  • Even if it does not go into Mythos territory, it might still be an interesting read. "Harry Potter Love Craft." I wonder how Sex Ed in Hogwarts goes?
    Topics:
    - How to use Transfiguration to enhance your love life.
    - Potions to keep you going and going and going.
    - Sex under Wingardium Leviosa: rewarding, but dangerous.
    - Long-distance sex via Patronus
    - The dangers of buying bootleg Polyjuice Potion allegedly patterned after Playwitch centerfolds

...come to think of it... Luna might be REALLY good in the sack. As in "Love... Good."

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Makes sense. Longhand is a lot simpler than typing since it only requires simple movements from a few fingers and your arm, mostly all working together. Typing is more like playing a piano since all eight fingers and both thumbs are involved independently, and with relatively tight timing. It's pretty impressive for something that we basically treat as a mundane skill that everybody is expected to do.

Meh, you can hunt and peck. I don't quite do that but it is close. Use about four fingers generally. Though I can, somewhat, touch type...

  • Yeah, multi-finger pecking is what I did up until high school. Converting to touch-typing was a painful three months (literally; damned cramps), but so worth it given how much writing I do nowadays. Plus it's super nice to be able to decouple my eyes from the typing so that I can keep going while looking at reference material or equations or whatever. Hunting and pecking would make programming pretty painful.

  • What I do is a modified touch. That is that I actually don't put my hands on the keyboard to type but sort of hover them over the home keys and then move them about a little so as to hit the keys I'm trying to hit. I don't type quickly or accurately but I do get it done!

  • And now the team that everyone on campus fears above all!
What is interesting is that if you look at TK they are a team of heavy hitters, none of them is particularly weak. Indeed, there is Hank who is a tank or brick, and Ayla another brick, then Chaka, who while she isn't a brick she is probably the best martial artist on campus, indeed if I were to make a guess if Ares would get over himself he'd know he was either there to teach her of learn from her, probably a little of both. Then there is Billy, another flying brick and probably some fragment of the Star Stalker, who knows just what she can do, but she may well be the most dangerous member of the team, though that is questionable. After Billy you have Jade, now to the outsider Jade seems to be the odd girl out among all the bricks on the team, but really she is possibly more dangerous than Billy as far as the amount of damage she can inflict and take. Then you have the premier spell slinger possibly the most powerful of wizards or sorceresses born in the last thousand years. Now Circe is older, and has had time to learn the absolute limits of her power and gain all sorts of dirty tricks she knows how to do... but for sheer access to power Niki is probably the more powerful, and when she was channeling Aung, she was unbelievably like a force of nature...
So a team featuring Jade and team Awesome? Scary scary stuff!!

On TK there is also the fact that Ayla is a brick that uses lots of high end holdouts

  • An idea that's not only bad, but impossible because some characters are Gen1 and some are Gen2...

    Combat team: Disney Princesses
Membership (after Jade somehow brainwashes people into changing their codenames and going for this):
    - Glyph, aka "Snow White"
    - Cinderella
    - Tink, aka "Tinkerbell" (hey, she WAS a member of the official Princess lineup, for a short while)
    - Sylene, aka "Ariel"
    - Jadis Diabolik, aka "Belle"
    - Kayda Franks, aka "Pocahontas"
    - Chou Lee, aka "Mulan"
    - Rapunzel
    - Elaine Nalley, aka "Merida"
    (ordered by movie release year)

(Still thinking about who could be Aurora, Jasmine and Tiana...)

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

This is why the hamster cage and the Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Demodulator should be clearly and obviously labelled when working in the teleportation laboratory.

How the hamster mind is coping with toggling between the kid bodies as the kids take turns driving the hamster body could make for some interesting reading.

Try a Star Trek type transporter accident. I'm doing something with it, but I'm taking it in a completely different direction.

And when you think about it, transporting people by disassembling them and reassembling them AT DISTANCE, is one of the DUMBEST ideas I've ever heard!

Attempting to recreate the fury twins ability's might also be a possibility. I don't know what good doing something like that would be or what anyone would be trying to blend together but it would be interesting. Maybe trying to make a cyborg hamster. Or a Eggman bot.

They might prank Phase, if they thought that he would take it in good humor. But I don't see them making a huge habit of that. Now Nephandus? Oh yeah, I can see them getting down right serious about annoying him. Any bully that makes it past Team Awesome... Well, this year the bully busters are a totally different set aren't they?

