Yes, it can be done by a bot. I have a registered instance of AutoWikiBrowser (Wikia/Fandom requires bots be registered as their own users with special permissions, so they are not mistaken for vandals or spammers) and can do such stuff if necessary. I'll look into it.
EDIT: And... done! Did some cleaning up of redirects too (most redirects shouldn't belong to *any* category), also created the "Gen0" page as a subcategory of "Meta". No more category "Gen 2", and category "Gen2" now has 393 items.

First pain is to get a bot account. Regular wiki admins such as me, E.E. and Anvildude are not able to add an account to the bot group; only Fandom admins can do so. You are supposed to set up a separate account for the bot and make a request to the Fandom admins. It has been a few years, so I no longer remember the details -- for instance, I don't remember if the one requesting has to have admin privileges in the first place, or who is the person to be contacted.
Then, you download AutoWikiBrowser (or a similar tool; I understand there are a couple others, including a web-based one, but for the most part people use AWB) and set it up in your machine. That part is pretty easy.
Then, the next pain is to figure out the settings so AWB can log in correctly to the Whateley wiki. That includes setting up a custom wiki (AWB comes pre-configured for Wikipedia and associated sites, other wikis have to be set up manually) and setting up the login.
Finally, the hardest part of it... learning to use AWB. Which is a very powerful tool, so powerful that it can f*ck up the entire wiki if you make a mistake and let it run unattended -- and the documentation is not really geared for the beginner. Since our wiki is not that large as things go, I almost always use it interactively -- It loads the page, highlights the change it's going to make, gives me an opportunity to hand-tweak it a bit if it makes sense, and then I can click "Save" or "Skip". I prefer playing it safe.

That sounds a lot like perl, on any system that can run perl.

Yes. At some point I want to look into undoing some of the redirects to subpages. The redirect for Leanne belonged to a couple of categories, but redirecting to an anchor on Lancer's page also took her out of any listing of Entities.

Which is also in the Gen2 category, a Sub-category of Meta.
Should we leave it that way, or store it in the deepest applicable sub-category, Gen2, only?

Probably reformatting, known appearances, check to see what's been added in her last few appearances. Not much.
Not like Shipwright, whose name and codename have yet to appear in the same story. If it weren't for WOG equating her with Lexi (from "A Tenuous Blade"), I wouldn't have been able to write much more than "Shipwright's a tech-track student."

Yes, that's one situation where adding the redirect page into categories *is* justified.
Long term, Leanne is a character and should eventually have her own page, but right now she hasn't, just a redirect into Lancer's. If we don't put categories on the redirect, it means that she is not listed in the "magical beings" or whatever the appropriate categories would be, and it makes it easier to forget about her existing at all.
Same for family pages. Consider Erica's relatives -- they don't have their pages yet, but still, most of them should be listed as "heroes." So their redirects to the "Abendritter family" page can belong to categories so they are properly listed.
If eventually we decide to expand the redirect into a full page... the categories are already there.
OTOH, I don't think aliases should get categories in most cases, because it adds unnecessarily to the listings. I mean, between her civilian name (which she changed once or twice, by the way) and her various heroic identities, Liz Carson would be listed what, eight times in the "Heroes" category? I don't think so.

Since text can be added to Category pages (See Ohio or Florida ) it's likely to be a good idea to take care of that as we go along. Not too many North Dakota or Maine supers so far.

Cheese seems to be colocating two otherwise separate areas and poking his hand through. If it closed off and left his hand behind in the other location, I'd consider that a teleport.
Regina Lambert: does she choose the body that she relocates to, or is that from a micro-scene? There does seem to be a manifesting effect because there's a new object brought into existence, but it probably isn't that simple. If it weren't for the "no time travel" rule, I'd wonder if she isn't pulling an instance of herself out of her personal timeline. ( She's also my top candidate for Lady Jettatura's agent, but that's just my fan theory. )

Unless we want to split hairs among transporters ('across' + 'carry'), teleporters ('at a distance' + 'carry'), apporters (from Latin apportō: “to bring, to carry”, including summoning and conjuring), and deporters ( carry off, banish, exile) it might be best to use the term most readers would know, or to lump them together as "porters".

Right now, "Franks family" is the only user...
Replacing a family page with just the tree and letting the links take over for all description... Seems a bit too concise?
Silly idea would be using the tree's links to link to sections on the same page, because we have the table of contents for that...

In Bender/Branwen's case, I'm not even sure what her preferences are in the subject. While she is going by Branwen now, "Dr. Bender" is fairly gender-agnostic and it's unclear if she wants to abandon that pen-name entirely.
In Drunkfu/Shia's case, well, the name change appears to have happened after their departure from Whateley. I don't know their motives for the change. It is within the realm of possibility that they want to establish a new pen name dissociated from their older works, and if so, a wholesale change would go contrary to their desires.
Anyway, the role of the wiki is to be a secondary resource, following the practice of the main site. AFAIK, their older works in this site are still listed as "Dr. Bender" and "Drunkfu." Adopting a different naming scheme on the wiki, even if more "updated", might not be helpful.

