu but you just can't eat
You can feel the cushions but you can't have a seat
You can dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim
You can feel the punishment but you can't commit the sin...

  • Cool, believe me I know that more people does not mean faster progress, especially as everyone has to collaborate to avoid creating plot holes and inconsistencies. I have a feeling that the 2 story a week periods will happen in spurts.

  • The ideal would be to release a gen 1 AND a gen 2 story each week, and not release 2 works by the same author (a gen 1 author) in a week, so that causes little hiccups in story release, too. And there are only a few of us working Gen 1, while there are a lot more gen 2. For example, consider that I've got gen 1 parts in work AND I'm working on what looks to be a 5 or 6-part gen 2 story, and since I'm not Morpheus, it takes time to complete them. Same holds for all of us (mostly).

  • There are 6 active G1 authors by my count (Bek, Kirsten, EE, Elrod, Morpheus, and Phoenix), but Kirsten and Bek don't contribute stories regularly, and EE is focused with not dying at the moment, which means that the remain authors would need to write 1 story every 3 weeks to keep us constantly in stories. Meanwhile, there are 13 G2 authors. Even if you exclude all the G1 writers, and maybe 1 or 2 others who don't have regular muses, that's still twice as many authors, which means that on average they have twice as long to write their stories. And it's really closer to three times as long, since I've been excluding participating authors right and left.

Technically I'm working on this a slightly different way at the moment, though I guess not releasing two things with my name on them would still apply.

  • Yeah, once again a big thank you all-around for all the stories - with a consistent weekly release if not more, no less. In a perfect world there would be installments from both generations each week, but as it is right now is still bloody good, so thank you all.

  • So seeing as we're left with some heavy news over in IDTWIKA, now is the perfect time for anything but part 3 of that for at least two weeks I think. I'm sure they like seeing us readers squirm and wait, so unless there's something else in Gen 2 they're looking forward to dumping on our comprehension of the new Whateley and its students...

So Kayda is likely, I think. Still wanting more Imp, though. I venture some rhubarb crumble into the mix.