Done that already, not me but someone else published Dance of the Suzie Q Fairy which addresses that concept! Wait 'til I get done with poor ol' Speakeasy, He's about to lose his mind, and he has gained already a large member and gonads, what else do you suppose Gothmag might add or subtract from him? I hadn't considered that! Hmm some of you definitely have ideas that Gothmag might consider. He, or at least a splinter is investigating the tunnels at Whateley as a cat... Wonders if he ever impersonated Basomath (not sure of Egyptian cat goddess name spelling) or other cat gods(esses)

  • I'm just sad that we didn't get a Gen 2 Bugs meets Tia story for Easter. One with lots of "squeeeeeee! cute!", "I gotta tell the rest of the old Wondercute gang about you", and plenty of exploding egg holdouts for Tia... and maybe a ray gun of some sort that looks like a carrot.

  • -face palm- I need to just stop watching tv when I have Practical, my story's devisor, on my mind. her name comes from practical effect/stunt meaning a movie effect they do for real, not cgi. most of her stuff is copyright infringement material, and now she wants to play in the chem lab and make tmnt stye (or a close fatimally) ooze.

Anyway Twilight Sparkle (pony form) + Twilight (Equestria girl form) + Hyena (cyborg form) = Nightmare time...

  • Maybe the Alcoholyte does not so much create alcohol, but rather lead people to it. Like a psychic power that makes people crave for a drink. She could enter a Temperance League meet with a few jugs of moonshine and people would line up (and fight each other) for a glass of the stuff.

Better idea might be to unlock the essence of the alcohol letting it fully work even on regens and the like. Magic booze for the win.

Have a look at Erfworld, http://erfworld.com/ and one of the ways that they were making Golems from every available raw material. Saying any more would lead to spoiling some of the surprises. :D

( Some seriously funny and well-written world building in there. Well worth an archive trawl. It's also worth re-reading, once you have a handle on how the magic system works, as there is a ton of comments and jokes that will only become clearer the second time round. Very very chewy...)

  • The code itself doesn't have to be that complicated, the comics would be separated into groups, you would add or subtract the issue numbers of a group depending on orientation and convert it into its associated character in computer text.

  • Exceedingly bad idea: Esper + Warper who can see past the fourth wall and manipulate it.

Basically a version of Deadpool. Should never be allowed in, or anywhere near, canon.

[EDIT] According to TVTropes, Sun Wu Kong did this once.

    1. Cherami Leigh's character is not a lizard! She's a chameleon.
    2. I didn't even remember All That Matters . After reading the lyrics, my first thought was "That isn't cryptic at all."
    3. The Volume 5 Soundtrack still isn't released.

It was also played just after the fight when they had the team reunion, and that scene focused a bit more on Blake and Yang, my personal rule with RWBY music, is to not use it for direct theory crafting unless its actually used in the show. though the intrumental for the second 2 lyrics of RLR1 was in "True Colors" said lyrics are the original BB support.

  • I don't think we have a single mermaid at Whateley. The closest we've gotten has been Reinforce when pushed into the swimming pool. If they're not a shapeshifter, they'd definitely need a wheelchair. There's also the question of whether or not they can breath air. Usually they do for convenience, but Foob can't so Whateley can accommodate.

  • Well, we have Mezzo , who had a Mermaid form, but unless you're ModeLocked, why would a shifter choose to be a mermaid when you can walk around?

Ah. It might run into the "Why are you at Whateley" issue. What can a Mermaid be offered at Whateley, that can't be anywhere else, or preferred over anywhere else?

Thank you. I wasn't aware of her. I recognize the name Jana from Jade's stories, but didn't look into her more.

[EDIT] There is canonically the Court of the East which supposedly includes merfolk, it's just that we haven't met anyone connected to it yet. So far, we've mostly met the Sidhe of the west, and Anomaly who's tied to the center court.
I think there was a microscene at one point with a mermaid, but I don't know what became of it.

Insane Hiker's Faolan-verse stories have Bea Carson, Rose of the East. They have an interesting take on why one doesn't see many reps from the Eastern Court: Father Dagon and Mother Hydra corrupted them.

This microscene is explicitly based on the Eastern Court and end-of-days Atlantis, but the character isn't/wasn't a merman in the usual sense. Picture something more like one of the merrow-born than these people:

Or, not. The element of Water traditionally lends itself to illusions and hallucinations.

  • There IS a canonical mermaid at Whateley in Gen1. She's called Sylene .