Briefly, come April 1st (no, it's not an April Fool's joke), there will be a system for contributors to appeal to Fandom about bad wiki admins placing contritors under arbitrary blocks. In order for admins to be able to justify their actions, wikis have to post clear rules for user behavior.

He didn’t know what her powers were, but there was no way he was going to hurt some old bag who couldn’t even walk anymore. That was when she wheeled herself right up to him and she focused on him. And he absorbed her power.
She was some kind of high-end precognitive, even if he hadn’t known what to call it back then. He suddenly saw. He saw way too much. He saw a thousand future paths, all leading from where he was right that second. Every path - every join and twist and turn - crashed through his brain like a sledgehammer. He couldn’t stop seeing. He saw everything from him dead on that street, to him talking to the famous European supervillain Baron Z, to him smashing up half of New York City in an all-out war against superheroes and supervillains and the U.S. Army, and everything in between. He couldn’t take it all in. It just hurt too much! Every image exploded in his head like a hand grenade. Every image blasted him with sight and sound and sometimes smell and maybe even taste, until his senses were utterly overwhelmed. He collapsed to the ground, deaf and blind, in utter agony, and begging someone to make it stop. They’d cuffed him and tied him up with chains off a battleship or something. The chain was too big for even him to break.

An injury that puts an Ex-1 in a wheelchair may not be the permanent injury that a baseline might deal with. It's not going to heal FAST by any means... but unless the BIT changes/adapts to include a wheelchair, they're eventually going to recover. It will take some time, in part because there are two variations to it -- Dark and Light -- and I'll have to test both.
Edit: had a quick look and it might be more involved than merely porting the old theme. The new theme has a number of differences...
- Favicons now can be multi-resolution .ico files going up to 256x256; (currently I put the old lo-res Crystal Hall favicon as a placeholder, but we might want a better one)
- "Wiki logo" of 500x500 maximum (currently I put the Whateley crest as a placeholder)
- Background image has ONE of three modes;
* "Cover" (recommented 2880x656) stays at the top of the screen;
* There are also "tile" and "fit" modes but they don't seem to be working correctly as of yet. Something to try again in a few days...
PNG transparency effects work
I enlarged and did a different crop of the geodesic dome we used in the old theme and put it as "cover" background pic, but I'm not happy with it. If someone can point me to either a LARGE, good-looking geodesic wireframe, or to a vector (preferrably svg) one, I would thank you. One with transparent glass effects would be even better, but I don't think we are likely to find a suitable one for free.
- Sir Lee
-
The TL;DR is that I'm going to need a better, MUCH BIGGER geodesic dome image than the one we used for the previous theme. The one we used was 1000px in diameter, but I'm looking for something over 4000px in diameter. Why that big? Well, that's because I'm only using a *slice* of the top of the image, and might want to discard the "blank" areas on the left and right -- with the final cropped image being 2880px wide. If 4000px turns out to be too big, shrinking images usually works far better than enlarging them. It could be a wireframe-type image (as long as the "wires" aren't TOO thin, to keep them from disappearing when shrunk), or a more fully rendered one with glass effects. Or it could be a vector illustration too (I prefer .svg since I use Inkscape, but I can probably import .eps, .ai and .cdr, maybe even other vector formats, if needed). I'm actually probably ending up with two different images, one for "light" and one for "dark" mode, but I think I can do some image trickery in Gimp to create the two variations from a single source image.
Second thing is a new, better favicon. Nothing actually wrong with the old one, but now that Fandom allows for multi-resolution favicons, no reason not to use the option. I do have a .ico version of the Whateley crest that I *could* use, but the consensus the last time we discussed it was that the wiki favicon should be of the Crystal Hall and leave the crest favicon for the main site if Kristen ever wants to change it from the default. So, any budding artists out there who want to take a stab at it?
Third time is more of a discussion -- should we keep using the Whateley crest as the wiki logo or should we have a different one? Wiki logos are limited to 500x500 pixels, by the way.
How the settings for the new Desktop theme for Fandom work
Text color is not ajustable at all -- it is set by the engine to black or white depending on the background color for that section. The only exception to that is link colors within articles; more on that below.
Text styles are also mostly non-configurable, the only exception being internal article headings -- see below.
Theme settings is organized in three sections: "Community Identity," "Header & Background" and "Article Styles"
"Community Identity" is the only section that does NOT allow separate settings for "light" and "dark" modes, and comprises three parts:
- the name of the wiki ("Whateley Academy Wiki")
- the "comunity logo", limited to a 500x500px graphic (currently the Whateley crest shield on a transparent background)
- A favicon (can be multi-resolution from 16x16px up to 256x256px -- currently the old 16x16 red-and-blue Crystal Hall favicon)
All the settings below (inclusing the background image) can be set separately for "light" and "dark" modes.
"Header & Background" deals with the parts of the site that are *not* in the article frame, and comprises four settings:
- "Background image" (recommended 2880x656px -- yes, that's rather wide, but I suppose they want to support 4K screens. It will be resized rather than cropped on smaller screens). This will show *only* on the top part of the background, and will fade out downwards about where the article frame begins. PNG transparency effects work, so it's possible to do some blending effects. I'm currently using a crop of a geodesic dome wireframe (same I used in the old theme), but the image I have is only of a 1000px diameter sphere, and it doesn't look quite good when enlarged. I'm looking for a larger image or a vector (preferably SVG since I use Inkscape, but I can probably import EPS, AI and CDR if I have to)
- "Backgroudn image style" -- how do you want to use the above image. Say you prefer a tiled pattern, or a small image on the corner, instead of a huge single image -- this is where you set it. Defaul choice is "Cover" which is appropriate for the 2880x656 image. Given that we can't really do an overall tiled pattern, I'm inclined to going for the "Cover" option.
- "Community background color", that is, the overall backdrop to the entire site. The background image (see above) is applied to the top part of this field, by the way.
- "Sticky Nav" background color. that's a navigation toolbar that shows up at the top of the screen if you scroll down enough to hide the standard navigation links at the top of the page.
"Article Styles" deal (mostly) with styling within the article frame.
- "Headings font" offers half a dozen choices, but they ONLY affect the styling of internal article headings, which means that going with something other than the default can result in a somewhat odd contrast with other parts of the wiki.
- "Accent color" appears to affect mostly the bottom user toolbar, which is not actually part of the article, so it seems a bit of an odd choice to put this setting here instead of in the "Header & Background" section. Maybe it affects other stuff that aren't showing up in the test page? Possibly.
- "Link color" is what it says on the tin - color for the clickable links and such.
- "Article background color" is also pretty self-explanatory.

I also am not sure that Chickenhawk is even *alive* in Gen2. But then again, I have been somewhat lax with my Whateley reading, so I could have missed it.
P.S.: No feedback on the new wiki theme? *At all*?
Chickenhawk doesn't seem the type to just live with or just have kids with anyone. He's going all or nothing. (Not saying Karma wasn't an unplanned accident, but there would be a wedding involved at some point.)
I also can't see Imp not adopting Mischief after the marriage, given what she's shown about her thoughts on parenting. This is especially true if they are married before she becomes pregnant with Karma.
I can also Imp doing some really goody mother daughter bonding with Mischief.

I'll take a stab at drawing a higher resolution favicon.
Yeah, I guess it was a bit too stark. I lightened it from 33.3% saturation to 20%, and it might be somewhat easier on the eyes.
I might have to look into moving the dome a bit to the left so it is better centered over the content, but I'm not sure if that is a problem for other screen sizes. Appreciate feedback on people with different sized monitors (mine is a FullHD, 1920x1080px)

And we might want to move the Wiki into that site's Reference Materials...
But for now... We don't have a Medical Professionals category? Or do we want to call it something else?

I had to hunt down the #WA Universe tag to find any of the Reference Materials. It might be a while before I have access to do anything with them. Moving 5,000+ pages over to the new site might eat up leased disk space. And also drive everyone nuts.

Maybe "Health and Allied Services"?

Well, we can work slowly... I'm slightly waiting for the site to stabilize and possibly get more features, before doing huge page migrations. I don't even know what I want Simon DeVille to look like.

That sounds wordier / more syllabic than most of our other categories?
Hmm... Given some of our other categories, Law_Enforcement, Government...
Maybe just "Medicine" as a category?

Anyone against moving DOD to "Department of Defense"? it's only 4 pages...
But we have the "United States Department of Defense" page...
Interesting, only the US ends in "se", all others use "ce"? Still, "Department of Defense (USA)" or something is clear and short?

Because that's the name of the Department.

Let's keep the naming consistent with the real-world USDOD. Likewise, Americans have been using the "Defense" spelling since at least 1787.

If we are talking about moving the content to another MediaWiki installation, it's supposed to be possible to do semi-automatically, as in exporting the database from Fandom and importing it there. If we are talking about changing to a different format, it's A. LOT. MORE. WORK.

Yep! I'm just thinking about it just a little.

Hmm... Should we stick the Real World header on most city pages, or something?
See here: crystalhall.fandom.com/wiki/Federal_Bureau_of_Investigation
I feel we should do something special for places that are tiny but from the Real World, like
crystalhall.fandom.com/wiki/Berlin#St._B...bas_Episcopal_Church
...
duckduckgo.com/?q=St.+Barnabas+Episcopal...48208022&iaxm=places
Or most places from the Inaba series.