As for Jana, yeah, her original non-human form was a mermaid, and she still can change into one if she wants to... but the situations where it becomes a favourable form are far from common in Whateley. (I should have another chapter of her origin story out Any Century Now). I suppose that she used it to get out of the swimming requirement (not that she couldn't swim like nobody's business before, being an avid surfer and all -- but centaurs are not built for swimming). And she might use it for body-surfing and stuff while on vacations, since the options for balancing on a surfboard aren't very good either.

They are wonderfully friendly creatures. :D

One method would be for Imp to organise this, or Shine could act as a back-door supplier to the Blue Squirrel, with Imp acting as broker.

Alternatively, Shine could have a "Testing Lounge", where he gets exemplars to try out different new recipes. Charge for membership of the testing crew, and the drinks are free.

This would also allow him to classify the drinks as "Experimental prototypes", in the same way that Mal, and the Workshop Crew are able to carry the weapons that they do.

(Mal would have shared that legal loophole with ALL of the workshop, as part of the mutual self-defence pact that they have, like the Worn Wrench.)

As the drinks that are served in the Testing Lounge are "prototypes" undergoing "testing", they would not be covered by the BATC regulations, as they aren't officially on sale.

Taking some of them on to full sales, would only confirm this, so there would be incentive for the testers to give comprehensive feedback, which in turn, would extensive testing... :D

    Caveats:

    - I'm from the UK, so i only know about the UK's approach towards this. Any errors are due to my lack of knowledge of the USA's laws'n'regs, Comment and clarification would be useful.

    - The UK tends towards a more pragmatic approach towards alcohol, though nowhere near France's level. This might be because we exported all of the prohibitionist lunatics to the USA in the late 1600's.

Sorry, but we don;t want them back. :)

Huh. I shouldn't be too surprised she did Asuna. I only watched the abridged version and now I'm sad it doesn't have her.

Correct. I have been watching SAO: Alternative though and have been considering watching a bit of the GGO part just to see Kirito with long hair. Would you recommend watching the original? I have heard many negative comments about it.

Show me any thing that doesn't have negative comments about it. You might not find it the most original anime ever but it is fun to watch... some arks are more fun to watch than others. Dragonball still has many detractors but it is still a fantastically popular anime. Remember to get all those negative comments it would have to be at lest good enough for them to have watched it in the first place.

8th MS Team is really good. More of a tactical Gundam anime, with a Romeo/Juliet vibe. Also G Gundam is a guilty pleasure of mine if you can find a stream with good quality.

I believe you have to refer to everyone in a scene with their entire full name, middle initial included, every time you refer to them, and never use pronouns, to be a proper Gundam 00 reference.

I will say, I watched the whole thing, but did not care for it.

  • I disagree. Mars is a cool place, but it pales in comparison to Earth. Life makes Earth vibrant and dynamic. Come back after a few million years and you have a completely different set of organisms to admire. And now that we've got humans, there are so many cool creations to look at as well. Bridges, pasta, dresses, CPUs... Life is messy, but it also produces omelets. QED.

Well, if you do that, just remember to bring plenty of Slim Whitman recordings. You can burn the rest of Earth culture in a big bonfire beside one of the canals (or at least all the bureaucratic records of it), but that music is important for proper defense. A few big honking swords might help when the green ones show up, too.

I'll take a stab at answering the obvious question before you have to ask, thus precluding the feared possibility.

Yes, the male sidhe anatomy is a four-lobed organ with a very distinctive left-handed helix, and the tip is shaped very much like a toadstool mushroom. Due to the blood flow, alternate lobes appear reddish then quite pale, and repeating.

Q - how many ducks would you have to line up to make an improvised aircraft carrier?

The Lightning pictured is most likely an F or G model. It does not have the dropped chins under the props for the turbocharger intercoolers. Before the J models, the intercoolers for the turbochargers were ducting inside the leading edges of the wings, which cause significant issues at combat power rating. This was rectified in the J and later models.

(And yes, I am a huge fan of the Lightning.)

Huh looks like some of the Chozo still live. Unless this is the way distant past. In that case evolving on a planet with dragons on it would make a lot of since for that species.

  • Already have read all the books. God, paolini has been lax on writing anything else. They need to get a f**king move on!!! I know that they kinda ripped large amounts of their story straight out of Star Wars, but Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr & Inheritance helped me write a D&D campaign, which was successful enough to spawn three other campaigns set in the same world. Speaking of RPG's, I'm going to try and get back on the RPG project. I was reading through all the old threads on the Quad, and noticed a trend of people constantly trying to start a RPG project, but failing. This has given me the determination to get the project running again. If any of the other project members are interested, I've got a series of free ebooks that I acquired from amazon that talk about RPG design. I'd be willing to put them in a mega depository and send them to you. I'm also going to remind people that applications to the RPG project are now open again for application.

Hmmn, it occurs to me that I never considered having my micro-scenes character Learned (Nasir bin Abdullah, paladin of Thoth) look like an Ibisoid. Might not be a bad idea. I mean, the only things I mentioned about him (in passing, since he wasn't in the micro itself , and I mostly discussed him in the comments ) was that he was a) an annoying brat (according to the paladin of Saravati, anyway), and b) he had to flee to the US when he manifested, and is now living with a foster family in Cairo, Illinois (ooh, irony-not-irony...).

Hmmn, good idea, I should have thought of that. Also, Miyet is right across the river in St Louis... but I doubt she'd be quite so, ah, amorous as the Bast which Shadow met.

(Well, not right across, the two cities aren't even close to each other IIRC (Edit: I checked, it over 170 miles apart, so not close at all), but you know what I mean.)

You do realize, that keeping with Illinois tradition. Cairo, IL is not pronounced the way Cairo Egypt is.

  • I also enjoyed the Inheritance Cycle. There were a lot of stupid or clumsy bits, but it was fun anyway, and I especially liked the occasional Saphira POV chapters.

But since this is the bad ideas thread: Magically giving yourself huge calluses on your knuckles in the belief that this will let you use your superhuman strength to punch through steel without mangling your hand like you did last time.

Oh, yes, I am familiar with that; if nothing else, American Gods points out the "Kay-Roh' pronunciation, but I had heard about it elsewhere as well, though I don't recall where - one of the Turtledove Worldwar or Timeline-191 books, perhaps?

I also liked how Eragon was far from infallible. Some parts were a little clunky but that speaks to the author's experience at the time

Jericho would have provided something much more...outlandish than that outfit.

You would think that would be the case - right up to the point where you're ready to walk in and put some earnest money down, cash on the barrelhead so to speak, only to find out that their stock in trade is framing interpersonal narrative of the existential according to a dialectic approach.

  • Remember the Water Park that's also a front for a Supervillain R&R site.

It had to be a functioning enterprise in and of itself.

In order not to be suspicious, the front has to be an almost-completely above-board business.

(I say almost, so as to allow for the small understandable errors that stop the Tax Office Inspectors from being suspicious.)

  • There is a reason so many Mob fronts are restaurants.

One the food is always great and for the most part the mobsters treat the restaurants as neutral ground. Maybe its a hold over from Sicily? :???

  • Also: they are places where it's entirely normal for pretty much anyone to visit occasionally, sit for long periods and talk among themselves and with the servers, they receive regular shipments from a variety of suppliers (opportunities for contraband), there's a tradition of hiring people who don't have their papers all in order (so a good place to stash people on the lam), and there used to be quite a lot of informality in bookkeeping, so opportunities for money laundering.

  • I've mentioned Generator learning magic before (she does want to be a magical girl), but something that could go very badly is her being able to channel magic power through the demon mark. I mean, she didn't sell her soul for anything specific, but instead pledged her whole self to the Star Stalker. I find it unlikely that a simple Regen 5 is all it offers when she's not in hell.

Bonus points for channeling it into a massive laser that she fires from her Raising Heart. Excelion... BUSTA!!!
More bonus points if her eyes change color to match her name (and Tennyo's eyes when at full power) and that it requires that she pray to her roomate to access.

I do just want to see Jade pray to Oneesama.

Insanity: for when normal just isn't interesting enough.

  • The land between the waking and the sleeping is where magic happens.

Today, my semi-conscious came up with the idea for someone whose body is largely composed of candy and is completely edible. Naturally she'd have a high level of regen and high pain tolerance to complement having limbs ripped off. She'd also have to be a wondercute member. She'd also probably have lower durability than a baseline due to having a far more brittle skeleton (if she even has one). My initial thought is that it would be a type of warper trait like Puppet, but I'm not entirely sure.

If anyone wants to try writing this bizarre character that borders on cannibalism, go right ahead.

Also as a Regen, they would have to watch their diet...

And yes, I actually unlocked this particular Achievement this past week, entirely by accident. It was a weird experience; I'm still not sure why I suddenly decided to do some coding after a few beers, but somehow, it really worked. Mind you, I am pretty sure my BAC was well below 0.1337% - that's pretty seriously hammered - but I guess it was just enough to get relaxed and stop overthinking the problem... and no, I am not going to start experimenting with that, I have enough health problems already thank you very much.
